Community Walking Continues – Melvin Gaels Healthy Club Committee is joining up with Operation Transformation, the GAA and the Community, for Ireland Lights Up 2019.  The walk was interrupted last week because of a major Power cut, nevertheless, a good few turned up and took part. The walk continues every Thursday night until February 21st. The track will be lit up from 7pm to 8pm and everyone of all ages is asked to come along and join in this free weekly event.

A Great Night for the Club – The “Harte of the Matter” in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran turned out to be a great night’s entertainment for all who came along. The guest speakers on the night, Caroline Currid, Mickey Harte, Aiden O’Mahoney, Brian McEniff and Rory Gallagher were all very inspiring. Everyone who came along was very impressed by the speakers and the event as a whole. Colin Regan did a fantastic job interviewing the guests and organising in general. The audience were also entertained by “Theresa May” and “Donald Trump” who came along at short notice, and gave their views on matters in the GAA. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the night a success and to all who donated prizes for the raffle.  Thanks to all the guests for coming along and all in the community for the support.  The victorious Under 20 Championship winners were presented with their medals by Aiden O’ Mahoney on the night. Congratulations and well done to them all and their mentors. This is an event that will need to be repeated as many people were disappointed that they couldn’t make it on the night. Well done to all the organisers.

Big GAA Event – Put the 12th of January 2019 in your diary as this is when the Club will host a major GAA event in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran. There will be many well-known people from the GAA  and others taking part. Tickets for the event will be on sale from Friday next. Concussion Management – Updated Concussion Management Guidelines for Gaelic Games for your reference. This is the first time there is a common guidelines document between the three associations which will help with awareness and promotion of the key messages and recommendations in relation to concussion identification, treatment and return to play protocols. The guidelines, including other complimentary resources are also available on https://learning.gaa.ie/Concussion  An awareness and education campaign will be rolled out by all three associations in 2019.

The Late David Clancy – There was shock and sadness in the Club and wider community at the news of the sad and tragic death of David Clancy, Agharrow, Tullaghan last week. David played for Melvin Gaels and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The Club extends deepest sympathy to all David’s family, relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.

Under 20 Champions – A great day for the Under 20 team on Sunday when they defeated St Manchan’s to win the first Under 20 A Final.  This was a hard fought but deserved win. Although the game was close and the lead changed a number of times the Gaels never gave up and finished strongly. This is a fantastic way to finish 2018 and these young lads have done the Club proud. Congratulations to Darragh Rooney who won the Mat of the Match award. Well done to all the mentors, Gareth, Liam, Joe and Peter.  Great work by everyone involved. Thanks to all who came along and gave support and all who gave the team such a great welcome home.

Club AGM – There was a good attendance at the AGM on Sunday evening, and after winning the Under 20 Championship earlier in the day, the atmosphere was good. The election of officers resulted in a number of new people appointed to different positions in the Club. The new Chairman is Liam Freeburn with Pat Gallagher as Vice Chairman. Mark Cleary is remaining as Club Secretary and Mary Mc Sharry as Club Registrar and assistant. Tina Whelan is taking up the position of Club Treasurer. Katherine Williams has stepped down as Treasurer, but will do assistant Treasurer for this year. Maria Foley was appointed PRO for the Club. Martin Mc Carron is remaining as Children’s Officer. The outgoing officers were thanked for all the hard work they put in during the year gave a detailed account of all activities during the year.

Under 20 Championship Final – After another great win and another great performance, against Leitrim Gaels, the Under 20 lads are in the Championship Final next Sunday (Nov 25th) in Pairc Sean at 12noon. They take on St Manachan’s. This group of players have played some great football in the games so far, but will have to put in another good display on Sunday next to win it out. They have done the Club proud and we wish them and their mentors good luck in the Final. They will need a good support, so come along to Pairc Sean on Sunday.

Under 20 Championship Quarter Final – Congratulations and well done to all the players and mentors of the Under 20 team when they won the Championship Quarter Final against Glencar/ Manorhamilton on Sunday last in Bundoran. The Gaels played some great football from the throw-in to the final whistle and were always in control and finished up winning comfortably. Final score was Melvin Gaels 7-16, Glencar/Manorhamilton 0-8. They are now  in the Semi Final and take on Leitrim Gaels next Sunday (Nov 18th) in Leitrim Village at 12noon. Under 15 Final – A great performance from the Melvin Gaels Under 15s in the Championship Final in Carrick on Shannon was not enough to get the better of Gortletterragh on Sunday last. The Club can be very proud of this group of young lads who played so well all through this championship and performed so well in the final up until the last few minutes. Well done to all the players and mentors. No doubt this group of players will learn a lot from the experience of their achievements this year.

Under 20 Quarter Final – The Under 20 team will start the Championship next Sunday morning at the Quarter Final stage with a home game against neighbours Glencar/Manorhamilton on Sunday at 11am and will be played on Bundoran pitch. Good luck to all involved.

Underage Presentation – There was a fantastic crowd at the underage presentation in the Community Centre on Sunday evening. All players and coaches, at all ages, were acknowledged for their achievements during the year.
