Tony Mc Gowan Run – The 7th annual run takes place on Sunday the 17th of February. This year they are introducing a half marathon run as well as the usual 2.5k, 5k &10k. Leitrim – Well done to Diarmaid and all the Leitrim team and management on a hard-fought victory over Wicklow last Sunday making it two wins from two, hopefully, they can keep it up this Sunday against Antrim in Pairc Sean.

Race Night – The annual Allen Gaels GAA Race night is coming around again and will take place this Saturday 9th February in Conway’s Corner House at 9pm. Horses are now available to purchase so please contact any club officer or adult player, also if any business would like to take out an add in the booklet again please contact any club officer.

Underage Training – Training for u9s & u11s continues on Saturday from 4-5pm in the Sports Complex for the next 5 weeks.

Medal Presentation – The u15 St Brigid’s Boys team who won the League in 2018 & u12 St Brigid’s Girls winners from 2017 & 2018 will be presented with their medal on Saturday 9th February in Aughnasheelin Community Centre at 5pm. It’s a special occasion for our young players and we look forward to marking this special occasion with members of the Leitrim Senior County Panel from our club.

Cards – Games of 25 have resumed on Friday evenings from 8.30-10 at Aughawillan Clubrooms. Come along & bring a friend!

Dinner Dance – TIme to get the glad rags on for the Dinner Dance to honour the first Senior and Junior Championship double in the club’s history!  The dinner dance is being held on Saturday 9th March in the Slieve Russel Hotel. Referees Wanted –  Young people with an interested in GAA are being asked to give refereeing a go! County Team – We thank the County team and Management for lifting our spirits on Sunday last, with an emphatic win over Wexford in the NFL. While we had a star performance from Fenagh’s young Ryan O Rourke all the players can hold their heads high including Mohill’s two men, Shane Quinn and Domhnaill Flynn. Best of luck to the team next weekend when Wicklow is the opposition in Aughrim.

Alan McLoughlin – We wish Alan McLoughlin a speedy recovery following his cruciate repair last week. Alan will be missed for the next few months from the Mohill and Leitrim panels. Alan Armstrong is another of our casualties with a broken arm, so we hope his recovery is rapid also.

Kathleen Reynolds RIP – We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Kathleen Reynolds, Eslin who passed away last week. Kathleen was the grandmother to present underage players Gearóid Reynolds and Cormac White and former player Michael Reynolds. Her granddaughter Cliodhna Reynolds is also an underage physio with the club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.

Opel Sponsorship – We thank Kieran Walpole from Central Motors for the generous sponsorship of training tops for the Under 17s. Opel has been very generous over the years to the underage and we look forward to their continued support.

Registration – We urge every player to pay their registration immediately as they will not be covered by insurance under the new GDPR regulations. Club Draw – Thanks to all who turned up for our first Club Draw of the year on Saturday night last in the Copper Still and indeed to everyone who has purchased their tickets for the year. Scór Sinsear 2019 – Anyone interested in participating in Scór in 2019 is asked to contact Aidan Dockery on 087 4636231 or at aidan.dockery1@gmail.com. The County finals are fixed for Saturday, February 9th and as this year is the 50th anniversary of the commencement of Scór it is hoped to have a good representation from the club to mark this milestone in the history of the competition.

Indoor Football Programme – The club will be running an indoor football programme to enhance ball skills and agility over the coming weeks. The programme starts on Saturday, February 9th and will run for 5 weeks on each Saturday – U7’s from 10.30am to 11.10am, U9’s from 11.15 to 11.55 and U11’s from 12noon to 12.45. U9’s and U11’s can also get involved in the Wednesday programme which will run from Wednesday 20th February for 4 weeks and between 7pm and 8pm each week. Cost is €10 per child for 5 sessions; €15 for 9 sessions; €25 for a family of 3 children for 5 sessions or €35 for a family of 3 for 9 sessions.

Texas Hold Em – The club will be hosting a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker night in the clubhouse on Saturday week, February 2nd. Registration will be from 8pm and play gets under way at 8.30pm. Entry is €20 per player and €10 buy back. Refreshments will be served and there is a 50% pay out on the night.

Membership 2019 – Club Membership for 2019 is now open – Adult Playing Membership (which includes Gym access) is €100 (€40 for Students), Non playing members – €20, and non-playing membership (with gym access fee) – €100. Youth playing membership is €20 per player to a limit of €50 per family. Membership can be paid at any time to Registrar Jason Conroy or Treasurer Brian Mallon.

Charity Presentations – Club Chairman Pat Farrell recently presented Susan Murphy of the Ballinamore Patient Comfort Fund with a cheque on behalf of Bornacoola GAA arising from our Charity game over Christmas. He also presented a cheque to Con Kelly of the Leitrim Lions club arising from the same event. Well done to everyone who supported the game and we wish both charities the very best for the year ahead.

Community Walking Continues – Melvin Gaels Healthy Club Committee is joining up with Operation Transformation, the GAA and the Community, for Ireland Lights Up 2019. A fantastic crowd of over 100 turned out for last week’s walk. The walk continues every Thursday night until February 21. The track will be lit up from 7pm to 8pm and everyone of all ages is asked to come along and join in this free weekly event.

Club Membership – Yearly Club Membership is now due. With that in mind, we will be holding club registration/membership sessions on February 8 and 9. Our first registration session will take place on Friday, February 8, from 8pm to 9pm and will be open to Adult players in the community centre. On the February 9, from 10am to 12pm registration of underage players will take place also at the Community Centre. We can accommodate anyone young or old at either session but if at all possible please attend on the date that applies to you or your family. Tea/Coffee & refreshments will be available at both sessions. National Club Draw – Club draw tickets are on sale and there are some fantastic prizes to be won. Mark on the Park – The support for “Mark on the park” has been excellent so far. Thanks to all who have supported the project so far.
