Senior Championship

Annaduff: 1-11(14)  GlencarManor: 1-13(16)

We continued our senior championship campaign in Drumshanbo on Saturday against GlencarMannorhamilton. Annaduff opened the scoring with two points from Sean McNabola but GlencarManor scored the next four without reply to put them 4 to 2 up on the quarter of an hour mark. Sean Mc continued to impress over the next ten minutes with a goal and two points to bring the sides level with half time approaching, another single exchange, ours from Alan Glancy saw the sides level at 1:5 a piece at the interval. The second half continued at the frantic pace of the first and Annaduff increased the variety of scorers, Alan, Frank, Eoin, Kenny and Sean Mc all registering. With normal time expired both sides were deadlocked at 1:11 each however GlencarManor put over two points in the 4 minutes of extra time to take the spoils.

Annaduff: Jim McCormack, Garry Bohan, Dean Gill, Dermot Reynolds  (Capt), Hugh Moylan, Aaron Duignan, Mattie Cox, Keith Duignan, Kenny Cox (0:1), Gavin O Brien, Eoin Gill (0:1), Conor Reynolds, Sean McNabola (1:6), Frank McNabola (0:1), Alan Glancy (0:2). Subs Used: James Cox, Matthew Reynolds.

Family Fun Day 2017:

The Clubs 4th annual fun day takes place in its usual slot on Sunday next, the 13th of August from 2pm to 6pm.  By now most people will be aware that in association with Tesco Carrick on Shannon, our charity partner this year is the North West Hospice.  We are greatly indebted to everyone who lends support to this day in so many ways, and what began as a family day has grown into a wonderful Community event for this and surrounding areas. Hopefully the weather will be kind and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Tickets for the fun day draw are on sale at the moment, and are available from any Club Official, Club Coach , or can be purchased at Tesco in Carrick-on-Shannon.   As people will know the prizes are well worth winning, and the draw will take place in Coxs Steakhouse on the night of the 13th of August.

New attractions;

Along with all of the old favourites, we welcome Coaches from the Leitrim Hurling Board to this year’s Fun Day.  They will be giving expert coaching to the children taking part in the Blitz’s, and hopefully will have a few treats to share with the kids.  Hurling is definitely growing in popularity in this area, and it’s great to see more and more  youngsters from Annaduff linking in with our neighbours in  St. Marys Hurling Club.

We are also grateful to Sgt. Ronan Mooney, for organising a Garda Display and advice stand at the fun day.  This stand will cover Road Safety, Crime Prevention advice, as well as many other Garda related  issues

Book Sale

Great response to the used book appeal and we are now in a position to sell off thousands of quality used books at the fun day, for rock bottom prices.  Remember next Saturday is the last day for donations,  and the Centre will be open from 10 am to 11.30 am  to accommodate same.

Connacht Gold Senior Championship

It was another good performance by the seniors in Cloone this time against Gortletteragh. Having won our first championship game last week, it was certainly another important match and one we needed to win with the games coming thick and fast. The lads started well with Niall McGovern ending the game with an impressive 2:07, and the lads went in at half time leading by 2:10 to 0:4, the good form continued in the second half with the final score 3:20 to 0:9. It was a good performance all round and good preparation for this Fridays game against Aughawillian. The Willies will certainly offer a sterner test, and after our loss in the league to them it will certainly be one the lads are up for, a great game instore and one not to be missed. Hopefully as many of you as possible will make their way to Cloone to cheer the lads to victory.
Next up for the lads is Aughawillian at 20:30 on Friday in Cloone

Pyramid Bookmakers Junior B Club Championship

Our Junior B lads started their championship campaign on Saturday against Bornacoola and despite a good performance they lost by a point. The final score was 1:13 to 1:12, hopefully the lads will get the win they deserve in their next outing

Well Done

Well done to our u16 boys who played in the Bryan Cullen invitational tournament on Sunday. The lads played very well and only lost out in the Semi finals to Corofin having beaten Clane from Kildare and Dr. Crokes of Kerry in the group stages. The lads certainly showed that there is no shortage of skill or guile in Leitrim football at an underage level. Many thanks to Bryan Cullen and Skerries GAA for hosting this very well ran and fantastic event, special thanks also to the players, mentors, management and parents for giving up their time to make it all happen

U13 Boys

SOH U13 Boys suffered their first championship loss away to Leitrim Gaels last week. In a dogged affair the SOH lads finished on the wrong side of a 4:10 to 1:14 score line. Great credit to both sides in a hard fought encounter with both sets of players giving their all. Next game at home to Gortletteragh on Thursday at 7pm. Squad:
Adam Kaminski , Akin Talabi , Micheal O’Brien, Dara Gavin , Killian Maguire, Colm Gartland Tommy Smith, Cian McGovern, Sam Cullen, Liam Reynolds, Dylan Reynolds, Paul Moran, Thomas Brady, Eoin Connaughton, Oisin McCarty, Cathal McCarty, Gavin D’Arcy, Naoise McManus, Paul Honeyman, Brian Sweeney.

Junior: Well done to our Junior’s who started the championship with a brilliant win over Mohill last Sunday in Cloone. The team lined out with a mixture of youth and vast amounts of experience, the game was tight throughout with some great long range points by John Gilheany and Paul Prior and a goal by Lewis Meakin keeping our noses in front at half time. Two well taken second half goals by Jason Prior gave us a bit of breathing space, Mohill fought back though to level the game, but a monster free kick by Paul Prior with the last kick of the game sealed the victory. It was a great team performance full of heart and determination, well done to all involved. Final Score 3-08 to 0-16.

Senior Championship
We lost out to Aughawillan on Saturday evening in Ballinamore by  2-13 to 0-07. Again this week the scoreline probably doesn’t reflect the match as we were level well into the second half when a couple of injuries had a big bearing but obviously to fade out again is a big worry. We play Melvin Gaels in Pairc Sean on Saturday evening in the next round. Best of luck to Kevin, Paul, Noel, Kevin & the lads.

W/E 6th August 2017
We opened our senior championship with a comprehensive win over the neighbors in Cloone on Saturday. Frank McNabola opened the scoring for Annaduff in the initial minute with a fine point, Bornacoola registered their first point on the fifth minute which was followed by three unanswered quality Annaduff scores from Frank, Eoin and Gavin. The second quarter was probably Borancoola’s best period, outscoring Annaduff by 4 points to 3 during this time but they were still unable to take the lead, an achievement that eluded the Bors over the entire 60 minutes. Annaduff finished the half strongly with points from Gavin, Alan and Dillon, the margin at half time, two. Bornacoola opened the scoring in the second half coming within a point of Annaduff but that would be as close as they would get and the Bornacoola opener was quickly followed by a goal and a point from Alan, the goal coming from the penalty spot. Bornacoola scored the next two to come within a goal of Annaduff with 15 minutes left on the clock but then came a cracking minute from the McNabola brothers, Sean pointing and Frank hitting the back of the net to leave the margin 7 points. Gavin, Sean Mc, Dillon and Ray completed the Annaduff scorecard.

Annaduff: Jim McCormack, Garry Bohan, Dean Gill, Dermot Reynolds (Capt), Dillon Keane (0:2), David Duignan, Mattie Cox, Keith Duignan, Kenny Cox, Gavin O Brien (0:3), Eoin Gill (0:1), Conor Reynolds, Sean McNabola (0:3), Frank McNabola (1:2), Alan Glancy (1:2). Subs Used: Hugh Moylan, Ray Cox (0:1), Noel Ward.

U13s

U13s travelled to Drumshanbo on Thursday last to face Allen Gaels. The home side got off to the better start with a goal and two points before Niall got the Annaduff lads on the score board with a goal in the seventh minute followed by Darren with another a minute later followed by three points from Allen Gaels a goal from Senan and Craig seen the Annaduff lads edge ahead at the break with H/T score Annaduff 4-0 to Allen Gaels 1-06

Annaduff got off to the better start in the second half but wasn’t long before the home side started to chip away at the Annaduff lead but our lads kept going with hard work and great determination to win by three points Annaduff 5-02 to Allen Gaels 1-11 great result against a tough opposition in the Division 1 Championship. We face St Mary’s Carrick this Thursday in Annaduff at 7pm

Team:Cian Dockery, Kyle Russell, Eoghan Ridge, Mel Fitzpatrick, Daniel Lyons, Adam Maxwell, Craig McGuinness(1-0)(f), Tommie Taylor(1-0), Niall Quigley(1-0), Josh Gill, Darren Cox(1-0), Jack Higgins, Eamonn Healy, Senan Mooney(1-1), Callum McCormack, Sub: Nathan Cox, (0-1).

CLOONE GAA NOTES.
WE had a very busy weekend of activities starting on Thursday evening with the historic first ever
Thursday evening game played in the Leitrim championship. It was very interesting to note that this
fixture received notable criticism in the local media. Contrary to the criticism, it has to be applauded
that two clubs in Leitrim can agree to play a championship game on a Thursday night. Well done to
both clubs. The criticism was totally unjustified and came from somebody that didn’t know what
they were talking about. In relation the Author’s family playing with Leitrim, or being asked to play
with Leitrim they will probably follow in the author’s footsteps and continue to play their football in
Dublin. I’m not aware that they are on any inter County manager’s list, but probably Jim Gavin will
have first call. It’s a pity that people who don’t know what they are talking about would refrain from
making a fool of themselves on a subject that they have turned their back on.

CHAMPIONSHIP.
Well done to team on a fantastic performance on Sunday last beating Killtubrid in round two of the
Leitrim Intermediate championship. This was a fantastic result and a credit to everybody involved.
Our next game is on Saturday next V Glenfarne Kiltyclogher on Saturday evening next in Ballinamore.

Bon VOYAGE
We wish the very best to star player Mark Creegan who heads off to Debuai on Friday next. Mark
will be a huge loss to our team and has given everything to the club over the last number of years
Enjoy your travels Mark.

CHAMPIONSHIP. .Another busy championship weekend this week end starting with Ballinamore
