Reference game to establish meaningful game time is the competitive inter county game immediately prior to the club competitive fixture.
Glencar/Manorhamilton – Motion referred to CCC Liatroma for consideration while formulating 2025 League Regulations for approval at later time of the year.
Motion 8
Glencar Manorhamilton GAA is currently the only club that has adult hurling teams. We encourage and promote the playing of both codes and have a number of dual players. Due to this, we are disproportionately negatively impacted in regards access to/ availability of inter county panellists to our teams. We are seeking where Glencar Manorhamilton GAA inter county panellists do not get meaningful game time (20 minutes) they are made available to the club.
Glencar/Manorhamilton – Motion referred to CCC Liatroma for consideration while formulating 2025 League Regulations for approval at a later time of the year.
Motion 9
Start Date of Competitions: The date of competition in Leitrim club football is to be dictated by when the winners of the senior/intermediate championship are out in the Connacht club championship. Example: Leitrim Champions V Roscommon Champions 17/10/2024, Leitrim Senior Championship final 3 weeks earlier 27/10/2024, Then all fixtures are worked back from the 27/10/2024. This would hopefully give the Leitrim teams a more competitive edge when it comes to the Connacht Club Championship.
Glencar/Manorhamilton – Motion to be considered by CCC Liatroma in devising 2025 Club Championship Master Fixture Plan.
Motion 10
Senior Championship Restructure: Two Groups of 4, each team plays each team in their group once. The top team in each group straight into the semi-finals. The team placed in second place in each group plays teams played in third place in each group in the quarter finals. The bottom teams in each group play in a relegation final. Teams should be seeded, with the previous year’s finalists and losing semi-finalists to be drawn into opposite groups at each relevant stage of the draw. Remaining four teams to be drawn to complete the groups by open draw. The benefits of this we believe are: Fairness and Balance: Seeding teams based on previous performance ensures balanced competition, preventing stronger teams from being clustered in one group. Increased Competitiveness: With each team playing every other team in their group, every match counts, maintaining high stakes throughout the group stage. Clear Path to Finals: The structure provides a straightforward progression to the semi-finals and finals, making it easier for teams to prepare.

“Reaching out to our relatives, friends and neighbours” – important proposal from Leitrim GAA Health and Wellbeing/Healthy Clubs
Health and WellbeingLeitrim GAA Health and Wellbeing/Healthy Clubs
“ Reaching out to our relatives, friends and neighbours”
Right now in the aftermath of such a destructive storm is a good time for us to support those who normally support us.
Proposal to our players.
1. Would each of us or any of us be willing to volunteer to help out and look out for someone they already know ?
2. Someone we already know – could be a relative/neighbour
or a friend who is finding these times challenging.
3. This would involve making contact by phone or text or just dropping in to say hello especially after dark and maybe phoning ahead if that’s possible.
Benefits :
1. Would ensure safety and sociability for many.
2. A vital outlet for each to talk and feel valued. This could be a good time to chat about “The New Rules”!!!
3. Helps alleviate loneliness for the housebound and ensure they are warm and have vital supplies.
Our community loves to share with our younger people. Under normal circumstances these people are our best supporters and this is a good time for us in the GAA to pay them back by Playing our part.
We have no doubt that people, especially our older generation would value interaction and contact with yourselves.
Thank you for considering this message.
Take care.

New Rules – An Overview Of The Key Football Rule Enhancements
County FootballLeitrim & Laois take to the field at 2:30pm on Saturday and will have the honour of being the first official game under Gaelic football’s new rules !
Here is a synopsis of the key rule enhancements:
Instead of two midfielders from each team contesting the throw in – each half will be restarted when the referee throws in the ball between one player from each team. The other two midfielders will stand on opposite sidelines on the halfway line and swap sides at half-time. It is hoped this stops the persistent fouling that happens at throw-ins.
After a score or a wide, a kickout to restart the game does not need all of the players to be outside the 20-metre line before it is kicked. Players must still be 13m from the kickout, and it is hoped that this will speed up the game. Kickouts must travel beyond the new 40m arc for the team taking the kickout. If not, it is a free against that team from the place of the foul. The other team can intercept the ball inside the 40m arc. The hope is that this creates more high fielding and contests for possession.
To encourage teams to move the ball forward, a player may only pass the ball back to his goalkeeper if they are both inside the large rectangle of their own goal and the ball was played into the large rectangle by an opposing player. There are no passing restrictions if the goalkeeper crosses the halfway line in support of an attack.
Pitches will be lined with a new arc starting on the 20m line and extending 40m out from goal. A ball cleanly kicked from play or a free over the bar from on or outside this arc, and without touching another player on either team (it may bounce over) is worth two points. Referees will signal the score with two hands in the air and the score umpires will wave an orange flag for the two-point score. The score is allowed as long as the standing foot of the kicker is placed on or before the 40m arc. A ‘45’ is worth one-point.
Teams must always keep a minimum of 3 outfield players in each half of the pitch. The goalkeeper is not an ‘outfield player’ and does not count as one of these 3 players. This means a maximum of 11 outfield players can only defend in their half of the pitch and a maximum of 11 outfield players can attack in the opposition half.
If a player crosses the halfway line in the act of carrying, receiving or intercepting the ball and leaves less than 3 up in the opposition half, the penalty is a free kick to the opposition on the point where the player crossed the halfway line.
If a defending team withdraws too many players back and fail to keep 3 up in the opposition half the penalty will be a free kick on the offending team’s 20m line.
If an attacking team commits too many players forward and fail to keep 3 back in their own half, the penalty will be a free kick on the offending team’s 20m line. The team who have been awarded the free kick have the option to bring the ball out to the 40m arc to attempt a two point score.
A team that has a player ordered of the field will not be disadvantaged by still having to play 3 v 3. They can amend the number of players so they will always have 11 players defending in their half of the pitch (provided they don’t get more than 3 players sent off!). Similarly, if a team has a player of the field for treatment, they can adjust the number of players required and will not be disadvantaged by having to keep 3 v 3.
Previously, a player could not take a free without the referee’s permission. Now however, a player who is fouled can solo (Toe-Tap) immediately, within 4m of where the foul occurred, and continue to attack. If they solo & go they cannot be challenged for 4m. A solo & go is not permitted inside the opponent’s 20m line. Any player can avail of the solo & go, it is not confined to the player who was fouled. However, the solo & go must be done instantly and in either a forwards or sideways direction.
The previous advanced mark is removed and replaced by a new rule. The new advanced mark is allowed when a player catches the ball cleanly on or inside the opposition 20m line from a kick in play or from a kick-out mark delivered on or before the 45m line. The player catching the ball can call a mark for a free kick or can opt to play on. If playing on they may be tackled immediately. If no advantage accrues, they can come back to a kick from the point of the catch. There is no time limit to the advantage. To deliberately pull down a player to deny a goal scoring chance remains a black card offence and concession of a penalty.
DISCIPLINE
The penalty for tactical fouling for the purpose of deliberately delaying or impeding play results in the ball being moved forward 50m. If this results in the ball being moved inside the 40m arc, a Team can opt to take their free from the arc to try and score two points.

Handball News: She’s Ace – 2nd Level Schools Finals – Ballinamore TY
HandballSophie shows She’s Ace in Clare finals.
Well done to Fenagh’s Sophie Kane who reached the semi-final in the 13 and under category of the She’s Ace Handball Festival last weekend
This annual ladies 4-wall championship took place in Clare over two days, and featured top female players from elite level through to the best in juvenile grades from u11 to u17.
In a packed category, with over 50 players vying for success, Sophie played some unbelievably brilliant 4-wall handball on her path to the semi-final. To reach the last 4 is even more remarkable considering that she still has another year left playing in this age group.
Although a final appearance alluded her this year, there is no doubt that Sophie will carry a favourites tag into next year’s competition.
Maith thú Sophie.
Leitrim 2nd Level Schools Finals round up.
Competitive post-primary schools Handball is experiencing a resurgence this year, with the Connacht 2nd level schools 4-wall handball championship returning to the 2025 event calendar. Following a highly competitive county 2nd level championship playoff in Fenagh last week, Leitrim sends seven top juvenile players to represent their schools at the Connacht Finals hosted in Galway venues on Sunday next, January 26th.
Mohill Community College leads the way with four players in the finals. Peter Cox will compete in the Junior (u15) boys singles grade, while Maxim Gilmartin will take part in the 1st year boys singles event. Additionally, Adam Neary and Eoghan Kelly will team up for the 1st year boys doubles competition.
Ballinamore Community School will have Sophie Kane in the 1st year girls singles, and she will also be joined by Ella Crinnigan who will compete in the junior (u15) girls singles. St Clare’s Comprehensive School Manorhamilton will be represented by Cormac Scarff in the Intermediate (U17) boys single competition.
Best of luck to all the players next weekend. Beir Bua!
Ballinamore transition year students try handball.
A big well done to all the transition year students in Ballinamore Community school who had the opportunity to try handball last Friday as part of the GAA Future Leaders Programme.
Clare Conway, the GAA Handball regional development officer for Leitrim, delivered an engaging presentation to the class and demonstrated a variety of simple drills, highlighting the numerous fitness benefits of this fast-paced, skillful, highly entertaining, and fully inclusive sport. She also explained how easy it is to get started— all you need is a ball and a wall.
If you’re a teacher interested in hosting a similar event at your school, or if you’d like to learn more about the benefits of GAA Handball, there will be in-service teacher training in Leitrim later this month. For more information, reach out to Leitrim Handball via their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LeitrimHandball) or contact your local club in Annaduff, Fenagh, Drumshanbo, or Manorhamilton.
