Páirc Seán will host two TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 1 Qualifiers and the Round 4 Qualifer meeting between Donegal and Laois this Saturday 27th July in Páirc Seán MacDiarmada.

TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 1 Qualifiers

Clare v Kildare @ 1.30pm

Donegal v Westmeath @ 3.15pm

Please note extra time will take place in both fixtures if necessary

GAA Football All Ireland Championship Round 4 Qualifier

Donegal v Laois @ 5pm

Spectator comfort at the very popular Páirc Mac Diarmada venue has beenÓgreatly enhanced in recent times.  A particularly important innovation has been the installation of a lift to the upper tiers of the McGovern Stand, which will be of immense benefit to wheelchair users and to others in need of such a facility. The stand itself has been the subject of much praise since its official opening. Spectators will be pleased with the easier access to the grounds through the recent installation of a number of extra turnstiles and also will enjoy more comfortable viewing from the terraces as a result of control barriers having been put in place. Throughout the grounds the toilet facilities have been improved, with a new toilet block just completed, all to add to spectator comfort.  Refreshments are readily available at each corner of the grounds at Snack Shops operated by the local St. Mary’s Club members.  Few grounds can boast of parking facilities to match Carrick on Shannon, including the front car park itself and the surrounding parking areas, while traffic flow to and from games is enabled greatly by the magnificent road system and by the co-operation of An Garda Síochana.

Due to its geographical location, Páirc Mac Diarmada is ideally situated for Qualifier and other games and the ever-improving facilities will be welcomed by GAA fans from around the country.

Leitrim GAA look forward to welcoming the teams and supporters from Clare, Donegal, Kildare, Laois and Westmeath this weekend.

NOTHING WILL BEAT BEING IN PÁIRC SEÁN THIS SATURDAY!

M Donnelly 60×30 Connacht Championship

The 60×30 Connacht Championship kicked off at the weekend with action in Intermediate, Junior B and Minor, with Donal Wrynn, Leo Logan and Shane Doonan in action. Leitrim had home advantage against Galway with the games played in Fenagh on Friday and Saturday evening. First up was Donal Wrynn playing in his first Intermediate Championship against Ollie Conway from Williamstown. The step up from  Minor to Intermediate proved too great for Wrynn as he lost on a scoreline of 12-21,19-21. In the first game Wrynn never got going and trailed Conway from the first serve. The second match went better for Wrynn and he led 19-15 and looked like taking it to a tie break, but he lost serve and Conway closed out the game.

The Junior B semi-final followed with Leo Logan taking on Daniel Connaughton also from Williamstown. In a very tight first match Logan came out on top by a single ace 21-20. Buoyed up from the tight win in the first match Logan pulled ahead in the second and eased out a win on a score of 21-12.

The Minor Semi-Final was played on Saturday evening with Fenaghs Shane Doonan having home advantage over Alan Kilboy from Loughrea. This was Doonans first handball action of the year, but he found his rhythm during the first match losing narrowly 19-21. Having serve in the must win second game Doonan raced ahead and went on to win on a score of 21-6, to force a tie break. Having the most aces Doonan had serve for the tie-break which he used to great effect and eased to victory 21-1.

BACK to BASICS

For Leitrim it is good bye to the All Ireland Championship and back to the more mundane matters of our own club activity.
Saturday was a chastening day for us, a complete contrast to the evening in Markievicz Park, when we captured our first FBD title and eagerly looked forward to the Connacht Championship game in gaelic Park, with another visit to the Big Apple guaranteed for later in the year. On that evening we cheered, applauded, hugged and kissed in euphoric joy. The best, we felt, was yet to come. A spot in the Connacht Final looked within our grasp, but feet were kept on the ground.
Emotions were very different on Saturday in Páirc Seán MacDiarmada when the relief of the final whistle came. There was no back-slapping or eyes on the next day out, but it was good to see so many, kids especially, run on to the pitch to meet the players in the green and gold, because they are still our heroes. Armagh supporters did likewise, but they could bask in their success and wonder who the next qualifier draw would throw up.
The visitors did not go easy on, even when victory was long beyond doubt, they still wanted to rattle the net. But they were playing with a full hand, absences or injuries had not taken a toll like it had with Leitrim. Both sets of players had trained in the same manner, made the same sacrifices and wore their county jersey with pride. Everyone involved with the teams had played their part too. The only difference was on the scoreboard. We should remember that.
Our club championship now looms and the Leitrim players go back into training, no easy task. They gave of their all on Saturday, every last man on the panel. No doubt they will do likewise for their club jersey.

Please Note:  Todays Fr. Manning match between Leitrim and Kildare scheduled for Páirc Seán has been postponed and will be refixed for a date yet to be arranged.
