Valerie Cogan explained the urgent need for the conference, saying, “We live in a world where we can communicate with one another like never before and yet we live in a world where people are lonely and disconnected from one another. Through our work as a community mental health nurses, the one common denominator that causes the most problems is loneliness and the feeling of isolation. Indeed, some of us know all too well from our own experience just what that is and what it feels like. Sometimes the most connected people are the most disconnected”.
The conference moderator will be broadcaster and playwright Tommy Marren (Midwest Radio).
Speakers on the night will include
· Sean Keane – traditional singer and musician, speaking about dealing with personal grief from his experience of his wife’s death
· Cora Staunton – Irelands best known ladies Gaelic footballer, author and RTE sports pundit

Leitrim GAA Squad And Officials Arrive Safely Back From New York
County FootballThe preparation, dedication, and effort put in by all concerned in the run-up to this game was supposed to cumulatively lead to a win and a place in the Connacht semi-final. It wasn’t to be, unfortunately, and we heartily congratulate New York on a historic victory. Their scenes of unbridled joy were in sharp contrast to the desolation felt by our lads at the final whistle. New York have many years of ‘what might have been’ since they first entered the Connacht SFC in 1999, and last Saturday, their long wait for a victory came to an end. We wish them the best of luck in less than two weeks as they prepare to take on Sligo in the Connacht semi-final.
We look forward to the Tailteann Cup, which commences on May 13/14, and we implore anybody with an interest in the promotion of these young lads to maintain positivity over the next number of weeks. It is easy to be critical, and positive criticism is always welcome. Some of what has been posted in the aftermath of last Saturday night makes for difficult reading and, dare I say it, has been made with little thought for those on the receiving end. The pen is mightier than the sword so always bear in mind that our players are dedicated and exemplary young men who give up huge chunks of their time and make tremendous sacrifices in pursuit of an amateur sport that is supposed to be for everybody’s enjoyment. It goes without saying that our team management left no stone unturned and did their utmost to have the lads primed for the match.
All we lost on Saturday night last was a mere game of football. We are very proud of them all as indeed we’re certain are their parents and all the family members associated with them.

The Late Sean Clarke, Forosa, Gortletteragh and Mohill, Co. Leitrim.
GeneralLeitrim GAA wishes to be associated with the grief that surrounds the passing of the late Sean Clarke, Forosa, Gortletteragh and Mohill County Leitrim. Sean’s great battle with a sudden illness that befell him last December, ended on Thursday last, as he returned to his eternal reward.
Sean, whose brother Séamus is the current Leitrim Senior Team Sponsor, was himself a most dedicated Leitrim Supporter and often went to great lengths to support his county at home and away. As recently as last season he cycled to away games, and there’s not much longer a trip to undertake than a trip from Leitrim to Dungarvan on a bicycle in early Spring! A former player with the great Gortletteragh team of the 1980s, Séamus also represented the County at the Underage level.
In underlining the continuing generosity of the Clarke Family to Gaelic Games in the County, Sean himself was also a most generous sponsor over the years through his business interests in Mohill. When Leitrim LGFA started organising end-of-year county presentations in the 1990s, they took place in Clarke’s in Mohill and that continued until at least the mid-2000s. In 2003 Leitrim Ladies had their first-ever official team sponsor and it was Sean who stepped into the breach and he thus started a trend that has continued to the present day. Even after sponsors changed, Sean’s generosity towards Leitrim LGFA continued over many subsequent years.
We extend our sympathies to his son Darren and Sean’s partner Anella, brother Seamus and sister Eileen, sister-in-law Catriona, daughter-in-law Amy, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Sean will be reposing in Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road, Longford N39EC81, on Saturday, 1st April 2023, from 12 noon – 3.30pm with removal to St Patrick’s Church, Mohill, Co. Leitrim, via Forosa, Gortletteragh, to arrive for 5pm. Funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill, on Sunday, 2nd April, at 2 pm, followed by burial afterwards in Gortletteragh Cemetery.
Ar dhes Dé go raibh sé.

The late Arthur Boyle, Keadue, Co. Roscommon and formerly of Aghacashel Co. Leitrim.
GeneralThe death has occurred of Arthur Boyle, late of Keadue, County Roscommon, and formerly of Aghacashel, County Leitrim. Arthur was a former PRO of Coiste Chontae Leitrim CLG during the 1970s and into the early 1980s. He would have made many incisive contributions to Leitrim GAA Yearbooks and other publications of that era in addition to reporting regularly on club matches and activities in the Leitrim Observer. He was famed for his contributions to the very essence of local GAA under the title Grassroots. He also served the board as a club referee and in his playing days, he would have represented Drumkeerin, while stationed there as a popular local Garda.
Arthur will be sadly missed by his much-loved wife Rosaleen, daughters Mairéad and Niamh, sons-in-law, Colm, Hugh and Dan, grandchildren, Doireann, Lucy, and Abigail, sister Bridie, uncle Robbie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, relatives, neighbours, former work colleagues and his wide circle of friends. He will be laid to rest in Kilronan Cemetery, tomorrow, (Wednesday), following a celebration of his funeral mass in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Keadue, at 12 noon.
Leitrim GAA offers its deepest sympathies to all his family on his sad passing.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.
