AIB Connacht Club Championships
Club FootballIn recent weeks our Senior and Junior Football champions and our Senior Hurling champions were all on provincial club duty in the AIB Club Championships. Unfortunately, Melvin Gaels in the Senior, Leitrim Gaels in the Junior and Cluainín Iomaint in the Hurling were all defeated in their opening round games.
Last Sunday Gortletteragh were the last team to fly the Leitrim Flag in McHale Park, Castlebar against Charlestown of Mayo in the AIB Connacht Intermediate Football Championship. Despite a brave attempt on the day, Gortletteragh came out the wrong side of a 1-13 to 3-15 scoreline. The scoreline didnt reflect the closeness of the contest with Charlestown Scóring two late goals. The Man of the Match Award was rightly awarded to Gortletteraghs Cathal McCrann and well done to Cathal on his terrific performance.
Gortletteraghs defeat ends Leitrims participation in the Connacht Club Championship for another year.

U12 Blitz Day Postponed
Coiste na nÓgUnfortunately, the U12 Blitz Day scheduled for last Saturday 3rd November was postponed due to the inclement weather. We apologise to all clubs for any inconvenience this may have caused.
For 2013 we will have to look into having this Blitz played earlier in the year and hopefully not be at the mercy of such bad weather.

Scór na mBunscoileanna winners
ScórThe 2 nights of Scór na mBunscoileanna took place in Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday 25th and Ballinamore on Friday 26th last.
The entries from the schools on both nights had huge crowds in attendance. The standard of performances were a credit to the schools, parents and teachers, the children really promoted the culture and talent of the schools and showed true team spirit cheering on their classmates and waving their banners and posters. A third night is scheduled for North Leitrim schools on Friday 23rd November.
The best performance on each night in each event got medals and the Cormac MacGiolla shield for the best overall school will be awarded after the north Leitrim event night.

Leitrim Senior Hurling Championship Final
Club HurlingLEITRIM SENIOR HURLING FINAL
Cluainín Iomáint 1-11 Carrick 0-12
Cluainín claimed their first Leitrim Senior Hurling title in 53 years when they narrowly defeated Carrick at Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday.
The only goal of the game, which went the way of the eventual champions, came in the ninth minute from Niall McLoughlin. Cluainín were dominant in the first half however, Carrick rallied well in the second half and actually led by 0-12 to 1-8 with 14 minutes remaining, thanks to a score from Clement Cunniffe.
Cluainín finished strongly, though, with a free from CaptainÓgary Hickey drawing them level in the 57th minute, before points from Man of the Match Michael Poniard and Mícheál Dolan sealed a famous win for the Manorhamilton outfit.
Great scenes of celebrationÓgreeted the final whistle and it was poignant that Gary Hickey lifted the cup alongside the last man to captain Manorhamilton to a Hurling Championship victory in 1959, namely Eugene Gilroy.
We take this opportunity to congratulate Cluainín and wish them the very best of luck as they host the Sligo champions Calry St Josephs this Bank Holiday Monday at 2.30 in Páirc Seán in the semi final of the AIB Connacht Club Junior Hurling Championship.
