The John Miller Minor Connacht Championship
The John Miller Minor Connacht Championship Leitrim v Roscommon took place on Saturday evening last in Strokestown. The leitrim team was changed from there encounter with Galway the previous weekend with Goalie Kate Byrne back and Shauna McLoughlin moving out to her centre half back position. Leitrim were slow to settle into the game and Roscommon quickly built up scores in the first twenty minutes of the game with a lead of 2-7 to leitrim’s 2 points but just before half time Leitrim were given a boost with Ann Marie Gallagher Scóring a goal from a lovely pass from Shauna McLoughlin. The teams went in at half time with the Scórline reading Leitrim 1-2 Roscommon 2-10. Roscommon opened the second half and continued on winning ways despite the best efforts of the leitrim team and changes were made with Claire Rowley moving into the back line and Grainne O’Malley into the forwards. Goalie Kate Byrne had a tough time between the posts but made some excellent saves. Roscommon’s centre forward Caoileen Beirne along with her team mates Gillian Dufficey and Caroline Gunning kept the Leitrim back line very busy. A late rally from Leitrim’s Shauna Clancy Scóring a point and Grainne O’Malley Scóring a goal was not enough to close the gap between the sides and the final scoreline was Roscommon 2-21 Leitrim 2-3.

Connacht Success For Leitrim
HandballConnacht Success For Leitrim
Fenaghs Aaron Scollan took the Connacht 40×20 U16B title at the finals played in Castlebar on Easter Monday where he defeated Mayos Rossa Vahey on a scoreline of 15-11, 15-6. In a match that was very tight in the early exchanges the Mayo man seemed to be in control midway through the first game leading 10-5 before Scollan started to show his class and went ahead 11-10. Vahey managed to get another ace to tie it at 11-11 but that was his last score as Scollan closed out the game 15-11. The second game started with Scollan having serve which he made great use of and never looked like relinquishing his lead frustrating Vahey. With some great finishing Scollan eased to victory 15-6 taking his first Connacht Title.
Leitrim also had U11 Cormac Scollan and U11 Doubles Eoin and Fergal McLoughlin from Fenagh in the Finals on the day. Cormac Scollan was defeated by P Callaghan from Mayo while Eoin and Fergal McLoughlin were defeated by Galways Eanna Woods and Sean O Conghaile.

Want to be on TV?
GeneralSiobhan OSullivan works for a TV Production Company called “Piranha Bar”.
They are making a TV ad for the GAA that features fans sharing their match day memories and Im searching for the fans who will star in this ad.
Having spoken to lots of GAA supporters one of the matches that is standing out is the 1994 Leitrim v Mayo Connacht Final!
Do you know of anyone who has particularly strong memories of this match and can tell the story in an engaging way?
All people have to do is email me their story this week, or better still send a short video clip of them telling it and they could end up starring in this national TV ad.
Email address is siobhanosul@gmail.com
Siobhan will also be hitting the road and calling to places that have a lot of stories so that she can record them on video so keep that in the back of your mind and we can maybe discuss a time that might suit to call to Leitrim in the next week and a half.
Anyone whos interested would need to be available for filming in Dublin on Monday 30th April. ( Piranha Bar would look after travel and accommodation on the Sunday.)
