Well Done Girls:
Well done to St. Joseph’s ladies who had a great 0-11 to 0-09 victory over Dromahair in the senior championship final replay played in Bornacoola last Saturday evening. These girls have shown fantastic character to continually come back despite suffering defeat in so many finals and would not be denied on Saturday in a tense encounter. Well done girls and enjoy the celebrations.
U13 Championship Final:
St Josephs U13’s played Fenagh in the final of the 13-a-side championship on Friday evening at the centre of excellence in Annaduff. Unfortunately for our lads it was a game in which they struggled to gain a foothold against a physically stronger Fenagh team who enjoyed a comfortable victory and are deserving champions. Hard luck to our lads who put in a great effort all year and have made good progress and hopefully they will have better days in the future. The panel of players on Friday evening was Jonathan Harkness, Ben Harte, Fiachra Casey, Eanna Mc Namara, Cathal Mc Namara, Liam Mc Intyre, Pearse Kenny, Declan Brooks, Kalum Mc Loughlin, Aodán Harte, Harry Wilson, Cian Mimna, Darren Shortt, Dylan O’ Connell, Tommy Kearney, Fionnan Harte, Gary Mitchell, James Quinn, Keelan Furlong, Padraig Maguire, Jack Mc Intyre, Matthew Mc Cabe, Kevin Doherty, Cian Mc Hugh. Thanks to the large group of supporters who attended the final and other games all year and helped provide transport to away matches. Thanks also to Ciaran Harte, Fintan McBrien, Noel Shortt and Padraig McLoughlin for their huge commitment throughout the year.
U15 Championship:
St. Joseph’s U15’s played Fenagh in the U15 (15-a-side) championship semi final in Carrigallen last Monday. We performed very well in the first half against a formidable Fenagh outfit and led by 5 points at half time. Fenagh began the second half strongly, and after converting a penalty, our lead was reduced to the narrowest of margins. However, an excellent final quarter saw us score three goals and run out winners on a final score of St. Joseph’s 3-11 Fenagh St. Caillin’s 1-08. We now meet St. Mary’s in the final, date and venue TBC. Keep the green & blue flags out in support of these young lads.
Intermediate Championship:
All roads lead to Ballinamore next Sunday when we take on Aughnasheelin in the championship semi final at 2:30pm. We have had a great run in the championship after a poor 1st game and hopefully our lads can deliver another performance on Sunday. Good luck lads.

Intermediate Championship:
Our seniors had a good win over Ballinaglera in the quarter final of the intermediate championship in Aughavas last Saturday evening. We got off to a blistering start and, inspired by an outstanding Eoin Ward, we led by 2-06 to 0-04 at half time. Things got even better in the second half when a third Eoin Ward goal left us eleven points ahead. However, Ballinaglera responded immediately with a goal of their own and scored an additional three unanswered points to leave just five between the teams. The crucial moment of the game came with six minutes to go when Enda Lyons brilliantly saved a Ballinaglera penalty when all the momentum was with the North Leitrim men. Two points from Colm Kiernan and Ciaran Flynn in the last three minutes of the game put the result beyond doubt. Final score: Carrigallen 3-10 Ballinaglera 1-10. We now progress to the semi final where our opponents will be Aughnasheelin. Team & scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Barry Nash, David Reilly, Darran Reilly, Barry Dolan, Barry Reilly, Eoin Ward (3-05) Gary Reilly, Ciaran Kenny, Daniel Lyons, Gerard McDermot (0-1), Marc Dolan (0-1), Ciaran Flynn (0-2) & Colm Kiernan (0-1). Best of luck to the lads in the final.

Intermediate championship:
Our seniors travelled to Cloone last Sunday morning to take on Kiltubrid in round 4 of the intermediate championship. The early exchanges of the 1st half saw both sides swap points before Carrigallen took control of the game mid way through the 1st half with a well executed Eoin Ward goal after great work from Gerald Percival in the build up. However, we failed to build on our advantage, allowing Kiltubrid back into the game and trailed by a single point at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Carrigallen building a 4 point lead thanks to points from Gerald Percival (2) and Ciaran Flynn and an Eoin Ward penalty after some great work from Daniel Lyons. This left us 4 points up with 13 minutes to play. However, we failed to score for the remainder of the game and Kiltubrid scored 4 unanswered points to draw the game. Final score: Carrigallen 2-10 Kiltubrid 1-13. Team & scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Darren Reilly, David Reilly, Barry Reilly, Barry Dolan, Daniel Lyons, Brian O’Rourke, Gary Reilly, Marc Dolan, Eoin Ward (2-0), Gerard McDermot, Gerard Percival (0-6), Ciaran Flynn (0-3) & Ciaran Kenny. Subs: Colm Kiernan for Gerald Percival; Matis Polis for Brian O’Rourke; Barry Nash for Ciaran Kenny & Derek Reilly for Marc Dolan.

Junior Championship:
Our juniors played Allen Gaels in Round 2 of the Junior “A” Championship in Ballinamore last Saturday. It was very much a game of two halves with Carrigallen, assisted with the wind at their backs in the first half, enjoying a commanding 2-12 to 0-03 half time lead. However, Allen Gaels dominated the early exchanges of the 2nd half, scoring 7 unanswered points, before a Colm Kiernan goal put the game beyond any doubt. Final score: Carrigallen 3-14 Allen Gaels 0-11. Team and scorers: Darren Kenny, Evan O’Connell, Maris Polis, Conor Gray, David Percival, Ciaran Reilly, Ciaran Gray, Ciaran Kenny, Gary Reilly (0-1), Sean McCabe (0-3), Gerard McDermott (1-0), Eamon Dolan (0-1), Ciaran Kellegher (0-3), Colm Kiernan (1-4) & Conor O’Neill (1-2). U17’s:
St. Joseph’s U17’s were defeated by Mohill last Monday evening in Mohill. We competed well, but conceded goals at critical periods during the game enabling Mohill to keep us at arms length throughout. Final score: Mohill 3-15 St. Joseph’s 2-11.
U15’s:
St. Joseph’s U15’s had a hard fought draw against St. Mary’s in the championship last Thursday evening in Carrigallen. Despite having the advantage of the breeze in the 1st half, we trailed St. Mary’s by 2 points at half time. However, a more determined second half effort saw us leading by 1 point heading into injury time, only for St. Mary’s to snatch a draw at the death. Final score: St. Joseph’s 3-08 St. Mary’s 0-17
U12’s:
St Josephs U12s took part in Mohill Festival tournament on Saturday. In the group stage we recorded a win over Drumlish and defeats against Ballinamore and Mohill. We then had a win against Gortletteragh in the shield semi final which put us into shield final against Allen Gaels. The lads gave their all in the final but unfortunately lost out by the narrowest of margins. Thanks to Mohill for the invite and hospitality on the day.

We are saddened to learn of the tragic passing last week in Florida, USA of Kelly Rooney Leonard. We extend our sympathy to Kelly’s mother Jacqui, father David Leonard, her step father Eamon Quinn and her brothers Kevin and James. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam dílis.

St. Joseph’s enjoyed a great day out at Croke Park last Sunday at the Mayo/Kerry game. We had 66 children accompanied by some “big kids” travel and a great time was had by all despite the bad weather.

Intermediate Championship:
Our seniors played Leitrim Gaels in round 3 of the championship in Drumshanbo last Sunday afternoon. Despite missing a number of players, our lads got off to a blistering start with two Colm Kiernan points either side of a Eoin Ward goal giving us a 1-02 to 0-01 lead after 6 minutes. An uncharacteristic mistake from Enda Lyons gave Leitrim Gaels a foothold in the game and at halftime time they lead by 2 points, 1-05 to 1-03. Both sides continued to exchange points in the 2nd half but a converted Gerard Percival penalty in the 9th minute of the 2nd half proved to be the crucial score. Leitrim Gaels immediately replied with 3 points in as many minutes but our lads kept going and scored 4 further points to hold out for a 1 point win, despite relentless pressure in the last 5 minutes. Final score: Carrigallen 2-09 Leitrim Gaels 1-11. Team and scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Darren Reilly, David Reilly, Danny Lyons, Barry Dolan, Ciaran Kenny, Brian O’Rourke, Eoin Ward (1-01), Gary Reilly (0-01), Gerard McDermot (0-01), Marc Dolan, Colm Kiernan (0-02), Ciaran Flynn and Gerard Percival (1-04). Subs: Andrew McManus for Gerald Percival. Our next game is against Kiltubrid the weekend after next.

U13’s:
St Joseph’s U13s continued their recent good run in the championship with a win over Kiltubrid in Aughavas on Thursday evening. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, we were two points down at half time on a scoreline of St Joseph’s 2-02 Kiltubrid 1-07. We were fortunate to be as close as we were at this point as our first half performance left a lot to be desired with many misplaced passes and overall lack of energy contributing to a disappointing opening period. The second half was much better as the lads upped their work rate and with the wind at their backs were able to run out winners on a somewhat misleading final score of St Joseph’s 7-13 Kiltubrid 1-11. Well done to both teams and the referee. Next game is away to Drumkeerin, date tbc.
U15’s:
Well done to St. Joseph’s U15’s who had a comprehensive win over Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo last Monday. Our next game is against St. Mary’s in Carrigallen next Thursday at 7pm.
