Leitrim Supporters Club Draw 2012

The annual Leitrim Supporters Club tickets have now been fully distributed throughout, not alone the county, but in all areas where Leitrim people are found. The Supporters Club is the lifeline that allows us prepare all our teams in the professional way that is necessary if we wish to compete in a meaningful fashion. This is now the 26th successive year of the Leitrim Supporters Club and Coiste Liatroma greatly appreciates the financial input of our followers and continued support over those years.

This year’s draw takes place on this Sat. night March 24th in Cox’s Steakhouse, Dromod, at 10pm. T.P. and Eileen are indeed the main sponsors of our Draw and would be delighted to see you all there on the night. We take this opportunity to thank them and all our sponsors for their continuous support over many years. Tickets are still available from club officers or any member of the executive. We hope that this year’s draw will surpass all previous draws and we wish all ticket holders the best of luck on the night.

Leitrim GAA Welcome Jobs Retention.

Leitrim GAA welcome the announcement that 650 jobs will be retained at MBNA Carrick-on-Shannon by the acquisition of Apollo (EPF), a fund affiliated with Apollo Global Management . This is very heartening news for the young people of Leitrim especially members of all the clubs who are employed there at present. On behalf of Leitrim GAA we thank all those who worked behind the scenes to retain all those precious jobs and who kept us appraised of developments as talks were progressing. We wish Apollo every success in their new venture in Ireland.

Tweet Tweet

Sincere apologies to all our supporters who couldnt attend last Sundays Allianz Football League game in Pairc Sean against London and who had been trying to follow the match via Twitter. We were updating our Twitter account throughout the match but we only subsequently discovered at the games conclusion that unfortunately, due to a technical problem beyond our control, our Twitter account was not being updated. The situation has (hopefully) now been rectified and our normal service should be available for the remaining matches. Thanks for your understanding and apologies once again for the lack of service.

Leitrim Supporters Club GAA 2012

The annual Leitrim Supporters Club tickets have now been fully distributed throughout, not alone the county, but in all areas where Leitrim people are found. The Supporters Club is the lifeline that allows us prepare all our teams in the professional way that is necessary if we wish to compete in a meaningful fashion. This is now the 26th successive year of the Leitrim Supporters Club and Coiste Liatroma greatly appreciates the financial input of our followers and continued support over those years. Our senior team had a great victory over Carlow last week and are working very hard as they prepare for their remaining games in the League leading up to our championship meeting with London on June 3rd. Our under 21 team face the challenge of Sligo next month in the Connacht Championship and their preparations are very much on target for a successful campaign .All underage teams are in the very capable hands of former county players and a great buzz is evident in all the squads.

The Leitrim Centre of Excellence at Annaduff is now nearing completion and will be up and running by the end of this year. On completion this will be the jewel in the crown and the envy of much bigger counties. Obviously all of these activities require a huge financial commitment from the board and the success of our Supporters Club Draw is paramount to our continued efforts to provide for the ongoing needs of Leitrim GAA.

The Supporters Club Committee under Chairperson Shay Reynolds in Leitrim and Mike Feeney in Dublin are again appealing to your generosity and asking all with the promotion of Leitrim at heart to purchase a ticket and in doing so you will also receive a DVD reliving the highlights of Leitrim GAA activities over the past 26 years and take your chance of winning many of our valuable prizes on offer.

    Fixtures/Results Service

As you are by now aware, there is a technical difficulty beyond our control regarding the excellent fixtures/result service normally available on the website. In the interim, thanks to the hard work of our IT Officer Brendan Doyle, the fixtures/results may be accessed through this link. Apologies once again, but the matter is beyond the control of Leitrim GAA. Hopefully it will be rectified shortly.

    If the glove fits.
Spectators at the Leitrim Allianz League against Limerick last Sunday might have been surprised to notice that players from both teams doing battle on the pitch were sporting pink and blue football gloves.  The unusual sight of players wearing pink or blue gloves during matches was not a fashion statement but rather they were raising awareness and helping to raise €100,000 for Action Breast and Action Prostate Cancer.  Over 960 pairs of gloves were distributed to every county football panel this week in a fundraising initiative between the Irish Cancer Society and the Gaelic Games brand, GaelicPerformance.  Action Breast Cancer and Action Prostate Cancer are programmes of the Irish Cancer Society.  Action Breast Cancer and Action Prostate Cancer services are free, confidential and accessible by calling their Freefone Helpline on 1800 200 700 or by visiting www.cancer.ie.

Hall of Fame for Andy Redican

The Jim Lynch Hall of Fame Award is sponsored by the Leitrim Supporters in Dublin in honour of one of its founding members, and former county player of the 50/60’s Jim Lynch.

This award means a lot to the supporters in Dublin, & to the recipients who are recognized for a lifetime of service and contribution to the GAA. The award also means a lot to the Lynch family.

A native of Fenagh, Andrew Redican moved to Drumkeerin to take up a teaching post in Drumkeerin Vocational School over 40 years ago and since then, has dedicated many of those years to GAA matters in Drumkeerin, Leitrim and Connacht. He first got involved as a coach and games organiser in his Vocational School, acted as a mentor with the County Vocational team and held the position of Chairperson of Leitrim and Connacht Vocational School Boards.

In 1972, Andy was very proud to see Leitrim reach the All-Ireland Vocational Schools Final, having defeated Kerry in the Semi-Final. The Drumkeerin club had lapsed for a number of years in the early 1970’s, but in 1974 was reformed, with Andy Redican playing key roles. Over the years he held the posts of Chairperson, Secretary, P.R.O., Oifigeach Gaeilge; he coached many underage teams to county titles; he managed adult teams, he was a delegate to both Senior and Bord na nÓg boards and co-ordinated Senior Scór and Scór na nÓg; he even tried his hand at refereeing and was a member of the County Board Executive until very recently. He also had the distinction of playing with three different clubs, Fenagh, Taras in London and Drumkeerin.

Andrew was very unselfish with his time and expertise. He chaired the commission that examined the state of football in Leitrim, including Bord na nÓg. He also compiled and produced the history of Leitrim GAA in the 70’s for Scéal Liatroma.

Andy’s contribution to Leitrim GAA was recognized, when he won the Leitrim GAA Club Person of the Year in 1988. Twenty Three years later he is now inducted in to the Jim Lynch Hall of Fame.

It is said – ‘Leaders are needed and everyone who can provide leadership must be prevailed upon to do so’.

Andy Redican is a leader. But he does not have to be prevailed upon to lead. He is a leader of his own volition.

    Comhghairdeas, Andy!
