Club Notes – 22/08/17

Junior Championship:
Our juniors played Allen Gaels in Round 2 of the Junior “A” Championship in Ballinamore last Saturday. It was very much a game of two halves with Carrigallen, assisted with the wind at their backs in the first half, enjoying a commanding 2-12 to 0-03 half time lead. However, Allen Gaels dominated the early exchanges of the 2nd half, scoring 7 unanswered points, before a Colm Kiernan goal put the game beyond any doubt. Final score: Carrigallen 3-14 Allen Gaels 0-11. Team and scorers: Darren Kenny, Evan O’Connell, Maris Polis, Conor Gray, David Percival, Ciaran Reilly, Ciaran Gray, Ciaran Kenny, Gary Reilly (0-1), Sean McCabe (0-3), Gerard McDermott (1-0), Eamon Dolan (0-1), Ciaran Kellegher (0-3), Colm Kiernan (1-4) & Conor O’Neill (1-2). Subs: David Reilly for Conor Gray and JP McManus for Ciaran Gray.

Intermediate Championship:
Our seniors have an early start next Sunday morning when they take on Kiltubrid in round 4 of the championship in Cloone at 11am. Please support.

U17’s:
St. Joseph’s U17’s were defeated by Mohill last Monday evening in Mohill. We competed well, but conceded goals at critical periods during the game enabling Mohill to keep us at arms length throughout. Final score: Mohill 3-15 St. Joseph’s 2-11.

U15’s:
St. Joseph’s U15’s had a hard fought draw against St. Mary’s in the championship last Thursday evening in Carrigallen. Despite having the advantage of the breeze in the 1st half, we trailed St. Mary’s by 2 points at half time. However, a more determined second half effort saw us leading by 1 point heading into injury time, only for St. Mary’s to snatch a draw at the death. Final score: St. Joseph’s 3-08 St. Mary’s 0-17

U12’s:
St Josephs U12s took part in Mohill Festival tournament on Saturday. In the group stage we recorded a win over Drumlish and defeats against Ballinamore and Mohill. We then had a win against Gortletteragh in the shield semi final which put us into shield final against Allen Gaels. The lads gave their all in the final but unfortunately lost out by the narrowest of margins. Thanks to Mohill for the invite and hospitality on the day.

Sympathy:
We are saddened to learn of the tragic passing last week in Florida, USA of Kelly Rooney Leonard. We extend our sympathy to Kelly’s mother Jacqui, father David Leonard, her step father Eamon Quinn and her brothers Kevin and James. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam dílis.

It was always a pleasure to drop in to Bredins where a friendly word and welcoming smile from Eileen, Kitty or Carmel greeted one and all. For instance, a number of years ago Arthur and Eileen along with the Market Bar co-sponsored our annual Golf Classic to the tune of €1,500 and Bredins was an outlet for club merchandise and tickets for club events and a supplier of club trophies and medals . We wish them the very best for the future and sincerely thank Eileen and Arthur not alone for the support they gave our club but for the wider contribution they made to the life of our community.
