U16 All Ireland C Final Leitrim Vs Clare:
Clare started this game very well immediately putting pressure on Leitrim Goalie Shauna Plunkett this was to be the first of a number a superb saves from Aughawillans Plunkett. Clare were quick to respond though with Aoibhainn Malone and Laura Rynne Scóring the first two points of the game. Clare attacked again but thankfully they were intercepted by Mohills Caoimhe Canning who got the ball to Roisin McHugh who in turn found Emma Guckian. Emmas shot was blocked by the Clare Keeper but she quickly won the Clare Kickout and put the ball over the bar to open the Scóring for Leitrim. Clare were awarded a penalty about 20minutes into the game and scored it. Leitrim were finally starting to play when Carmel McGovern found Aughawillans Ciana Stringer who took her shot and found the back of the net. Leitrim Built on this and Aughawillans Aileen McGuire scored two points in quick sucession to even up the scoreline. Just before Half time Leitrim really made great strides Scóring two goals in the space of two minutes Sean OHeslins Aoibheann Flynn and Aughawillans Aileen Maguire finding the net. Emma Guckian scored another point just before the half time whistle scoreline of 3-04 Leitrim to Clares 1-03. All through the First half Mohill Claire Beirne at midfield battled hard.Sean OHeslins Eilish ODowd and Mohill Caoimhe Canning were pivitol for Leitrim. Leitrim opened the second half Scóring St. Marys Emma Guckian Scóring a point. Amy Mc Loughlin and Nicole higgins were very solid at the back Eilish ODowd scored a fine point after having her shot blocked by Clares goalie. Carla Le Guen replaced Lauren Beirne but went to play in the forwards with Captain BronÓgh ORourke moving back. Clare were not giving up easily though and Orla Devitt found the back of the net after Clare had first been denied by Shauna Plunkett. Carla Le Guen scored a point from play after a great build from the back line. Clare quickly scored another goal and two points and things were getting close with only 2 points in it and everyone looking for the time remaining. Aileen Maguire scored another point from an awkward angle. Clare were on the attack again and all the Leitrim supporters were willing the referee to blow that final whistle Clares shot looked like it was going to hit the top corner of the net but thankfully just went over the bar. Leitrim Claim First 60×30 Minor Title
HandballLeitrim Claim First 60×30 Minor Title
Last week-end saw two Leitrim handball sets of doubles in All-Ireland action Minor Doubles Shane Doonan and Donal Wrynn and Ladies Junior B Doubles Ciara McLoughlin and Mary Shanley.
Leitrim lay claim to a first ever GAA Handball All Ireland Minor Softball Doubles championship crown in Abbeylara on Saturday to the delight of their large travelling support Corks Michael Hedigan and Daniel Relihan battled hard for court space but in the end the class and power of Donal Wrynn really stood out on this occasion. The Fenagh clubman delivered eye-catching looming range shooting with both hands and with his partner, Shane Doonan, chasing down anything on the right, they powered to a convincing 21-14, 21-12 win. The Fenagh duo were simply a class above their opponents, with Doonan in top form killing the ball whenever he got the opportunity.
On Sunday Ciara McLoughlin and Mary Shanley took on Kilkennys Denise Doyle and Megan Clifford in the Ladies decider but unfortunately the Kilkenny ladies came out on top on a score line of 21-11, 21-18. The first game slipped away from the Leitrim pair as they couldnt get to grips with the Kilkenny girls serves. The second game was a must win for Leitrim to force a tie-break and with some great serving and rallies it looked like the Leitrim pair were going to win, leading at one stage by 8 aces, but it wasnt to be Leitrims day and Kilkenny just edged ahead to take the game by 3 aces.
All-Ireland 60×30 Minor Final
Donal Wrynn takes on Limericks Padraig Quish in The M Donnelly 60×30 All-Ireland Minor Final in Abbeylara on Saturday at 1.30, his third Minor Final of the year.
