The death has occurred of Arthur Boyle, late of Keadue, County Roscommon, and formerly of Aghacashel, County Leitrim. Arthur was a former PRO of Coiste Chontae Leitrim CLG during the 1970s and into the early 1980s. He would have made many incisive contributions to Leitrim GAA Yearbooks and other publications of that era in addition to reporting regularly on club matches and activities in the Leitrim Observer. He was famed for his contributions to the very essence of local GAA under the title Grassroots. He also served the board as a club referee and in his playing days, he would have represented Drumkeerin, while stationed there as a popular local Garda.

Arthur will be sadly missed by his much-loved wife Rosaleen, daughters Mairéad and Niamh, sons-in-law, Colm, Hugh and Dan, grandchildren, Doireann, Lucy, and Abigail, sister Bridie, uncle Robbie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, relatives, neighbours, former work colleagues and his wide circle of friends. He will be laid to rest in Kilronan Cemetery, tomorrow, (Wednesday), following a celebration of his funeral mass in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Keadue, at 12 noon.

Leitrim GAA offers its deepest sympathies to all his family on his sad passing.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

On the day that Emlyn Mulligan has announced his retirement from the Leitrim Senior Football team, we wish to acknowledge a most stellar career in the Green and Gold over the past 17 years since in debut in the Allianz League of 2006.
From his earliest days with us Emlyn has marked himself out as an attacker of exceptional talent, shooting the lights out over many league and championship campaigns in the intervening years. He has been a role model for many young players, many of whom have grown up to share a Leitrim dressing room with him towards the latter part of his career. His scoring achievements have stood up to scrutiny in any forum across many years.
Captain of the Connacht FBD Winners in 2013 and 2014, he may not have gotten to achieve national titles with his native county, but that did not deter him from making a most magnificent contribution towards the county’s fortunes, despite having to deal with three career-threatening injuries over the course of a stellar career. His Croke Park appearance in the Allianz League final in our promotion year of 2019 was, no doubt, a long overdue personal milestone achieved for a player of his quality. In 2014, he was part of a Connacht Inter Provincial winning team, bridging a gap to the last title won by the province in 1969. He has also helped his native Melvin Gaels Club to Leitrim SFC success in 2012.
Players of this longevity are becoming rarer and Emlyn leaves behind him a host of golden memories for those privileged enough to have seen him play over the best part of two decades. We wish him and his family the very best of luck in the future.

Padraig McGloin  (Melvin Gaels) former Leitrim footballer passed away on the 23rd January suddenly at his home in Rathmines. Padraig passed away just as he lived his life, in a quiet and unassuming way.

At the 2007 Leitrim GAA  County Board dinner the team were honoured in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon recognising their achievement.

Padraig went on to play on the Leitrim Senior Team in the 50’s & 60’ and was on the Leitrim Senior team that that defeated Roscommon in the Connacht Senior Football Championship Semi-Final by 1-08 to 1-03 on June 23rd, 1963 in Markievicz Park, Sligo.

Leitrim were defeated by Galway in the Connacht Final on July 14th in MacHale Park, Castlebar.
