Senior Championship

Annaduff: 2-10(16)
Drumreilly: 3-10(19)

Our third outing in the senior championship started brightly in the sunshine in Ballinamore on Saturday but ended in a loss to Drumreilly. Drumreilly opened the scoring with two points which were cancelled out by two Sean McNabola scores and only some fine work by the Drumreilly keeper prevented Annaduff scoring an early goal. Alan Glancy gave Annaduff the lead on the quarter of an hour mark and this was followed by two more Drumreilly points. On the 16 minute a fine Annaduff move involving Eoin, Alan and Gavin finished with the ball in the back of the net and Sean Mc on an streacher. The half finished with two Drumreilly goals, one walked into the net and one from the penalty spot. In to the closing ten minutes, Drumreilly led by seven points and Annaduff helped by a penalty coversion from Alan narrowed the difernce to a goal but time ran out before the gap could be bridged.

Annaduff: Jim McCormack, Garry Bohan, Dean Gill, Dermot Reynolds  (Capt), Hugh Moylan, Aaron Duignan, Mattie Cox, Keith Duignan, Kenny Cox, Gavin O Brien (1:0), Eoin Gill (0:2), Conor Reynolds, Sean McNabola (0:2), Frank McNabola, Alan Glancy (1:1). Subs Used: Dillon Keane (0:1), Ray Cox (0:4), David Duignan, Chris Farrell.

U13s

U13s travelled to Mohill in round 5 of the 15 a-side Championship. Mohill  hit back with 3 unanswered points before the break to leave the sides level Annaduff 1-04 Mohill 0-07. The second half started with a Mohill point followed by a great goal from Darren another Mohill goal to leave the sides close again in the first 10 mins of this half. Annaduff did edge ahead with a goal from Tommie but was cancelled out 2 mins later by a Mohill goal. Mohill  scored  4 unanswered points to leave them in contention for the win. The home side finishing a great close contest Mohill 4-13 Annaduff 4-08 Team; Cian Dockery, Kyle Russell, Eoghan Ridge, Mel Fitzpatrick, Daniel Lyons, Craig McGuinness, Adam Maxwell, Niall Quigley(0-1), Tommie Taylor(1-0), Senan Mooney(1-2), Darren Cox(1-4)(3f), Eamonn Healy(0-1), Jack Higgins,  Nathan Cox(1-0), Callum McCormack,

Connacht Gold Senior Championship

It was another good performance by the seniors in Cloone this time against Aughawillian our old adversaries. Having won our first two championship games, it was certainly another important match especially when it’s our long-term adversaries and neighbours, victory would ensure our quarterfinal berth and banish memories of the league defeat. The lads started well playing some excellent football with no shortage of skill and power. The high tempo start from the lads was to much for Aughawillan and in the space of the opening 10 minutes we were leading by a score of 1:4 to no score, with Niall McGovern scoring a cracking goal, Ballinamore continued to push forward winning the majority of knockdowns and 50/50 balls with their controlled football leading to another excellent goal this time for Paddy. The good football was to continue and the lads went in at half time leading by 2:08 to 0:3. The second half started differently with a renewed Aughawillan taking to the field and showing why they were county champions , they went on to kick 5 unanswered scores at the start and were certainly much improved on the first half. Keelan McHugh grabbed an important third goal for Ballinamore and the game ended with a great victory by a score of 3:11 to 0:13

Pyramid Bookmakers Junior A Club Championship

Our Junior A lads also put in a great performance at the weekend beating Kiltubrid by a score of 2:17 to 3:08

Ballinamore Festival

Well done to Aobhinne Boyle and the u14 Girls Leitrim Team who officially opened this year Family festival on Sunday gone. The rain stayed away and they helped launch this years packed calendar which includes a number of GAA related events such as the over 40’s football which should give the youngsters a glimpse of some of the stars of the past and the Childrens Blitz which is on this Thursday at 1600. One of the new events this year was Ballinamore Ninja style which was on Monday night and had teams from all the local GAA clubs taking part in a very fun and exciting event- there will be more heats over the coming week and this mini county championship is not to be missed. Special thanks must be given to the festival committee and all the organisers who give up their time to organise this brilliant week of entertainment and we would like to thank them all

Mohill August 16th

All in all it was a good week for football in Mohill with Seniors, Intermediates, Under 15, Under 13 winning and Under 17s just beaten by a point. Seniors had to battle hard but dealt well with Gortletteragh’s strong defensive game. The very young intermediate side, six points down at half time came of age in the second half and Kiltubrid found it hard to deal with their speed and fitness.

Under 15

Leitrim Gaels were the opposition and in a very fast game we won the laurels but with a cost, our star free taker Conor Mulligan broke his leg and will be out of football for a while.  The panel and scores was. S Moran, F Cassells, G Reynolds, N McNabola 0-1, B Donoghue, L Ellis, D Duignan 2-1, C Quinn 1-0, S Bohan, A McCrann 0-1, K Curran 0-3, C Mulligan 0-5, C Keegan, T McNabola 0-1, J Murphy.

Under13

These lads played a great game against Annduff. It was a heroic display by both teams, fortunately the Mohill lads won in the end but it could have gone either way. The panel and scorers was: O Moj, S Duignan, D Scott, A McGuinness, E Duignan, J Rowley, M Tiernan , C Donoghue, J Foy 0-1, C Keegan 1-3, C McNamara, T McNabola 1-2, M Murphy 1-8, S Curran 0-1, C Donoghue, D Casey. Subs all used, A Mulligan, A McCrann, L Flynn, B Logan, A Lubey, L Bohan, H Boyle.

Under 17 Championship

This was another great game, but Melvin Gaels edged our boys out by 1 point. The team was: S Moran, F Cassells, J Murphy, N Keegan 0-2, J McGuiness 0-1, S Bohan, C Quinn, P ONeill 0-1, J Reynolds 0-9, J Boyle, M Tiernan 0-1, T Doherty, D McCrann, N Lennon, N McNabola 0-1,

Senior Championship

A hugely exciting Senior championship victory over Glencar/Manorhamilton in Shane Mc Gettigan Park on Saturday evening last got our campaign back on track after the disappointment of two early defeats in our group. After a promising start from Manor in which they dominated possession but squandered some decent chances, the Bors took over as the first half progressed and two goals, from Damian Moran and Philip Howard, as well as a series of excellent points put the Bors in a commanding half time position, 2-9 to 0-4 in front. It was a resurgent Manor as the second half begun and the early dismissal of Michael Duignan reducing Bornacoola to 14 players, aided their cause as they clawed back the lead with the aid of the breeze, eventually reducing it to just three points as the game entered its closing stages. However, a terrific point from Liam Mulligan only four minutes from time (Bornacoola’s first of the half) broke a run of 8 unanswered Manor points and steadied the Bornacoola ship. Manor again responded, but a late Philly Howard effort ensured the Bors hung on for an important 2-11 to 0-13 victory. We still need to win the remaining two games in the group – against Dromahair and Drumreilly – to have a chance of progressing to the quarter finals. Team on Saturday evening was Mark Mc Closkey, Brian Duffy, Jason Conroy, David Mulligan, Shane Conroy, Conor Mc Cauley, Liam Mulligan, Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, Damian Moran, Sean Mc Keon, Allan Croghan, Philip Howard, Ollie Vaughan, Trevor Howard. Subs used were Damien Mc Guinness, Brian Conroy and Ronan Mulligan

Club Notes – 16/08/17

Intermediate Championship:
Our seniors played Leitrim Gaels in round 3 of the championship in Drumshanbo last Sunday afternoon. Despite missing a number of players, our lads got off to a blistering start with two Colm Kiernan points either side of a Eoin Ward goal giving us a 1-02 to 0-01 lead after 6 minutes. An uncharacteristic mistake from Enda Lyons gave Leitrim Gaels a foothold in the game and at halftime time they lead by 2 points, 1-05 to 1-03. Both sides continued to exchange points in the 2nd half but a converted Gerard Percival penalty in the 9th minute of the 2nd half proved to be the crucial score. Leitrim Gaels immediately replied with 3 points in as many minutes but our lads kept going and scored 4 further points to hold out for a 1 point win, despite relentless pressure in the last 5 minutes. Final score: Carrigallen 2-09 Leitrim Gaels 1-11. Team and scorers: Enda Lyons, Anthony Kenny, Darren Reilly, David Reilly, Danny Lyons, Barry Dolan, Ciaran Kenny, Brian O’Rourke, Eoin Ward (1-01), Gary Reilly (0-01), Gerard McDermot (0-01), Marc Dolan, Colm Kiernan (0-02), Ciaran Flynn and Gerard Percival (1-04). Subs: Andrew McManus for Gerald Percival. Our next game is against Kiltubrid the weekend after next.

U13’s:
St Joseph’s U13s continued their recent good run in the championship with a win over Kiltubrid in Aughavas on Thursday evening. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, we were two points down at half time on a scoreline of St Joseph’s 2-02 Kiltubrid 1-07. We were fortunate to be as close as we were at this point as our first half performance left a lot to be desired with many misplaced passes and overall lack of energy contributing to a disappointing opening period. The second half was much better as the lads upped their work rate and with the wind at their backs were able to run out winners on a somewhat misleading final score of St Joseph’s 7-13 Kiltubrid 1-11. Well done to both teams and the referee. Next game is away to Drumkeerin, date tbc.

Glencar Manorhamilton Club Notes w/c Monday 14 August 2017

Sympathy

Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club, its officers, players, members and supporters join in the many expressions of grief on the untimely death of Patrick Murphy in Boston, USA. Our memories of Pat are very real, of a player who always gave of his best when representing Glencar Manor and of a valued and extremely popular personality, both in the club and in the local community. Since news of Pat’s death broke, there has been an outpouring of heartfelt grief from all who had the pleasure of knowing him, particularly among his many, many friends and footballing peers in the Mullies and Manorhamilton area, all of whom are struggling to come to terms with his passing. Stories and anecdotes are recounted of a charming, pleasant, friendly and in-offensive character, with an absolutely bubbling personality.  His friends organised a Remembrance Mass last Monday evening, 14th August in Mullies Church, timed to coincide with his funeral mass in Boston. Large numbers attended this poignant service, to join hands in spirit with Pat’s family and friends in Boston.  The club extends sincere sympathy to the Murphy Family and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

U12 Community Games

Best of the luck to the U12 Manorhamilton Area Community Games team who contest the All Ireland Finals in Abbotstown Dublin this weekend. The girls have played fantastic football to reach this stage of the competition and we hope they can go all the way.  Thanks to everyone who has supported the girls on their journey – the people in Manorhamilton for supporting the bucket collection, their main sponsors MCI Ltd and other local businesses who have supported the girls; Killasnett Co Op, SuperValu and McPartland Fuels.

Ireland

Best of Luck to club representative Ailbhe Clancy who represents Ireland in the 2017 World University Games in Taiwan from August 19th to 30th.

Leitrim Ladies

Best of luck to Leitrim Ladies and their management team who contest the All Ireland Quarter Final against Tyrone this Saturday in Pairc Sean. In particular we send our best wishes to our club representatives Melissa Hewitt and Dearbhla Rooney.

This week also sees the competition commence for the U16 ladies as they play Mohill this Sunday morning at 11am in the Bee Park.  Both teams are hoping to kick off their 2017 seasons with a win after months of hard work. Best of luck to Neil, Marie and the girls

Club Football Camp

A whopping 140 children attended our Annual Club Camp from Monday to Wednesday of this week in the Bee Park.  They all had a great time under the watchful eyes of our wonderful volunteer coaches who are a credit to their families and our club.

Championship

Hard luck to our senior team who were defeated in Round 3 of the Connacht Gold Leitrim Football Championship by Bornacoola in Drumshanbo on Saturday.  A dominant first half performance by the Bors which seen them take an 11 point lead into the dressing room proved our downfall and despite a spirited and commanding second half performance by our lads they could not bridge the gap.  Finalscore 2-11 to 0-13.  Our Junior A team were flying on all cylinders in their Round 2 championship win over Gortletteragh in Ballinamore on Sunday.  Final Score: 3-21 to 1-7.  The win has qualified them for the quarter finals where an open draw will decide their opposition.  Well done to the team.  Our Junior B team take their maiden voyage in the Championship versus Leitrim Gaels this Saturday at 7pm in Ballinamore.  We wish the team and management the very best of luck.

Underage Championship
