Mohill Sept 11th

Senior Championship

Following the win over Drumreilly, Mohill now advances to the semi-final of the Senior Championship where St Mary’s will be the opposition the weekend after next. Drumreilly really put it up to us on Sat evening and great credit is due to this small parish, that year after year maintain their senior status. Our boys showed, courage and fitness in the last 20 mins and were worthy winners in the end.

Intermediate Championship

Our second string gave a sterling performance against Aughanasheelin’s first team on Sunday evening and was unlucky not to get a draw. They have had a wonderful Championship and we look forward to even better things from these talented young men in the years to come.

Under 13

Two of our Under 13 goalies have sustained broken hands in the last two games. Aaron McCrann injured his hand as he pulled off a great save against Allen Gaels last week and Oskar Moj broke his, last Friday in the game against Carrick. We wish both young keepers a speedy recovery. Thank God we have Luke Bohan to line out in goals for the team in their absence. The panel and scorers against Carrick was, O Moj, D Scott, J Foy, S Duignan,  A Luby, E Duignan,  C Donoghue, J Rowley 0-1, C Keegan 0-1, S Curran 0-2, T McNabola, M Murphy 0-3, C McNamara, S Mulligan, M McDonagh 0-1, H Boyle A Mulligan 0-1, L Flynn, L Bohan, M Tiernan, B Logan, A McGuinness, D Beirne.

Hospice Table Quiz

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who turned up on Friday night to support Katherine Lynch’s Fundraiser for the Irish Hospice Foundation. The Club organised the Quiz to help Katherine on her way. Thanks to all who donated money and spot prizes, our excellent quizmaster Sean Reynolds and Beirne’s Bar for hosting the night. A total of €1600 was made for the Hospice. Best of luck to Katherine and her friends on the Camino walk at the end of September.

Senior Relegation

Gortletteragh ran out deserving winners in a close and at times exciting Relegation semi-final in Carrigallen on Saturday evening last. Our neighbours made the better start and enjoyed a 0-3 to 0-1 lead before a period of good Bornacoola pressure culminated in a goal from the penalty spot – Sean Mc Keon dispatching confidently to the Gortletteragh net. However Gortletteragh responded almost immediately when Jack Heslin cut through the defence to restore their lead with a goal of his own. At half time, we trailed by three points (1-7 to 1-4). The Bors dominated long periods of the second half, but failed to turn their dominance into scores. Nonethless with just ten minutes remaining, the Bors had deservedly pulled level (1-8 apiece) and the game was anyone’s for the taking. Gortletteragh though would finish the stronger, scoring four points to a solitary Bor response and clinching a 1-12 to 1-9 victory. Our senior championship schedule will complete in a fortnights time, as it begun, with a winner takes all clash against neighbours Annaduff for the right to play Senior Championship football in 2017.  Team on duty was Mark Mc Closkey, David Mulligan, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, , Damian Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Allan Croghan, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Cloksey, Brian Conroy, Sean Mc Keon, Ollie Vaughan, Ronan Mulligan, Damian Moran and Philip Howard. Subs used were Liam Mulligan, Shane Conroy and Trevor Howard

Golden Goal Mayo will aim to end 66 years of hurt when they face Dublin in this year’s All Ireland final on Sunday next and we will once again be running a Golden Goal competition for the big game – the first prize of €500 will be paid to the person who purchases the ticket with the correct time in which the first goal will be scored in the final. Tickets will be going on sale shortly from Club members at €5 each for which you are randomly allocated four specific times. The more times you enter, the better chance you have of winning. Best of luck!

Division 2 This Saturday evening we face Sean O Heslins in Ballinamore in a game that will have a 6pm throw-in. Our best wishes to Allan Croghan who suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury on Saturday – hopefully Allan will be back in action before too long.

Intermediate Championship:

Our seniors had a good win over Ballinaglera in the quarter final of the intermediate championship in Aughavas last Saturday evening. We got off to a blistering start and, inspired by an outstanding Eoin Ward, we led by 2-06 to 0-04 at half time. Things got even better in the second half when a third Eoin Ward goal left us eleven points ahead. However, Ballinaglera responded immediately with a goal of their own and scored an additional three unanswered points to leave just five between the teams. The crucial moment of the game came with six minutes to go when Enda Lyons brilliantly saved a Ballinaglera penalty when all the momentum was with the North Leitrim men. Two points from Colm Kiernan and Ciaran Flynn in the last three minutes of the game put the result beyond doubt. Final score: Carrigallen 3-10 Ballinaglera 1-10. We now progress to the semi final where our opponents will be Aughnasheelin. Team & scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Barry Nash, David Reilly, Darran Reilly, Barry Dolan, Barry Reilly, Eoin Ward (3-05) Gary Reilly, Ciaran Kenny, Daniel Lyons, Gerard McDermot (0-1), Marc Dolan (0-1), Ciaran Flynn (0-2) & Colm Kiernan (0-1). Subs: Thiernan O’Rourke for Marc Dolan, Matis Polis for Gerard McDermott and Andrew McManus for Ciaran Kenny.

U13 Championship:

St Josephs U13’s overcame Dromahair in the semi final of the 13-a-side championship on Sunday in Carrick-on-Shannon after a closely fought encounter and have now qualified for the final where our opponents will be Fenagh. A strong first half performance laid the foundations for the win on a scoreline of St Josephs 1-13 Dromahaire 1-4. Well done to both teams for producing a good game in difficult weather conditions. Best of luck to the lads in the final.

U17 Championship:

St. Joseph’s U17’s are away to Sean O’Heslin’s on Saturday at 12 noon.
St. Joseph’s Ladies:

Well done to to St. Joseph’s Ladies who fought back to earn a deserved draw in the senior championship final in Pairc Seain last Sunday. Best of luck in the replay girls.

Seniors: Ballinaglera’s championship campaign came to an end on Saturday evening against Carrigallen on a score line of Carrigallen 3-10 Ballinaglera 1-10. Team and scorers: Conor O’Brien, Rory Mc Partland, Brendan Mc Gourty, Padraig Clarke, Patrick Mc Grail, Tomas Cornyn, Padraig Cornyn, Enda Maguire (1-4), Seamus Mc Govern, Seamie Mc Morrow (0-5), Luke Bradley, Gerard Clarke, Fergal Wynne (0-1), Barry Maguire, Wayne Reynolds, Colm Maguire, Ciaran Cornyn, Anton Mc Gourty, Niall Mc Gourty, Ryan Crawford, Shane Mulvey, Barry Gilmartin, Hugh Gilmartin, Oisin Mc Gourty, Gerard Mc Gourty, James Mc Dowell, Philip Mc Gourty, John Crawford. While the championship is over, the season is not as there is still a league final to contest at some point this year so keep working hard lads.

Senior Championship

It was another impressive victory on Saturday evening this time in Drumkeerin for the senior lads, against Gail na Meilge, the lads were very impressive building up a great lead in the first 20 minutes of the game and went in at half time fully in control with a score of 2:07 to 0:04. Gail na Meilge improved in the second half with 8 scores against our 6, it was not enough and we saw out the game winning by a score of 2:13 to 0:12. The win left Ballinamore finishing the group on maximum points. Well done to all the lads hey put in a great performance all over the pitch.

Next Saturday sees us take to the field for a quarter final tie against Dromahair in Pairc Sean, this promises to be a tough match against a team that showed their quality last week when they defeated Annaduff who were probably favourites to progress. When you reach this stage of any competition it can go either way and despite people trying to lay down the favorites tag on Ballinamore when you reach a knockout stage it’s all down to the day and the bounce of the ball.

It’s at this time that we really need to get behind the lads and hopefully as many of you as possible travel to Carrick to cheer the lads on to a very hoped-for victory!!!

Junior A Championship

The Junior A lads were in action on Sunday against Gortletterage in Aughavas in a quarter final tie and like their senior colleagues they put in a great performance as well winning by a score of 0:18 to 1:12 in a very close and hard-fought match.

The Mammy !!!

Well done to Breege McGovern  proud Mammy who was seen in action on Jeff and Kammy’s journey to Croker on Monday gone. Breege put in mighty performance for the lads and was an inspiration to all the other mammy’s out there. To see Breege in action you can follow the link on our Facebook page.
