Annaduff Family Fun Day 2018 – The Annaduff Family Fun Day takes place on the 12th of August next and is entering its 5th year.  It is now an established date in the local diary.  The Committee have been busy putting this years event together and we are sure you will not be disappointed.  As usual over half of the days proceeds are donated to a nominated Charity and this years Charity Partner is Pieta House. We are extremely grateful to the Community in Annaduff and beyond who support this event annually and have helped make it so successful.  This year we will have all of the usual attractions ie. the biggest underage football blitz in Leitrim, Kids games, competitions, entertainments, book sales, cakes sales, hot food,  ice cream,  demonstration stands, and much, much more.  Each year the Committee has built a central theme into the event. This year we will focus on Farm Safety and increasing awareness of same.  As the majority of our patrons young and old are from family farms have access to or interact with farms we feel that the fun day is an ideal platform to remind and educate all, on the dangers farms present in a discreet but impacting manner. The Farm Safety feature will take the form of numerous live presentations and demonstrations, conducted by guest speakers, in a safe and controlled environment.  On the day among others, a sample of our speakers is as follows:

Peter  Gohary –Peter is a nationally recognized authority on Health and Safety.  A native of EyreCourt, Co. Galway, Peter was involved in Construction and Farming, until October 2009 when a farm accident resulted in the loss of one leg, badly damaging the other one and suffering related injuries.  Peter has turned this experience into a positive and since his recovery, he tells his personal story and advises on best practice on farms.  He has appeared on many well-known TV Shows and has featured at The Ploughing, at various top end Agricultural Shows, Exhibitions etc.  His talk and practical demonstration are inspiring and are not to be missed.

Alma Jordan – Agri-kids – Alma hails from Co. Kildare, and in 2014 set up her own business, “Agri Kids” to teach children about Farm Safety.  Her concept is to empower children to absorb the dangers around them and a fun and real manner.  She does same by interactive educational presentations, reading, colouring, etc,  All of which are designed to change safety attitudes at a young age and build safer futures on farms. Alma will be situated in the Community Centre on the day and will work with the various groups of primary school children present.  In conjunction with her presentation, the pupils of Annaduff National School have been busy drawing Farm Safety Posters and their entries will be displayed in the Centre and will be judged by Peter and Alma on the day.

More details will be issued in due course. We will also be looking for volunteers for the big day, keep it in mind folks.

Ladies Senior League Champions –  Congratulations to our Senior Ladies team who captured the Division One Ladies League title for the first time in the club’s history last Sunday.  In an enthralling encounter in Leitrim Village the Manor ladies faced stiff opposition in near neighbours St Patrick’s Dromahair. The recent weather ensured optimum conditions for a fast-paced game and the large crowd of supporters from both sides enjoyed an extremely lively game. Dromahair dominated proceedings for the first 15 minutes of the game before the Manor side found their stride which saw goals for Muireann Devaney, Ailbhe Clancy and Leah Fox and ensured a 7 point lead at the interval for the Manor girls. The second half was equally tense, with tenacious tackling in defence, fantastic work rates from midfield and half forwards and a constant threat in front of goals from the Manor side. With the aid of two penalties, Dromahair narrowed the gap, however, some terrific point taking saw the Manor girls capturing the cup on a scoreline of 3-14 to 4-7. Team captain Karen Connolly accepted the cup on behalf of the Glencar Manor Ladies who were managed by Shane Devaney, James Glancy, Eamon Devaney and Dessie McNulty.  Thanks also to the ladies main sponsors McPartland Oils/Sligo Fuels and MacManus Pharmacy.  Attention now turns to the Senior Championship which commences next weekend with Manor having a bye in the first round.  Panel: Alva Sheridan, Rebecca Rooney, Cammie Kennedy, Michelle McNulty, Aoife Gilmartin, Karen Connolly, Annette Ferguson, Dearbhla Rooney, Melissa Hewitt, Roisin Rooney, Ailbhe Clancy, Orlaith Kelly, Siobhan Feely, Leah Fox, Muireann Devaney, Emma McLaughlin, Amanda Sweeney, Laura McCann, Chloe Rooney, Aisling Faulkner, Tara McLaughlin, Aoife Feeney, Laoise Clancy, Eimear O’Connor, Mairead Clancy, Emma O’Hagan, Niamh Feely, Rebecca Rooney, Sarah McGloin, Eimear Feely, Eadaoin Clancy, Mary Broughton, Alaine McPartland, Kate Johnston.

Dunnes Bar Division 2 – It’s been a busy week for the team & management with two games in 4 days. We travelled to Drumreilly last Wednesday evening and after a titanic battle emerged with a share of the spoils on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-14 in a cracking encounter. We led 1-10 to 1-07 at the break and with Caleb Duffy in imperious form were looking good for the points but a late goal for the home side earned a draw. Our scorers were: Caleb Duffy 3-06 (4f); Thomas Mulvey 0-02; Martin Beirne 0-02; Shane Walsh 0-02; Martin Raftery 0-01; Diarmuid McKiernan 0-01. On Sunday morning we had a home game against Glencar Manorhamilton and after another high quality game we came out on top on a scoreline of 3-10 to 0-13. Again this was a great battle and if Manor had converted some goal chances then it would have been a closer affair. We led 1-06 to 0-05 at the interval with Bryan Beirne finding the roof of the net in the 4thminute. Martin Beirne scored a goal in the 35th minute with a great finish from a tight angle and Thomas Mulvey secured the points when he coolly slotted home in the 52nd minute. Scorers: Martin Beirne 1-07 (5f); Thomas Mulvey 1-01; Bryan Beirne 1-00; Caleb Duffy 0-02. Best of luck to the squad & management in the remaining games as we chase promotion. We are fixed to play away  to Dromahair on Wednesday evening at 8:30pm and at home to Annaduff on Saturday, the two teams above us in the table. This means we have to play 4 games in 10 days which is a very big ask of players at this time of year with lads having to travel for 2 consecutive Wednesday night games. If the Fixtures Committee feel this is a reasonable situation then all clubs should have to play the same schedule and this is not the case!
