Annaduff Family Fun Day 2018 – The Annaduff Family Fun Day takes place on the 12th of August next and is entering its 5th year. It is now an established date in the local diary. The Committee have been busy putting this years event together and we are sure you will not be disappointed. As usual over half of the days proceeds are donated to a nominated Charity and this years Charity Partner is Pieta House. We are extremely grateful to the Community in Annaduff and beyond who support this event annually and have helped make it so successful. This year we will have all of the usual attractions ie. the biggest underage football blitz in Leitrim, Kids games, competitions, entertainments, book sales, cakes sales, hot food, ice cream, demonstration stands, and much, much more. Each year the Committee has built a central theme into the event. This year we will focus on Farm Safety and increasing awareness of same. As the majority of our patrons young and old are from family farms have access to or interact with farms we feel that the fun day is an ideal platform to remind and educate all, on the dangers farms present in a discreet but impacting manner. The Farm Safety feature will take the form of numerous live presentations and demonstrations, conducted by guest speakers, in a safe and controlled environment. On the day among others, a sample of our speakers is as follows:
Peter Gohary –Peter is a nationally recognized authority on Health and Safety. A native of EyreCourt, Co. Galway, Peter was involved in Construction and Farming, until October 2009 when a farm accident resulted in the loss of one leg, badly damaging the other one and suffering related injuries. Peter has turned this experience into a positive and since his recovery, he tells his personal story and advises on best practice on farms. He has appeared on many well-known TV Shows and has featured at The Ploughing, at various top end Agricultural Shows, Exhibitions etc. His talk and practical demonstration are inspiring and are not to be missed.
Alma Jordan – Agri-kids – Alma hails from Co. Kildare, and in 2014 set up her own business, “Agri Kids” to teach children about Farm Safety. Her concept is to empower children to absorb the dangers around them and a fun and real manner. She does same by interactive educational presentations, reading, colouring, etc, All of which are designed to change safety attitudes at a young age and build safer futures on farms. Alma will be situated in the Community Centre on the day and will work with the various groups of primary school children present. In conjunction with her presentation, the pupils of Annaduff National School have been busy drawing Farm Safety Posters and their entries will be displayed in the Centre and will be judged by Peter and Alma on the day.
More details will be issued in due course. We will also be looking for volunteers for the big day, keep it in mind folks.
