New –  was certainly the theme for last Sundays FBD league at Advantcard Pairc Sean MacDiarmada on Sunday last. We had a new season, a new format for the FBD League, new rules, a new Mayo Management team, a new Leitrim manager and a new management team, a new Leitrim Sponsor, and Leitrim sporting their New Jerseys. Well if new was the theme beforehand, extraordinary was the word on every body’s lips afterwards as Leitrim turned in a massive performance to draw level with a vastly experienced Mayo team. To cap matters off it became a historic occasion when we had for the first time a game in a recognised competition finished on penalties. What a day to remember. Sympathy – We extend our sincere sympathy to the Heeran Family Adoon Cloone on the death of Irene Heeran recently. The Heeran family have been steeped in GAA tradition, and have contributed handsomely to GAA activities in the parish over a long number of years.

It is with great regret that we extend our sincere sympathy to the family of the late Jim Foy Riverstown Cloone, who died recently. Jim had been an active member of Cloone GAA in his young days and filled many important role, as a player, referee, umpire, linesman and indeed any other duty that was required. Jim also used his acting skills to great effect, to raise much needed funds for Cloone GAA when he participated in many local Drama productions organised by the club. Jim was also renowned for his dancing skills which he so eloquently displayed in Doherty’s Hall, much to the envy of the many young ambitious two left-footers in the hall. Jim would have taken his dancing skills to Maguires Hall in Correneary, to faraway places like the Wonderland in Bawnboy and indeed many more. Jim was a gentleman with a great love of music, and was much loved by all who knew him. To his wife Mary and his extended family we pass on our sincere sympathy.

The Leitrim Wall – The Leitrim wall is a new initiative being organised by Leitrim County Board to complete the final phase of the Centre of excellence at Annaduff. The concept of the initiative is that patrons would buy a brick, stone or tile on which they can have their own personal inscription, and will be mounted on a newly constructed wall at the entrance to the new Centre.

This initiative gives Leitrim GAA supporters an opportunity to have a loved one remembered, at the Gaa centre and also contribute to the future development of Gaelic Games in the county. Experience of this initiative in other places is that families use the stones or bricks to remember family members who have had an active involvement in the GAA whither as players or administrators. They are commonly used as gifts to families and quite an amount of interest is being shown from exiles who have been away for a number of years and want their family name embedded in the fabric of Leitrim and in the GAA in particular. This final project will fully complete the New Centre to the highest standards, and provide a top quality training Campus which will include the most modern equipment and training facilities for the future generations of Leitrim footballers.

People who want to purchase a brick stone or tile can contact any club member. By buying a brick you are ensuring that your family name will be remembered in the folklore of Leitrim GAA and you are contributing to the future development of Gaelic games in the County.
