Connacht Gold Senior Championship – Our senior team were in action on Saturday against Glencar Manor in our quarterfinal replay, the match ended with Manor coming out on top by a score of 1:21 to 1:06. It was a tough end to this year’s senior championship with the lads giving it their all but failing to hit the levels of the previous week. There was a lot of disappointment at the end but the lads should take heart in their run so far this year where they have served up some great football.  It’s easy to forget that our lads  are young and that you’re playing  a team that’s made a habit of winning championships with a wealth of experience. Hopefully the lads can dust themselves down and put this defeat down to experience and come back stronger next season. Best wishes on a speedy recovery to Peter Reynolds who was injured in the match

Ladies Minor Championship Winners – A huge congratulations to our St Felim’s minor ladies who put on one of the best team performances of 2018 to halt Glencar/Manorhamilton’s three-in-a-row Championship bid on a scoreline of 4-13 to 3-6. It was a tough, close fought game throughout in which we trailed by a point at half-time but despite a brilliant start to a second half – we scored 1-3 to Manor’s solitary point within the first five minutes to lead by four – nine minutes later the opposition had put away 2-2 to no score and all of a sudden we were in arrears by four. However, over the final quarter of the game our girls we absolutely outstanding, driving home an unanswered 3-5 to lift the cup. It’s impossible to name names after such a wonderful display of football and massive credit goes to the whole panel, from number one to thirty-plus, for their efforts over the past couple of years. They are a credit to our clubs and get a chance to showcase their ability once again on the weekend of the 20th/21st October in the Connacht semi-final. Day, time, venue & opposition to be confirmed.

Team: Eadaoin Casey; Emma Honeyman, Grainne Casey, Mollie Murphy; Grainne Prior, Abbi Sweeney, Laoise Moran-King; Celine Shortt (0-1), Megan McGovern (0-4); Niamh Donohoe (0-1), Megan O’Rourke, Rachel McIntyre (1-2); Lily Byrne (2-3), Ciara McGoldrick (1-2), Genevieve Canning.

Sub Used: Aoibhin McGoldrick.

They put in a great performance against a very good Leitrim Gaels team but were unable to progress to the semi-final losing the game 2:14 to 0:10. Over the course of the campaign these lads have played some great football and have certainly shown that they deserved to be in this competition defeating some first team squads and playing a good brand of football. The kids were fantastic and put in an exceptional performance on the day and were worthy representatives for Leitrim. Well done to them all

Paddy RIP – Tuesday the 7th of August will be remembered by the people of Ballinamore as the day we heard of the passing of an icon, legend and possibly one of Leitrim greatest., ever players, a sporting genius akin to the Best, Ronaldo, Messi, Rock, Connolly and Cooper of their day.

As the news started to seep through the town and hinterland of Ballinamore, even though tinged with sadness it was an opportunity which was grasped by those that knew or saw Paddy to regale those that didn’t of his exploits, we heard of the scores, the individual and team accolades bestowed on him over the years, the skill he had, the matches he won, the legend grew and was passed on to a new generation.

Children asked parents and grand parents who paddy was and why he was the greatest, in a time when YouTube can be searched for every snippet it was a joy in a way to step back from technology and think for a moment about what those favourite moments were and to be able pass them onto those unfortunate not have seen the great man in action, a legend was reborn for those that had never seen him play.

It was evident on the night of Paddy’s removal that his was the case, young and old gathered from the pitch to the church to guard Paddy as he was making his final journey. There were club colours in attendance all along the route and not just O’Heslins. Our current players all too young to have seen the great man play stood sombre and proud as they walked from the pitch in a touching tribute to the great man, guarding the great forward as he made his last run. The cortege stopped at high street at Paddy’s bar and a touching tribute as his number 11 jersey hung proud in his former residence. The cortege moved on with current players, family and friends carrying Paddy as he made his way to the church where large crowds gathered to pay their respects to one of Ballinamore’s Greatest.

One’s passing is never the end, and nor will it be for Paddy as I am sure he will now be lacing up his boots for a game with some of those great men that have gone before and cracker I am sure it will be.

To Paddy’s family, friend and all that knew him, our deepest sympathies, Paddy may have passed but maybe a legend has been born.

Both team continued to trade points before Drumreilly scored an important goal to lead by three with 14 mins of the second half gone. Comhbhron Trevor Martin – Footballer and Hurler – RIP
Ballinamore Hurling club would like to express their deep sadness at the news of the death of Trevor Martin at the young age of 36.
Initially, he played underage football with Ballinamore Seán O’Heslin’s, but transferred to the Aughawillan/Drumreilly combination, then under the name Drumreilly. He won a number of underage titles with them and was a key forward in many of their successes. He later returned to play football with O’Heslin’s.
Trevor will be especially remembered as a hurler and his enthusiasm for the game was exceptional. He would never miss a training session and his contribution to many of our successes at underage level was immense. In 1996, Ballinamore hurlers had a memorable win over St Mary’s in the County Under 16 Final, the score being 3-6 to 3-2.  The Leitrim Observer report of the game stated that “what clinched the match was the brilliant goal scoring of Trevor Martin”.
In 2001, Trevor was playing in the Co Senior Hurling Final against St Mary’s in Annaduff and received an accidental but serious head wound early in the game. He was taken to a doctor who stitched and bandaged his head. Trevor returned to the match and wanted to get playing again. Such was his enthusiasm.
A guard of honour of Ballinamore Hurlers and Aughawillan footballers met his remains at Ballinamore Church on Thursday evening, showing the high esteem in which he was held.
Ballinamore Hurling club extends sympathy to his father Peter, brothers Damien and Jason, sisters Caroline, Tracey and Vanessa and his children Benjamin and Sophia.

Hurling – Well done to our young hurlers who had a fantastic day out at the all Ireland semi final on Saturday, it was a very special day out for the lads and special mentionmust go to Niall, Paddy and the Tain Og League for organizing, were sure it is something that will stay with the lads for the rest of their lives.

Dunnes ACL Division One – The chase for a place in the League final is hotting up with only two more rounds to play, after our victory against a battling Ballinaglera team on Saturday by a score of 1:12 to 1:09. Hopefully as many of you as possible can get to the games to cheers the lads on.

Dunnes ACL Division One – Well done to the senior lads who had an excellent victory against the neighbours Aughawillian on Saturday night in Aughawillan. As with any match with the neighbours it was a tight and hard fought affair with only a point to separate both teams at the end with us finishing victorious with a final score of 0:10 to 0:09. Next up is a away game against St Marys on Wednesday in Carrick at 20:00 followed by a home game against Ballinaglera at 1830 on Saturday

Sponsorship – As you all know sponsorship is the cornerstone of any successful club and we as a club are very lucky to have some wonderful sponsors who support us each and every season, this week KBG Chartered Accountants sponsored our senior lads, providing them with some great kit bags, which were presented by our very own Denis Dolan on behalf of KGB to club captain Liam. We would like to thank Denis and KBG for their continued support.

Newtowngore Engineering Under 17 Championship – Under 17s a good start to the championship campaign with a win over Fenagh. Next game is against St. Joseph’s in the park on Monday evening at 7pm. All support will be greatly appreciated.

Dunnes ACL Division 2 – The Division 2 lads take on Kiltubrid on Saturday evening in the Paric at 20:00, after the Senior game. Your support would be greatly appreciated

Leitrim Minors – Hard luck to the Leitrim minors and our own Tom Prior and Francis McGovern who were defeated against Galway on Friday evening, defeats are difficult to take on occasion but the lads should take heart and encouragement on the improvements they have made so far this year

A Night Not to be missed!!!  The wait is nearly over this Thursday night “This is Your Life” This event promises to be a great night of entertainment and one not to be missed. The event is part of the Gerry Farry lord Mayor campaign for Ballinamore Festival with all proceeds going towards this year’s family festival. Tickets are 10euro and can be purchased on the night

Cill Mor Gaels – Our u12’s amalgamated with Kiltubrid GAA took part in the u12 cross county league. We fared very well in this competition, with the lads making it all the way to the semi-final. The ssemi-finaltook place against Clonguish Gaels and was an absolute belter of a game. The lads got off to a great start hitting the opening score with a goal, once Clonguish settled into the game they began to show their dominance scoring 1-5 without reply.

The lads dug deep and snatched another goal and a point to close the gap to just 2 points at the break. In the second half, Clonguish came out strong and once again controlled the game for large periods of the half scoring another 1-6. However, the lads were not going to be beaten that easily and in a late surge we gabbed another 2-2, unfortunately, we ran out of time and Clonguish advanced to the final.

The game ended 2-11 to 4-3, but the lads have to be commended for the way they showed such courage and determination never giving up and fighting to the final whistle. A semi-final was a great achievement but if the lads were to be rewarded for their efforts all year a final would have been far more just. Special thanks to the mentors from both Ballinamore and Kiltubrid for working so hard with the players over the course of the competition.

Barna Recycling U13 Championship – The u13 championship starts this Thursday when our young players take on Gail Na Meilge at 19.00 away from home, again these young players would love your support

U9 and U11 – Well done to our u9 and u11 players who took part in a great blitz on Monday evening against the neighbours Aughnasheelin. It was a great evening for the players and special thanks to Aughnasheelin for hosting and organising the game and of course all the players, parents and mentors for making it happen.

Ballinamore Hurling – A massive well done to our u13 hurlers who made it through to the final after overcoming a gallant Woodford Gaels last week in the Tain Og league It was a great team effort with outstanding performances from everyone.
