Club notes – 30/08/17

Intermediate championship:

Our seniors travelled to Cloone last Sunday morning to take on Kiltubrid in round 4 of the intermediate championship. The early exchanges of the 1st half saw both sides swap points before Carrigallen took control of the game mid way through the 1st half with a well executed Eoin Ward goal after great work from Gerald Percival in the build up. However, we failed to build on our advantage, allowing Kiltubrid back into the game and trailed by a single point at half time. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Carrigallen building a 4 point lead thanks to points from Gerald Percival (2) and Ciaran Flynn and an Eoin Ward penalty after some great work from Daniel Lyons. This left us 4 points up with 13 minutes to play. However, we failed to score for the remainder of the game and Kiltubrid scored 4 unanswered points to draw the game. Final score: Carrigallen 2-10 Kiltubrid 1-13. Team & scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Darren Reilly, David Reilly, Barry Reilly, Barry Dolan, Daniel Lyons, Brian O’Rourke, Gary Reilly, Marc Dolan, Eoin Ward (2-0), Gerard McDermot, Gerard Percival (0-6), Ciaran Flynn (0-3) & Ciaran Kenny. Subs: Colm Kiernan for Gerald Percival; Matis Polis for Brian O’Rourke; Barry Nash for Ciaran Kenny & Derek Reilly for Marc Dolan.
Our final group game in the championship is against Glenfarne in Drumkeerin next Saturday at 6:45pm.

A huge congratulations to Carrick Area U10 boys who won The All Ireland Community Games Final in Abbotstown on Saturday last.  They played two very competitive games beating Clane by a goal in the semi-final and then going on to beat St. Patricks from Cavan by 2 points in the final. This talented group of boys had representatives from St. Mary’s, Leitrim Gaels, Annaduff, Allen Gaels and Shannon Gaels and have shown a huge level of commitment over the last number of months and this would not be possible without the encouragement and support from their parents which has been evident throughout.

Thank to everyone who travelled to Abbotstown on Saturday last to support the boys and to watch them bring home another Community Games All Ireland Title to Leitrim. Thanks also to all those who came out in large numbers to welcome the boys home and to make it a very memorable and special occasion for them, one they will never forget.  Commiserations to St. Patricks whom we beat in the final, they too are a very talented group of young boys with a bright future ahead of them.
