Sympathy – It is with great sadness that we note the passing of John Joe Dolan, Church Street. A member of the famous Tully team of the 40’s, John Joe is surely Carrigallen’s most decorated footballer, holding a McRory cup medal with St. Pats; a Leitrim senior championship with Tully; as well as Connaught Minor and Junior championships with Leitrim. He also represented Ulster in the colleges’ interprovincial team. The Dolan family have had an unbroken association with the club throughout the years with John Joe’s grandchildren, Barry and Marc current players on our senior team. We extend our sympathies to Con, Michael, Marie, Geraldine and Colette, daughter-in-law, Bernie, grandchildren and extended family members. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Volunteers night – Our annual volunteers night will take place in Mitchell’s on Saturday 25th November.

Connacht Club – Mohill played one of their best performances of the year on Saturday last when they came up against a strong Castlebar team in McHale Park. Unfortunately, Castlebar were the winners on the day but Mohill put up a great show and the sides were level going into the last quarter. It was a great experience for our boys and they can build on it in the years to come.

Into the West – We were treated like royalty by the officials in Castlebar on Saturday. There are no VIPs in that Club, Martin Carney was selling coffee and Willie Joe Padden- the Maradona of Gaelic football in the 80s – his wife was dishing out the grub. John Maughan was also there sending best wishes to Gerry Flanagan.

Acts of kindness – We thank our main sponsors Lough Rynn Castle for once again treating the Management, Panel and Officers to a substantial breakfast on Saturday morning before the game. Martin Moran then sponsored the meal for all in Castlebar. And on the way back we were invited to the Landmark Hotel where Ciaran and John Kelly had finger food and a drink for everyone in the audience.

The players – This bunch of players has given so much happiness to the town over the past three years. They have been a great example to all the young underage players and in all the celebrations following their victories, their conduct has been exemplary.

Padraic Davis – Alas this was Manager Padraic Davis’s last game in charge of Mohill Seniors. Padraic and his team of Pete, James, Ian and Gavin will be hard replaced. For three years he nurtured many good qualities in his willing men and boys and has left the club and players a lasting legacy. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you Padraic and wish you success wherever you choose to go.

Under 21 – Padraic Davis will continue with his young charges on Sunday morning next in Kinlough as St Manchan’s play Melvin Gaels in the first round of the Under 21 Championship. The game is at 12 pm.

Under 8s – Majella Higgins and Kevin Curran brought their Under 8s to The Den Club in Cavan where the boys and girls had a wonderful day. We thank Liam Higgins for sponsoring food for the youngsters

HISTORY CORNER – The answers to last week’s quiz were, the game was against Glencar Manor, played in Bee Park and the referee was the late J.P.Newton (R.I.P.). Better not mention who the umpire was. Now the history corner turns to the underage section of the club. On 27 of April 1971, the following group of young men donned the blue and gold to represent their parish and their club in the first round of that year’s competition. The team lined out as follows, John Dillon, Brian Mulvey, John Gormley, Shane Creegan, Martin Mulvey, Sean McGovern, Hughie McGovern, Gerry Mulvey, Colm Moran, Paudge McCrann, Tadgh McHugh, Sean Doherty, Mick Harte, Padraigh Conway, Peter o Donnell. The team was defeated on a scoreline of 3 12 to 1 03. What was the competition and who were the high profile opposition?

CONNACHT CHAMPIONSHIP – We would like to extend our compliments to Leitrim County Senior Champions Mohill GAA Senior football team on their excellent performance in the Connacht Championship against Castlebar Mitchells in Castlebar on Saturday last. With the odds stacked against them, the team performed very well and were worthy County representatives.

COME DINE WITH ME – Our Annual fundraiser ‘Come Dine With Me’ takes place on Saturday night December 2nd. There are still vacancies for hosts, and if anyone would like to act as a host please give your name to club Secretary Martin McCaffrey as soon as possible.

COUNTY PANEL – Our prolific goal scorer Darren Carberry has been called into the County panel by County team manager Brendan Guckian. We wish Darren the best of luck and we look forward to him donning the green and gold in the season ahead.

Strictly Come Dancing: Not long to go now folks till the big night !!!!

Tickets are still available and cost €20, please note the ticket price includes entry to our annual draw with the chance to win a top Prize of €3000

With 20 couples vying to be crowned the inaugural Ballinamore Strictly Champions this promises to be a night of unrivalled entertainment and one you will not want to miss, if your still looking for your ticket please contact one of the dancers or a club member

Specials thanks to our main sponsors @Priors High Street and Gordon Hughes Estate Agents

Under 21: The lads will have their first game on Sunday the 5th against Melvin Gaels at 12:00 with the game played in Ballinamore, your support would be greatly appreciated

Minor Ladies defeated in Championship Final: Hard luck to our minor team who came up short against Glencar/Manor in the Championship final on Saturday afternoon. They performed brilliantly in the opening twenty minutes of each half but the opposition proved to be that bit too strong in the closing stages. Indeed, going into the last quarter of the game there were just five points between the sides but a few late goals put paid to any chances of a winning comeback being on the cards. The girls have had a cracking year, winning every game bar those against the weekend’s opponents, and given how young the panel is we have no doubt that they’ll be back contesting Minor glory again before too long! Good luck to Manor in the Connacht Championship.

U16 Girls Championship Final: Best of luck to all of our U16 panel who take on Dromahair in the Championship final this weekend. Day, time and venue to be confirmed on Facebook soon. Any support for their big day would be much appreciated by everyone.
