All-Ireland Scór na nÓg Finals 2016
The All-Ireland Scór na nÓg Finals took place last Saturday 30th January in the INEC Killarney. St Marys Kiltoghert represented Connacht, the first to the stage in the very tough Ballad group competition. The 5 Carrick girls gave a thoroughly fabulous performance and sang their hearts out but lost out to Ulsters Tyrone.
In Question Time, Leitrim was represented earlier in the day by Fenagh, St Caillains . Tough but fair questions put to the teams this year by quizmaster Seamus Curley and at round 10- Kerry took the title once again. With the new procedures for the quiz since 2014, it is now a table quiz style competition with all 32 counties qualifying to take part, the top 3 teams received medals.
Connachthrough home two titles, one in recitation & Aughamore of Mayo for Set Dancing, a repeat win on last years title.
2016 brought a new judging forum to the All-Ireland finals. Competitions were judged by one single judge for each competition on Saturday. The implementation by the National Scór committee was met with mixed reactions from the countys across the country in Killarney. While each Judge was selected and elected to the judging panel as proficient and qualified /specialised in their given category, it will take some time to settle into for the audience and countys alike.
Irish TV were also in Citywest to record the days proceedings. A special documentary series from All-Ireland GAA Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir Finals will be broadcast bringing our cultural highlights to a global audience. The first of the three Scór na nÓg series will air on IRISH TV on Sky191, Freesat 400, all free to air boxes or Eircoms eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie on Sunday February 28th at 8.30pm.
