The draw has been made for Round 1 of the GAA Football All-Ireland Qualifiers, with the meeting of Derry and Longford the pick of the round. Allianz Football League Division II champions Longford have been impressive so far this summer, and only exited Leinster after a narrow replay defeat to Wexford. Their meeting with Derry is a repeat of previous Qualifier meetings in 2002 and 2006, and it will be a tough test for both sides. Elsewhere, it will be an all-Ulster affair when Fermanagh meet Cavan, while Armagh take on Roscommon in what should be an interesting dual. Laois take on neighbours Carlow, while Louth also have a clash with a Leinster rival – they take on Westmeath. Offaly and Tipperary were both relegated from Division III in the spring, and they will now meet, looking to make the most of their summers. The final two games see London entertain Antrim, and Wicklow take on Waterford. The matches will all take place on Saturday, June 30. Fixture details will follow shortly. Leitrim Winner of the Connacht GAA Jersey Day Announced

Connacht GAA saw a huge response from across the Province to ‘Jersey Day’.  Over 20,000 children took park in the initiative with entries returned from almost 200 schools.  The standard of entry was very high with excellent photos taken of many imaginative projects undertaken by the schools.

We take this opportunity to thank all the National Schools in Leitrim who participated in the Connacht Jersey Day.  The independent adjudicators were very impressed at the high standard of entries received from the schools in the county and extend compliments to the teachers and pupils who were so enthusiastic towards the initiative.  After long deliberation the adjudicators decided to select LARGY National School as the Leitrim winner.  Well done Largy!

Diarmuid Sweeney Runai Coiste Chontae Liatroma, Barbara Byrne Runai Coiste na nÓg and Collette Fox Oifigeach Caidrimh Poiblí will join Connacht PRO Tommy Moran as well as county players Adrian Croal and Brian McDonald when they pay a special visit to the school today, Friday 15th June between 1-2pm to present the school with their prizes.  The school will receive tickets for Leitrims Connacht football semi final match with Mayo on Sunday 24th June, coaching resources and equipment as part of their winning prize.

Connacht GAA would like to thank all schools for their involvement in ‘Jersey Day and record their thanks to Cumann na mBunscoil Liatroma for promoting the initiative on behalf of Connacht GAA.

This Saturday evening in Páirc Seán at 5pm close neighbours and keen rivals Roscommon and Leitrim will meet in the Electric Ireland Connacht GAA Minor Football Championship.

With the Rossies already having captured the Connacht Minor League, they will be playing their hearts out with their eyes on a possible double. Carrick on Shannon has proven a difficult venue for visitors to get a result, so Leitrim hopes will be high on a busy weekend for the county.

Coiste Chontae Liatroma wish the Leitrim Minor Team and Management the very best of luck.

Reminder – Extra time if necessary.

Fixtures News:

The venue and time for our Connacht Intermediate Championship game against Sligo was announced over the weekend. It will take place in Elverys McHale Park Castlebar at 12noon on the 24th of June. Were looking forward to seeing you all there on what will be a wonderful day for Leitrim football. Ham sandwiches and a flask of tea are the order of the day with the mens game throwing in at 3.30pm.

Leitrim Ladies u14s:

Hard luck to the young Leitrim Ladies who took on Cavan last Saturday in Templeport Bawnboy in the All Ireland Semi Final. The game just didnt go our way with lots of missed chances but sometimes that is just the way things go and the girls should take credit for getting that far in the competition and from what I could see on Saturday afternoon this group of girls have a very bright footballing future ahead of them.

Dawn Run:

This years Juice Plus+ sponsored 10k Dawn run takes place on the 23rd of June Starting at Páirc Seán at 6am. Entry fee is 15euro and you can register on www.runireland.com or come early on the morning to register. Juice Plus+ information can be obtained from Damien Brennan on www.damianbrennan.ie. Light breakfast and hot showers will be provided after the race. Walkers and joggers very welcome. All funds raised will support Leitrim Ladies.

Congrats to Cloone who won the Gallogly Catering ACL Division 5 League Final this afternoon in Páirc Seán.  They became the first adult team to lift silverwear in the 2012 season.  Final score Cloone 2-8, Glencar Manorhamilton 0-11.

While Glencar Manor enjoyed periods of dominance in this entertaining contest, they couldn’t make it count on the scoreboard and Cloone’s ability to convert goal chances with clinical efficiency proved to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle.

Well done Cloone.
