Junior A Champions – After 27 long years, we have been finally crowned Junior A Champions once again last Saturday evening in Ballinamore. As always, it was a titanic battle against our neighbours Glencar/Manorhamilton but we eventually crossed the line and deservedly lifted the Dick Ellis Cup. It is a remarkable achievement considering that we were barely able to field a team to compete last year. A huge congratulations and thank you to Joe Keaney, Dermot O’Rourke and Michael McGuire for all their hard work over the last year in guiding this team to the final. We appreciate the sacrifices you and your families have all made to make this success happen. To each player on the panel, we thank you for your commitment and determination in bringing success back to the club. After years of heart break and the loss of our beloved players, you have brought such joy and hope back to the parishes of Glenfarne and Kiltycogher. For that, we are forever in your debt. Commiserations to Glencar/Manorhamilton who were very gracious in defeat – we wish you every success in the future.
Thank you – The players, management and club committee would like to thank the huge number of supporters that travelled to Ballinamore on Saturday and to those who sent us many words of good luck and encouragement. Thanks to all the many clubs that supported us on the day and who also sent messages of support and congratulations. To those that stood out in the cold to cheer us on our trip home to the bonfires in Glenfarne, it was great to see such support and joyous scenes. A special thanks to Jim and Assumpta Clancy for sponsoring our post-match meal. Thanks to Ben McHugh, Pat McGriskin, The Cosy Corner and Ketty’s for hosting the teams..well into the night. Thanks to one of our stalwart sponsors John McManus and to the many people from Manorhamilton who joined our celebrations. Thanks to Ocean FM and Leitrim Observer for all the coverage they gave the final in the run-up to the game. Finally, thanks to the principals and staff of St. Michael’s National School Glenfarne & Scoil Mhic Diarmada Kiltyclogher for the welcome on Monday morning when we arrived with the Dick Ellis Cup!
