Ladies Football – Hard Luck to the Aughawillan Ladies’ who were defeated by Dromahair in both Senior and Junior games last Sunday. Their next Senior game is Wed. 14th March in Kiltubrid at 8.30pm. Keep up to date with the ladies’ team on their new Facebook page – Aughawillan Ladies GFA.

Poker Classic – Aughawillan GAA are holding their traditional Good Friday Poker Classic in Aughawillan Community Centre on Friday, April 30th at 9.30pm. Registration from 9. Entry €20, rebuys €5, 50/50 cash prizes. Refreshments served on the night. All welcome to come along to what is always a very enjoyable night.

Dublin – Aughawillan Sponsored Cycle – Martin Flanagan and Gary Deane are holding a table quiz in Jackie’s Bar on March 16th at 9pm, spot prizes and refreshments on the night. Great way to start St Patrick’s Weekend!

Ladies Football – Best of Luck to the Aughawillan Ladies’ who start their league campaign against Dromahair at home this weekend at 11am.

The cyclists are as follows: Mickey Quinn, Declan Darcy, Peter Prior, Gerry Flanagan, Noel Gilheany, Martin Flanagan, Gary Deane, Damien Gilheany, Pat Flanagan, Paul Bohan, Pauric Gilheany, Thomas Quinn, Niall Bohan, John Mannion, Pat Joe McNiffe, Seamus Quinn, Barry McBrien, Martin Flynn, Des Quinn & Ollie Plunkett.
The goal is for each member of the cycle is to raise €1,000 to go towards the upgrading of the playing surface of the main pitch. Any donations that exceed this target will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society. Donations can be made to the cyclists directly or online (more details on this to follow).

Flanagan Cup & Registration Day – The Flanagan Cup will take place on Sunday 4th March 1.30 at Aughawillan GAA pitch. This is an opportunity for young and old to get out and have a kick of the ball. There’ll be tea & cakes in the clubrooms after the game – any available bakers – your offerings would be much appreciated. We will also be having a registration day in the clubrooms from 1pm until 3 pm. Adult membership €25 and Junior membership €10.

Aughawillan GAA Club Notes 08/01/2018

Reeling in the years – 2017 – It was a successful year our Junior team who gained promotion to Division 3 after reaching the league final but were narrowly defeated by Carrigallen. Belnaleck GAA reached the Ulster Junior Final, having won the Fermanagh County Final, led by Aughawillan man Gerry Flanagan. All-Ireland glory came to the Leitrim U-14 ladies team with a final win over Armagh. Aughawillan was well represented with Jerome Quinn, Siomha Quinn, Caoimhe Prior and Siobhan Maguire. There was also All-Ireland winners in the Master’s Competition, with Longford/Leitrim defeating Kildare in the final, with Pat Flanagan & Ollie Plunkett representing Aughawillan. Noel & Gary Plunkett and the Leitrim Junior Footballers beat Mayo to win the Connaught Final earlier this year before losing out to Kerry in the All-Ireland Semi-Final. Aughawillan was also represented by Morgan Quinn on the Leitrim Hurling Team who reached the Lory Meagher Final held in Croke Park against Lancashire. Congratulations to Maeve Quinn who was presented with the Leitrim Sports Star Hall of Fame Award for her contribution to Ladies’ Football throughout the years.

It was a busy year off the field for the couples who got married in 2017 – Eimear & Colm Guckian, Eimear & Diarmuid McHugh, Niall & Shona O’Hara, Olive & Seamus Carway, Gerard & Aileen McGovern, Marian & Paul Curry, Rosemary & Thomas Conefrey, Kevin & Amiee McCabe, Ciara & James Keane. We wish you many years of happiness together. Congratulations to all those who welcomed new additions to the family this year – Eilis & David Culligan and their daughter Fiadh, Gary & Petra Deane and their son Leo, Michael & Louise Quinn & their daughter Cara, Padraig & Caroline McGovern and their daughter Saoirse, Barry & Annette Prior and their son Senan.

Aughawillan GAA Christmas Draw – Time’s running out to get tickets for our Annual Christmas Draw, with €8,000 of prizes to give away and a first prize of €5,000. Please support the draw by buying a ticket for €20 or 3 for €50.  Tickets will also be available online, check our Facebook page for more details.  The draw will take place in the Viking Lounge on Saturday 6th January.
Aughawillan GAA Christmas Poker Classic –  The Annual Poker Classic was held in the Ballymac Inn on Friday 29th December. Congratulations to all the winners, who are as follows: 1st: Pat Geoghegan, 2nd: Maura Sweeney, 3rd: Paul Gaffney, 4th: Pat Flanagan, 5th: Kevin Foley, 6th: Christy Creamer, 7th: Sean Quinn, 8th: Paddy Gilroy. Many thanks to the Ballymac for hosting the event and providing refreshments on the night. Thanks also to Timmy Winters and Pat Flanagan for running the classic and to those who donated spot prizes. Remembered on the night were Tommy Flynn and Vincie Gallogy who was a great supporter of the poker classic.
