Championship Success Well done to former Bornacoola players David O Connor and John Mc Guinness who both tasted championship success with their new clubs recently. On Sunday week last, John lined out in his customary wing back position as his Mallow club captured the Cork intermediate title at the newly redeveloped Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Meanwhile last Sunday, David lined out at midfield for Fulham Gaels in the London Senior Championship final as former Tyrone All Ireland winner Owen Mulligan kicked the late scores that sealed a one-point victory for Fulham over Tír Chonaill Gaels. Well done to you both.
Hallowe’en Fancy Dress Don’t forget this Sunday night, October 29th, the Club will be holding a Hallowe’en Fancy Dress party in the Copper still – music will be by D.J Damian (Mc Guinness) and a great night is ensured judging by last year.

This is the first year that the initiative has been rolled out in Bornacoola and it is great to see the variety of people who have gotten involved – well done to co-ordinator Cora Mc Cauley for all her hard work in this context.
New Arrivals Congratulations to Derek and Rosemary Hunt on the birth of their third child Darragh recently. The Hunts are certainly doing their bit for the future of men’s football in the parish as Darragh joins brothers Conor and James. Congratulations also to Bornacoola stalwart John Bohan and wife Sinead on the birth of their second child – Abby – recently. We wish you all health and happiness for the future.
Hallowe’en Fancy Dress On Sunday night, October 29th, the Club will be holding a Hallowe’en Fancy Dress party in the Copper still – music will be by D.J Damian (Mc Guinness) and a great night is ensured judging by last year. Put it in the diary!

Ladies News
Bornacoola/St Mary’s Ladies travelled to Elphin at the weekend to play Tulsk in the Connacht Junior Championship. Unfortunately, the ladies suffered a very heavy defeat to the Roscommon champions who proved significantly stronger all over the field. Next year the girls will move up a level to participate in the Intermediate championship and despite Saturday’s result, they will be happy to have won a Junior Championship at the first time of asking.

The Underage Committee would sincerely like to thank all parents for bringing their children to training sessions and matches throughout the year and a special word of thanks goes to all of our coaches for their professionalism and commitment throughout the year, and of course to our catering committee who kept us everyone fed and watered every Saturday. Maith sibh go léir.
Mothers & Others
Our Gaelic for Mothers and Others team are in action this Wednesday night when they play Annaduff in Dromod at 8pm.
Senior Relegation
Annaduff were the opposition in last Sunday morning’s Senior Championship Relegation final in Cloone and after a close contest, it was the Bors who survived with Senior status intact on a 2-12 to 2-10 scoreline. The game was packed with drama from the very first minute and after a riveting first half, it was the men in Black and Amber who entered the dressing rooms a point in front, 0-7 to 0-6. The decisive period of the game was probably the first ten minutes of the second half as Bornacoola dominated possession and scored 1-3 without reply. However, full credit to our neighbours who rallied admirably and scored two goals of their own to level the game with ten minutes remaining. But it was the Bors who struck next – a Damian Moran free was batted out by the Annaduff defence and Sean Mc Keon was on hand, with a little help from Ronan Mulligan, to finish to the Annaduff net and from there, the Bors saw out the closing stages relatively comfortably to ensure a 2-12 to 2-10 win. Well done to the panel and the two Declans on retaining Senior status for another year. Team and Scorers on Sunday were: Mark Mc Closkey, Brian Duffy (0-1), Conor Mc Cauley (0-1), David Mulligan, Damian Mc Guinness, Jason Conroy, Shane Conroy, Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, Philip Howard (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (1-0), Ollie Vaughan (0-1), Brian Conroy, Damian Moran (1-7) and Ronan Mulligan. Subs used: Liam Mulligan, Trevor Howard (0-1), Mervyn Howard and Kevin Mulligan.

A draw, to include all of the tickets sold, will now take place at the next Club Draw in the Brandywell on Saturday Sept 30th and the winning ticket will receive the €500 top prize.
Minor Championship Rinn Gaels still await their first victory in the Minor Championship. Mohill were the visitors to Dromod on Saturday morning last and it was the town team who edged a very competitive game on a 3-10 to 4-4 scoreline. The team’s final group game is against St Brigids.
Division 2 This seniors travelled to Ballinamore on Saturday evening for their latest game in the league but it was the home side who emerged victorious on a 2012 to 0-8 scoreline.
Sympathy Our sympathies are extended to the Murray family, Carrick on Shannon and all involved with the St Mary’s club on the sad passing of Bernard last week. Bernard was a star for Club (and in hurling, County) and was a fair, sporting and competitive opponent over the years for many wearing the Black and Amber. Solas na bhflaitheas air.
Senior Relegation
Gortletteragh ran out deserving winners in a close and at times exciting Relegation semi-final in Carrigallen on Saturday evening last. Our neighbours made the better start and enjoyed a 0-3 to 0-1 lead before a period of good Bornacoola pressure culminated in a goal from the penalty spot – Sean Mc Keon dispatching confidently to the Gortletteragh net. However Gortletteragh responded almost immediately when Jack Heslin cut through the defence to restore their lead with a goal of his own. At half time, we trailed by three points (1-7 to 1-4). The Bors dominated long periods of the second half, but failed to turn their dominance into scores. Nonethless with just ten minutes remaining, the Bors had deservedly pulled level (1-8 apiece) and the game was anyone’s for the taking. Gortletteragh though would finish the stronger, scoring four points to a solitary Bor response and clinching a 1-12 to 1-9 victory. Our senior championship schedule will complete in a fortnights time, as it begun, with a winner takes all clash against neighbours Annaduff for the right to play Senior Championship football in 2017. Team on duty was Mark Mc Closkey, David Mulligan, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, , Damian Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Allan Croghan, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Cloksey, Brian Conroy, Sean Mc Keon, Ollie Vaughan, Ronan Mulligan, Damian Moran and Philip Howard. Subs used were Liam Mulligan, Shane Conroy and Trevor Howard

Division 2 This Saturday evening we face Sean O Heslins in Ballinamore in a game that will have a 6pm throw-in. Our best wishes to Allan Croghan who suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury on Saturday – hopefully Allan will be back in action before too long.
Senior Championship We exited the Championship on Saturday evening last in disappointing circumstances when Drumreilly deservedly took both points in an engaging game in Páirc Seán, After a good start where the Bors led by 0-3 to 0-1, Drumreilly struck clinically for two well taken goals leaving the Bors on the back foot going into the second half, six points in arrears – 2-3 to 0-3. Drumreilly got the fast start in the second half and extended the lead to 8 points before the Bors hit back with a goal from Allan Croghan followed by a Damian Mc Guinness point. However, four wides in a row and the passing up of an excellent one on one goal chance proved crucial as Bornacoola failed to capatilise on the scoreboard from a period of solid pressure. Drumreilly eventually reasserted their dominance towards the end of the game and finished strongly to run out 6 point winners as Bornacoola finished the game with 13 men following two late dismissals. Team on duty was Mark Mc Closkey, David Mulligan, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, Shane Conroy, Damian Mc Guinness (0-1), Allan Croghan (1-1), Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Cloksey, Brian Conroy (0-1), Sean Mc Keon, Ollie Vaughan (0-2), Trevor Howard, Conor Mc Cauley, Philip Howard (0-1), Subs used were Liam Mulligan, Ronan Mulligan, Mervyn Howard and Kevin Shanley.

Senior Championship We suffered a disappointing defeat in Round 4 of the Senior Championship when Dromahair were deserved 2-11 to 0-14 victors over the Bors in Ballinamore on Saturday evening last. The dismissal of Damian Moran in the first period was a significant blow for Bornacoola and one from which we never recovered. It now means that this weekend’s game against Drumreilly is a must win fixture – throw-in in Páirc Seán for this one will be 5.15pm.
Lough Rynn Harvest Festival & Vintage Day The biggest day in the parish calendar comes to pass again next Sunday when all roads lead to Lough Rynn Castle for the 2017 Lough Rynn Harvest Festival and Vintage day. And what a day it promises to be with a bumper list of attractions – something for every member of the family. So come early, enjoy the festival and the beautiful venue and then relax and finish the day (with a dance) to the great sound of Mick Flavin and his band. Club members will again be performing stewarding on the day and we’d ask as many of our players and members as possible to make themselves available to help out on the day.
Club Draw Our thanks to Derek and staff at the Copper Still for hosting the August Club Draw on Saturday night last – winners were: €100 Ruby Shanley €20 Paddy Joyce, Pat Farrell (Esker), Deirdre Mc Keon, Gerry Gearty and Mervyn Howard.
Junior B Championship The Junior team exited the championship on Sunday morning last when they were overpowered by St Caillins on a 2-16 to 1-9 scoreline. Goals in either half for the Fenagh men proved crucial and it was the victors who led by 1-8 to 0-5 at the interval. A second goal put the game beyond the Bors although a late John Shanley effort briefly offered some hope. Team on duty was Conor Hackett, Luke Jones, Brian Reilly, Kevin Mulligan (0-1), Tony Shanley (0-1), Liam Mulligan (0-1), Gearoid Mulligan, Mervyn Howard, Daniel Farrell (0-1), Roy Keenan (0-1), Liam Jones, Jonathan Duffy (0-1), Gerry Gearty, John Shanley (1-1) and Noel Mc Enroe (0-2). Subs used were John Bohan and Declan Conboy.

Senior Championship
A hugely exciting Senior championship victory over Glencar/Manorhamilton in Shane Mc Gettigan Park on Saturday evening last got our campaign back on track after the disappointment of two early defeats in our group. After a promising start from Manor in which they dominated possession but squandered some decent chances, the Bors took over as the first half progressed and two goals, from Damian Moran and Philip Howard, as well as a series of excellent points put the Bors in a commanding half time position, 2-9 to 0-4 in front. It was a resurgent Manor as the second half begun and the early dismissal of Michael Duignan reducing Bornacoola to 14 players, aided their cause as they clawed back the lead with the aid of the breeze, eventually reducing it to just three points as the game entered its closing stages. However, a terrific point from Liam Mulligan only four minutes from time (Bornacoola’s first of the half) broke a run of 8 unanswered Manor points and steadied the Bornacoola ship. Manor again responded, but a late Philly Howard effort ensured the Bors hung on for an important 2-11 to 0-13 victory. We still need to win the remaining two games in the group – against Dromahair and Drumreilly – to have a chance of progressing to the quarter finals. Team on Saturday evening was Mark Mc Closkey, Brian Duffy, Jason Conroy, David Mulligan, Shane Conroy, Conor Mc Cauley, Liam Mulligan, Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, Damian Moran, Sean Mc Keon, Allan Croghan, Philip Howard, Ollie Vaughan, Trevor Howard. Subs used were Damien Mc Guinness, Brian Conroy and Ronan Mulligan
