We would like to invite you to our second annual Ard na Spéire 10km and 4km Run/Walk in memory of the late Sandra Earley. This years event will take place on the 23rd February at 2pm in Kilclare, just outside Carrick on Shannon, County Leitrim.

Sandra was a member of the Kiltubrid Ladies Football club and sadly passed away two years ago from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Last year we held our first annual Ard na Spéire run/walk in her memory in aid of the Heart House at the Mater Foundation and thanks to the huge generosity of the hundreds of people who supported our event we raised over €20,000 for the charity.

This year we are pleased to be supporting a local, very worthwhile charity – Billys World. Billys world Ireland are aiming to build a wonderful adventure theme park for families with children who have special needs and their siblings – a place the whole family can enjoy together. This park is planned for a location just outside Carrick in memory of a special little boy Billy Byrne who sadly passed away on the 24th March last year of a very rare chromosomal disorder, Pallister Killian Syndrome. Please visit www.billysworldireland.com to read about where your money will be going and who will benefit from your donation.

Also keep an eye on our Facebook page for details, and If you are looking for more information, willing to provide sponsorship or give donations please call Anja – 087 1337322 or Micheal 086 3862196

If there is anyone who cannot attend/participate in the Ard na Spéire run on the 23rd February and would like to donate something in memory of Sandra to our chosen charity Billys World please do so by using the link below.

Launch of Leitrim Supporters Club Croke Park 30th Jan 2014

What was probably the largest ever turnout for the annual launch of the Leitrim Supporters Club took place last night in Croke Park. This years Leitrim Person of the Year – the effervescent Eleanor Shanley, ably accompanied by John McCartin – formerly launched our annual fund-raising campaign and while some guy called Gareth Brooks might be appearing at the same venue in July, there is no way Eleanors rendition of “Hard Times- Sad Times Will Come Again No More” will ever be bettered. Our county might be small in numbers but the sense of pride that those of us lucky enough to be in attendance last night in Croke Park experienced is something other more populous counties can only look on with envy. We hope you can be in Páirc Seán next Sunday when we begin our Allianz Football League campaign against Antrim but if not you can follow the match on our Twitter platform. And of course, dont forget to get your Leitrim Supporters Ticket – available through your club. A special word of thanks to all who organised the event – especially Michael Feeney, Colin Regan, Fergal Magill, the Leitrim players and management who made the journey and of course to Declan Darcy, our inspirational 1994 Connacht Champion winning captain who along with our current team captain Emlyn Mulligan spoke of their aspirations and ambitions for Leitrim in the times to come. Liatroim Abú.  Some photographs from the event are available here

PS You can catch Eleanor Shanley in concert tonight in The Glens Centre Manorhamilton

One Connacht title for Leitrim in this years Connacht Scór na nÓg Finals last Saturday in Castlebar. Leitrim thought we were going home empty handed until the final result of set dance when Aughnasheelin were announced the Connacht champions.  Rapturous cheer from the Leitrim supporters for this young team.

In Rince Foirne Bornacoola gave a great performance but the 8 ladies from St Dominics in Roscommon once again danced through to the All-Irelands.

In Solo Singing Louise Gavin from Mayo won the Connacht title seeing off a fabulous performance from Leitrims Sorcha Nic Conmara of St Maryss.

In Instrumental Music, Easkey won the first Sligo title of the evening winning over our St Marys team who performed a very quirky but traditional reel and jig.

Recitation was a very entertaining competition, Patrick Sweeney of Leitrim Gaels, delivered a very smooth rendition of ” the day Leitrim played Croke Park”  but Galways Mark Holohan won the judges vote.

St Marys Ballad Group sang their songs beautifully to an enraptured audience but St Dominics of Roscommon were announced as the winners.

Nuachleas winners were Padraig Pearse of Roscommon, hard luck to the Aughnasheelin team who gave a fantastic performance

Set Dance results was Leitrims highlight with Aughnasheelan winning the Connacht title, ectactic screams of joy from the young team, quite an achievement as it was their first time taking part in set at provincial level.

Leitrim standard of participation was as high as ever this year and no doubt Leitrim Juniors will be back with a bang again in 2015.

The All-Ireland Finals will be held in “Royal Theatre, Travellers Friend on Sat 1st March. Please note it is a ticket only event, tickets are priced at €20 and are non-refundable. they can be ordered through your club officer or Maura Mulvey at 087-6486967,

Wishing the Aughnasheelan set dancers and all of the Connacht winners the best of luck.
