Ballinamore Sean O Heslin’s GAA Club Notes 24/10/2017

County Champions It was another mighty day for the club on Sunday as we were crowned the Pyramid Book Makers Junior A Champions, 20 years after our last win in the competition it was highly enjoyable to sit in the stands with a number of players from that team and watch this young team with a few old heads be crowned County Champions. Special thanks as ever must go to the players, management team and of course their families who have helped the club claim this very important title. There was a large crowd in attendance at the game with young and old filling the stands hoping for a great game, and a great match we got.

The Ballinamore lads started the game well with Luke Murphy and Steven McTague knocking over a couple of points before Manor added one of their own. It was nip and tuck with Manor drawing level before Luke again with a free saw us regain the lead only for Manor to keep pegging us back. Steven Mctague scored another impressive point to take the lead with Mark McCrory adding another to leave Ballinamore winning by 2. Next up was Barry McGovern who scored an excellent goal followed by a Manor point two further frees from Luke and a great Ryan Gavin point to leave the scores Ballinamore 1:08 to 0:04 and in control. Manor were then awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Dennis only for the referee to order a retake which was scored, this proved to be the final score of the half and we went in leading by 4.

Manor started the second half well scoring 5 points to our one free to level the match, what followed was an excellent save by Dennis to what looked like a certain goal before Mark McCrory scored a late free to put Ballinamore back in the lead and Ronan O’Rourke point claimed an excellent victory.

With the final whistle, all that was left was to celebrate a great victory, with the players congratulated on the pitch by young and old and followed up with a victory parade through the town.

Well done to Luke Murphy who was named the man of the match There are some excellent videos, pictures and comments on our Facebook page for any of you that may have missed it live if you want to take a look !!
