Development Launch Night – The Club took part in the launch of the Development plan which was launched on Saturday night last in the Kinlough Community Centre. Even though the Senior League game had to go ahead in Ballinaglera, the Club was well represented. Kinlough native Padraic White, former CEO of IDA Ireland and former Gaels player, launched the project. Breege Connolly, the Olympian marathon runner, addressed the large crowd. Local Councillor, Justin Warnock and Noel Mc Gowan, Chairman of Kinlough Development Company outlined details of the Project. Martin Mc Laughlin of October House Designs put on a detailed display of his plans for the Community Centre, Dressing Rooms, Stand and Melvin Park, Playing Field. These facilities are urgently needed to cater for the growing population of Kinlough and the surrounding areas. Over the years, from the early seventies until the present day the community of the area and further afield has been very generous to all the fundraising ventures which resulted in the facilities in use at present. In the building of the Community Centre donations of £50 were made by the local community and surrounding areas and North Leitrim people all over the world. In the nineties, the present dressing rooms were constructed and Melvin Park was improved and again the people supported the project. Later, thanks to a very generous donation from the Gilmartin family, a piece of land was purchased for the training field and funding was secured for draining this. Once again, the people of the area or with any connection to Kinlough, Tullaghan, Askill, Rossinver, Glenade and Ballintrillick are asked to support this new development as much as possible. The fundraising has commenced and the work on Melvin Park will be starting very soon. A number of local businesses have already made generous contributions and many in the community have contributed. Thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday night, the musicians, Niamh Mc Sharry, Austin Mc Gurran and Gerry Mc Gurrran, Bridie Branley who organised the refreshments and everyone who helped in any way to make it such a successful occasion. All players, ex -players where ever they are in the world and parents of younger players are urged to contribute in some way to the fundraising so that we can have Club facilities to be proud of. The fundraising will involve “Make Your Mark on Melvin Park” for €100 which will represent a square of Melvin Park, entry into a draw, prizes 5x €1000, your name on a commemorative plaque.
Dunnes Bar League Game v Ballinaglera – The Senior team travelled to Ballinaglera on Saturday evening last and had a good win over a strong Ballinaglera team.
