Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club Notes 10/10/2017

Senior County Final
Heartbreak for our seniors at the weekend. Everything was in place in the run-up to the big game. Excitement was at a high, the town was a sea of saffron and royal blue, well thought out signs raised the spirits, good luck messages were pouring in from near and far, an Eoghan McLoughlin RAP had us all buzzing and the team was ready for action. All looked good, we were ahead at halftime but there was a lot of football still to be played. However, in the final quarter, the momentum swung towards Mohill and we must salute them as deserving winners. A big word of thanks to all our players and everyone involved with the team especially Aidan Rooney and Sean Boylan, not just for Sunday but for all their contributions during the year. We enjoyed many a great day out – and we will again. The club would like to congratulate the Aughnasheelin Club on their Intermediate victory and we will look forward to clashing with them in next year’s Senior championship. Both games had plenty of excitement, twists and turns and were thoroughly enjoyed by the large contingent of spectators. A word of praise for referees Gareth Foley and Brendan Sammon whose performances added much to the occasion.

Junior B Championship Final
Although we were gutted for our Kerrigan Quarries sponsored Junior B team who lost their championship final last Saturday evening we were so proud of this bunch of players who gave it their all. The team had wonderful support in Kiltubrid with a bumper attendance enjoying a nail-biting final that was decided by the last kick of the game with Mohill winning by a point. A word of thanks to Dermot McMorrow, John Sheridan and Sean Watters for guiding the lads all season.

U15 Shield Final
Our U15s finished their season on a high by winning the 15aside Shield title against Dromahair on Saturday in a very entertaining game of football played in Glencar Community Park. Team captain Nathan McMorrow was delighted to accept the trophy on behalf of his teammates from Gerry Gallogly, Chairman Liatroma Coiste na nÓg.

Hurling
A huge weekend for our hurlers as they take on Carrick Hurling in the Leitrim Championship Final on Saturday at 3pm in Páirc Seán. We wish Terry and the team all the best in their bid to win back to back titles and ask supporters to turn out in large numbers to support the lads on the day.

Junior A Championship
Our Junior A team play their championship semi-final this Sunday against Carrigallen. Fixture details TBC. Please let’s get behind the team as they bid to reach the county final.

County Final Sweep
Thanks to everybody who supported our County Final Sweep. The Full-time winner was Mary Gilgunn (Clooneen Park) winning €200 with Owen Clancy (Carrick Road) winning €100 for halftime.

Sympathy
The club extends deepest sympathy to the family of the late John Connolly, Strandhill Road, Sligo Town. John played football with Glencar Manor in the 70’s, when he was stationed as a Garda in town. He was a member of 77 team who captured the first championship title for the club. A Minutes Silence was observed for John ahead of the Leitrim Championship Final in Páirc Seán on Sunday. May he Rest in Peace.
