Results

Another busy weekend of games saw results both good and not so good. First up on Friday last was the u13 C’ship final in the Leitrim Centre of Excellence. This game saw Fenagh St Caillins take the cup with a comprehensive display against a gallant St Joseph’s team. From the throw in the Fenagh boys were in control and their work rate, skill and determination drove them on to victory. Well done to the squad of players and their coaches Killian McLoughlin, Brendan McLoughlin and Martin Doonan. Match report and pictures elsewhere in the Leitrim Observer. On Saturday morning our u17’s travelled to take on Melvin Gaels in the c’ship but they suffered defeat on a scoreline of Fenagh St Caillins 1.08, Melvin Gaels 3.10. The big game in Pairc Sean on Saturday afternoon saw our Intermediate team take on Leitrim Gaels in the C’ship quarter-final replay. Despite starting better than in the drawn game our lads couldn’t keep the momentum going throughout the game and lost out to a better Leitrim Gaels team by 0.09 to 2.09.

Bernard Murray RIP

A dark cloud of deep sadness and sorrow swept over the town of Carrick-on-Shannon and surrounding area’s on Wednesday last when news broke of the sudden and untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague Bernard Murray. Bernard, known widely as Bertie to his many, many friends, was a hugely popular figure in the club and town. He was a player with and great supporter of St. Mary’s GAA and Carrick Hurling Club. Bernard represented the club at all levels in football, giving everything he had in training, playing and volunteering. He represented all that was good in sport and in humanity itself. He mightn’t always have agreed with his opponents but he always respected them and he was unique in that he had the respect and friendship of every player that he played with and against. Bernard’s sporting life reflected his personal life, always respectful, always willing to serve, always thinking of others and putting them before himself, always being selfless and generous in every way that he knew. After serious illness Bernard showed amazing resilience to return to the playing fields, back among his friends. His community life extended to many other clubs, societies and organisations and the full extent of his contribution to the life of our community is beyond measure.

Bernard was predeceased by his beloved mother Mena. We offer our deepest sympathy and support to his heartbroken father Johnny, his sisters Kathy and Caroline, his brother in law Olcan, his nephews, Eoghan and James and his niece Mena and his many relatives and friends.

While we will all miss Bernard terribly and will take some time to come to terms with his departure from us, we are grateful for his life and pray for comfort and healing for all who mourn his passing.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Senior Ladies narrowly lose out in Division 2 League final –
Oughteragh Gaels 1-15 – Glencar/Manor 4-8
Hard luck to our ladies team who came up just short in the Division 2 League final on Sunday afternoon in Kiltubrid. The team put in a huge effort throughout against a very talented Glencar/Manorhamilton outfit who were clinical when it came to taking their chances. On the other hand, we managed to hit the woodwork no less than six times and try as we might, it just wasn’t to be our day. A huge well done to the whole panel for their achievements this season – Intermediate County Champions and they still have at least one more game in the Connacht Championship vs Moycullen of Galway.
Team: Ellen Wrynn, Leanne McGrath, Lisa Maguire, Abbi Sweeney, Maeve Hamill, Kirby Gilgunn, Katie Duignan, Ciara O’Dowd, Eilish O’Dowd (0-2), Emma McGovern, Laura O’Dowd (0-8), Roisin McHugh (1-5), Mary McNulty, Siobhan Earley, Ciara McGoldrick.

Another Championship win for the U16 Ladies!

Sean O’Heslin’s 10-7 – Annaduff 3-2

Our U16’s made it 3 wins from 3 Championship group games on Thursday evening in Annaduff, putting on yet another a brilliant performance to secure top spot. It was a tough game for long spells and despite the end scoreline, the girls had to work hard until they took it up a level in the second half. A number of players had standout games and hopefully this form will be taken forward into the semi-finals. As it stands, we have no opponent or date for that game but shall update on Facebook when further details are known.

Team: Erin Keegan, Tara Conway, Emma Honeyman, Joely McGovern, Abbi Sweeney, Gracie Reilly, Grainne Prior (0-2), Laoise Moran King (1-1), Niamh Donohoe (1-1), Megan McGovern (3-0), Emma Beirne, Lily Byrne (2-1), Eadaoin Murphy (2-1).
