One Wall Nationals

The One Wall Nationals were played in the Breafy House Sports Arena at the weekend. Jarlath Scollan U17, Paul Flynn U13, Cormac Scollan U15, Darren Wrynne U11 and Alan Wrynne U17, all from Fenagh Handball Club who played in the tournament. In U17 Alan Wrynne was defeated by Corks Michael OMalley, while Jarlath Scollan reached the quarter final where he was defeated by last years winner Tadhg ONeill. In U15 Cormac Scollan reached the Plate Doubles Final with Magomed Yakhyeav, which they lost narrowly to Cahir Monroe and Thomas OConnor. Paul Flynn and Darren Wrynne were both narrowly beaten in their opening games and went on to play in their respective plate competitions.

40×20 Junior Nationals

The 40×20 Junior Nationals were played over the week-end at Galway venues. Cormac Scollan (U15B) reached the last 4 in his section, losing the semi-final to Anthony Carroll (Mallow, Cork) in a tie break 8-15, 15-6, 6-11. Having a bye to the last 16 Cormac got a walk over from Enda Lawless (Galway). He met Philip Doran (Co Down) in the quarter final and defeated him on a score line of 15-5, 14-15, 11-6. Jarlath Scollan (U17) came up against World U17 champion Danial KavanÓgh (Wexford) in the final 16 and was defeated 8-15, 2-15.

Leitrim Senior 40×20 Final

The Leitrim 40×20 Senior Final was played in Drumshanbo at the weekend between Drumshanbos Leo Logan and Fenaghs Jarlath Scollan, with Leo Logan taking the title on a score line of 21-8, 21-16. With a mixture of youth and experience, this was a top class final, with a fantastic display of all the skills of handball. In the first game Logan set down a marker with top class finishing and superb serving to put the game out of Scollans reach. In the second game Scollan took control, and like Logan in the first, surged ahead with some superb kills. Logans greater experience showed and he tied the game at 16 each, before forging ahead to take victory.

Connacht 40×20 Junior Finals

The Connacht 40×20 Junior Finals were played in Collooney on Sunday with Leitrims Barry McDonagh taking the Junior C title with a comprehansive win over Mayos Ronan McNea on a score line of 21-14, 21-3. With a good win in the first game, Barry cruised to victory completely dominating the second match to take the title. There was no joy for Leo Logan in the Junior B Final where he lost out to Diarmuid McDonagh on a score line of 21-10, 21-14.
 
Connacht Juvenile 40×20 Championship
 
There was one semi-final in the juvenile championship played at the weekend, with Fenaghs Cormac Scollan up against Ballymotes Connor Finn in U14 singles, with the Sligo player emerging victorious on a score line of 15-6, 15-8. Fenaghs U14 doubles pairing of Fergal McLoughlin and James Wrynn have a bye to the final to be played this weekend in Newport, Co. Mayo where they take onÓgalways James Cummins and Enda Collins

Connacht 40×20 Championship

Leitrims handballers were in action at the weekend, with semi-finals played in Minor, Junior B and Junior C.
 
In the Minor semi-final Jarlath Scollan took on Diarmuid Mulkerrins (Galway) in Moycullen on Sunday with the Galway man emerging victorious on a score line of 21-14, 21-10. The first game was played at a very high intensity with the lead changing hands several times and both players were locked at 14 each. After a long rally the Galway man prevailed and powered on to close out the first game. Mulkerrins, who also won the All-Ireland U17 Colleges title recently, proved too strong in the second game and secured his place in the minor final.
 
The Junior semi-finals were played in Collooney on Sunday. In Junior B Leo Logan took on Jason Earlis (Sligo) and came away victorious on a score line of 21-19, 21-9. In a very tight first match, where both players served up a great game of handball Leo carved out a victory and dominated the second match to secure a place in the final. In the Junior C semi-final Barry McDonagh took on Sligos Michael Bruen and booked his place in the final with a 21-16, 21-20 win. As the score line suggests both games were very tight, but the Leitrim player kept the momentum from the first game and took the second one by the slimest of margins.

CONNACHT CUMANN na mBUNSCOL FINALS
The Connacht finals were played in Moycullen on Sunday where Ciaran
McMorrow and Ronan Moran (St Patricks NS Drumshanbo) took silver in
the boys U13 Doubles competition. Also taking part were Daniel
McLoughlin, Caoimhe McDermott, Leah Smith and Sarah Wrynn, all U13
singles and doubles (St Caillins NS Fenagh).

CONNACHT COLLEGES FINALS
The Connacht Colleges Finals were played in Moycullen and Invern on
Saturday. Leitrim players taking part were Cormac and Jarlath Scollan,
Ballinamore CS, Evan Foley, Emmet Moran, David Gilmartin and Fergal
Moran, Drumshanbo VS. Galway provided the opposition in the
semi-finals and proved too strong for the Leitrim compeditors.

CONNACHT40X20 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Connacht championship commences this weekend with Jarlath Scollan
(Minor), Martin Raftery (Junior), Leo Logan (Junior B) and Barry
McDonagh (Junior C) all in action. Jarlath Scollan and Martin Raftery
play in Moycullen and Leo Logan and Barry McDonagh are set to play in
Lisacull

Leitrim Cumann na mBunscol 40×20 Finals

The Leitrim finals were played in Drumshanbo on Sunday with children from four schools taking part: St Patricks NS Drumshanbo, St Caillins NS Fenagh, St Manchans NS Mohill and St Josephs NS Aughavas. The winers on the day were Danial McLoughlin U13 (St Caillins NS), Ciaran McMorrow and Ronan Moran U13D (St Patricks NS), Caoimhe McDermott U13 (St Caillins NS), Leah Smith and Sarah Wrynn U13D (St Caillins NS), Luke Bohan and Aidan Mulligan U11D (St Manchans NS), Caoimhe Maguire u11 (St Josephs NS). Paddy McLoughlin U11 (St Caillins NS) had a bye. A special word of thanks to Martin and Joanne Logan who ran off  the finals in a very efficient manner.

The Connacht Colleges 60×30 Semi-Finals were played at the weekend.

Leitrim had 2 players taking part from Ballinamore Community School, Cormac Scollan and David Wrynn. In the Junior semi-final Cormac Scollan defeated Connor Finn (Colaiste Mhuire, Ballymote) pictured above, on a score line of 10-15, 15-12, 15-6.The Connacht finals are set for this Sunday November 15 in Moycullen Co. Galway.

David Wrynn was defeated by Diarmuid Mulkeerins (St Marys Galway) in the Intermediate semi-final.

Connacht 60×30 Championship

This week sees the return of Donal Wrynn to competitive inter county handball action when he teams up with Martin Raftery in the Connacht 60×30 Intermediate Doubles Championship semi-final. This is a formidable combination with Wrynn, who took the  2012 All-Ireland Minor title in 40×20 and Minor Doubles title in 60×30, while Raftery won the 2014 All-Ireland Junior 60×30. They take on a very strong Roscommon pairing of Niall McGrath and Mark Nally in St Comans Roscommon tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 7.30.
     Other Leitrim players in action this week are Leo Logan and Jamie Murray who take on Dennis Creighton and Sean Jennings (Roscommon) in the 60×30 Junior Championship semi-final, and Barry McDonagh who faces Matt Kenny (Galway) in the Junior C Final.

Connacht 60×30 Championship

Leitrim handballers were in action at the weekend when they took on Roscommon opposition in the Connacht 60×30 semi-finals in Minor, Junior and Junior C, with the games played in St Comans in Roscommon on Friday night.
Alan Wrynne was first up in the Minor Semi-Final where he came up against Cathal OConnor. Despite battling hard he lost out on a score line 10-21, 11-21. The Junior semi-final also went the same way with Leo Logan losing out to Dennis Creighton 21-7, 21-17. Barry McDonagh was the only Leitrim player to emerge victorious on the night after he defeated Liam Kelly in the Junior C semi-final 21-6, 21-12. In Junior B Joel Smith is in action tonight (Wednesday) in St Comans roscommon at 8.00pm. Joel is also in action next week-end when he teams up with Barry McDonagh in The Junior B Doubles Championship.
