Club HurlingSenior Hurling Final
Senior Hurling Final Gortletteragh 0.10 Cluainin Iomaint 2.04 (After Extra time) In what was an enthralling final where both teams found it difficult to get used to the wet sliotar we will have a replay. Replay details unknown at time of going to print. Gorletteragh showed their never say die attitude throughout the game by drawning level with Cluainin time and time again. One thing we are all sure of is that there will be a new name on the Stephen Dorrigan Memorial Senior Championship Cup come the replay. See full report in sports section of Leitrim Observer. Photographs from the match are available in the gallery section.
Under 16 Leitrim Championship
Under 16 Championship St. Marys GAA pitch provided perfect conditions for hurling last Wednesday evening for the Under 16 Hurling Final. Ballinamore Hurling club played Cluainin Iomaint in an exciting final that ended very close on a scoreline of 2.05 to 2.04 in favour of Cluainin Iomaint. Ballinamore set up an exciting finish by Scóring an excellent goal that beat the injured Gavin O Hagan who would normally line out in midfield. Pearse Dolan was excellent for Ballinamore but Kevin Clerkin at centre back broke down Ballinamores attacks one after another. Kevin Clerkin has shone for the Under 16 Development Squads this year and is a star for the future. Niall McLoughlin was ever dependable in midfield and scored some important points and Oisin Parkinson Coombs was always threatening the Ballinamore defence. But it was Martin Feeney who buried a fantastic goal for Cluainin and was later involved in a some what controversial penalty call where Niall McLoughlin sent the resulting penalty to the net.
Cluainin travelled to Kent Park on Sunday last to take on Sligo Champions Naomh Eoin. Naomh Eoin had won the Feile with the same team two years ago so were going to be strong. Cluainin had high hopes as they drew with them earlier in the year in the Sligo league. In very wet and miserable conditions Naomh EoinÓgot off to the perfect start with two early goals and a point. But a limping Gavin O Hagan sent a powerful shot to the net. Soon after Oisin Parkinson Coombs scored a long range effort over the bar to lift Cluainins hopes going into half time. After the restart Naomh Eoin continued their Scóring dominance with three points and two more goals. Cluainin continued to threaten whenÓgavin O Hagan hit the side netting. Soon after Gavin was fouled and Niall McLoughlin pointed. Cluainin were not finished as Niall McLoughlin scored two powerful shots to the net that only Gary Hickey would be proud of! Unfortunaltely, Naomh Eoin finished strong and scored another two goals and a point to see off Cluainins attempts to rescue an historic win.
