Leitrim Supporters Club launch in the Herbert Park Hote
Club FootballThe Leitrim Supporters Club launch in the Herbert Park Hotel on Thursday night was an outstanding success. It had everything with a wonderful setting, compliments of the Mc Sharry Brothers Manorhamilton; a full house augmented by a bus from Leitrim; one supporter, Johnny McGovern and his wife even came from Ardara Co Donegal and great craic as Leitrim people from every parish renewed friendships and exchanged hopes for Leitrim’s fortunes in 2012.
Des Cahill did the honours and expressed his delight with the complimentary 25 year highlights DVD produced by Brian Blake, which every purchaser of a Supporters’ Club ticket will receive.
Joe Flynn expressed the mood of the audience in remembering the late Andrew Dolan. He had lots of positive news for the eager audience including the developments in coaching and the involvement of many former county players with the county teams. The great news that the Centre of Excellence in Annaduff will be ready for 2013 was warmly received.
Barney Breen and George Dugdale briefed the audience on the senior team preparations for 2012. Everyone present was very impressed with their professionalism and passion for their roles. They made a strong appeal for help with employment for some of the panel without work. This is a huge issue and everyone there was cognisant of the fact that some many of the team which beat Sligo were now abroad. Hopefully some of them will be able to return before too long.
Long standing former Chairman Eamonn Duignan was presented with a gift from the Dublin Committee by Joe Layden for his incredible and outstanding contribution to the Leitrim GAA Supporters Club over 25 years.
Speaking afterwards Killargue native Michael Feeney, the new Dublin Branch Chairman, said he was thrilled with the big turnout and the really positive vibes from everyone. He is appealing to Leitrim people everywhere to once again join the Supporters Club for 2012 and keep the Leitrim flag flying. James Molloy’s photographs from the event are available here.
