Referee Foundation Level.

Due to the very poor response from clubs we have no option but to postpone the Foundation level referee course planned for this Friday evening. We would appeal once more to all clubs to forward names of those within their club who would like to try their hand at refereeing or to any others not attached to clubs, to Thomas Keenan 087-6591049 or Seamus Prior 086-6016086 within the next few days. The delay in commencing this course is very unfair on those who have already submitted their names.

Under 13 skills development.

Due to events outside our control we have no option but to postpone the under 13 skills development day planned for this Saturday. We will advise all players who took part in last years under 12 skills days of the new date through their clubs and through our local media. Seminar – Developing a winning mentality.
I would like to thank all who helped us with this seminar and the SportTracker road show on Wednesday night last. This was a fantastic evening in the company of double All – Ireland winning Managers, Mickey Harte and Pete Mc Grath. GAA coaches from Roscommon and Sligo joined with the large number from Leitrim to engage with both speakers on a range of topics. Seminar – Developing a winning mentality.

We would ask all club officers, coaches and players of all ages to come along this evening, Wednesday 27/02 to the Bush hotel at 7.30 pm. In conjunction with Sport tracker, we will have three All Ireland winning Managers visiting Leitrim. Mickey Harte, current Tyrone senior football team Manager, Brian Cody current Manager of the Kilkenny senior hurling team and Pete McGrath, Manager of the All Ireland winning Down team and former Ireland Manager.
All three will be in Leitrim to launch the new Sport tracker player diary and team analysis books. Both the diary and the analysis books have been endorsed by the GAA at national level and are aimed at club players as well as Inter County players. Following the launch of the Sport Tracker system, Mickey Harte will speak on the topic "Developing a winning mentality" which should be of interest to all clubs and coaches in the County. At the conclusion of the presentation by Mickey there will be a question and answer session and also a chance to discuss the Sport Tracker player diary and analysis books. Everyone involved with GAA in the County should not miss this opportunity to meet and chat with three of the great Managers of our time.

SportTracker which has received the official endorsement of the Gaelic Athletic Association is holding a series of FREE ‘road shows’ throughout Ireland to highlight the importance of the TRACKER DIARY and its benefits for team Managers and players at every level.

The Sixth ‘roadshow’ takes place in the Bush Hotel Carrick-On-Shannon Leitrim February 27 2008 at 7.30pm, when Tyrone’s All-Ireland winning Manager Mickey Harte & Kilkenny’s Brian Cody will present the Tracker Diary to club Managers and will then be available for questions and answers with the audience.

The SportTracker range of analysis and statistics books will also be introduced, by the company’s Technical Director and former successful Down and Ireland Manager, Pete McGrath.

This is the first time ever a roadshow of this calibre has ever taken place in Ireland, and SportTracker are inviting all Managers of all grades of football, hurling and camogie (men, women and underage) to attend on the night.

SportTracker’s aim is to partner all GAA teams, Managers, players and administrators, through its range of products.

Prior to Christmas, SportTracker launched the unique Tracker Player Diary’ which is a 200-page book in which double All-Ireland winning Manager Mickey Harte provides his guidance and services to Gaelic footballers, hurlers and camogie players – focusing on club players – throughout the country. This years conference will be addressed by Paudi Butler, National Director of hurling, Colm O’Rourke former Meath all star footballer and panellist on RTE,s The Sunday game, with the final address being given by Ger Loughnane, former Clare hurling Manager and current hurling Manager. Kerry senior football Manager Pat O’ Shea will present a practical workshop on “Creating Scóring opportunities”, with Paudie Butler and Damien Coleman presenting “Integrated fitness for hurling”. Each club should ensure that at least two delegates attend this conference and with a fee of only €30 per delegate including lunch, cost will not be the problem. Foundation Level Coaching course.

The first of our Foundation Level coaching courses for 2008 will take place in Gortletteragh community centre on this Friday evening 08/02 commencing at 7.30pm., with the practical on Saturday 09/02 in Gortletteragh GAA park.

Level one course 2008

All those currently completing the level one course, please note the next session will take place on Monday 11/02 at 8 pm in the Bush hotel.

Referee workshop.

A workshop for all current referees which was postponed last week has been refixed for Friday evening, 15/02 in the Bush hotel. Due to this change the first session for new referees has had to be rescheduled and we will have details of the new dates etc., next week.

Workshop – Integrating ball work and fitness.

A workshop, Integrating ball work and fitness for Gaelic games will be presented by Nicholas Walsh and will take place on Saturday 16/02. See next week’s news for more details.

Connacht coaching conference.

The Connacht coaching conference will take place on Saturday 23rd February in the Mc William Park hotel Claremorris, commencing at 9.30 am. This years conference will be addressed by Paudi Butler, National Director of hurling, Colm O’Rourke former Meath all star footballer and panellist on RTE,s The Sunday game, with the final address being given by Ger Loughnane, former Clare hurling Manager and current hurling Manager. Kerry senior football Manager Pat O’ Shea will present a practical workshop on “Creating Scóring opportunities”, with Paudie Butler and Damien Coleman presenting “Integrated fitness for hurling”. Each club should ensure that at least two delegates attend this conference and with a fee of only €30 per delegate including lunch, cost will not be the problem. Fun Do Resource Pack.

Clubs and coaches are reminded that the new Fun Do packs are available from our offices in Pairc Sean, or by contacting Thomas Keenan 087-6591049. Packs are available for a limited time at the special price of €50 each.

Coaching Calendar 2008

Our coaching calendar for 2008 is now available from our office in Pairc Sean and will also be distributed at all coaching related events, and at the next Coiste na nÓg and senior board meetings. This publication outline’s all our coaching projects, workshops and seminars planned for 2008 and all clubs should ensure that there coaches attend as many of these as possible.

Following a number of inquires in relation to the dates for our 2008 Vhi GAA summer camp’s, the following is the list of dates and venues. Please note new camp in Leitrim Gaels GAA grounds from Monday 21/07/08 to Friday 25/07/08.
