It’s now or never in the Senior and Intermediate Championship as the final group games take place this weekend. It really is down to the wire as no less than seven of the eight weekend games are crunch ties with only the meeting of Drumkeerin and Glenfarne Kiltyclogher in the Intermediate set to decide top and second group placing. Elsewhere in the Junior A Championship it’s really hotting up with Round 2 taking place this weekend and three teams have to win to keep their championship hopes alive.Â

CONNACHT GOLD SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Ballinamore SOH v Annaduff ââ Saturday at 6pm in Pairc Sean
Ballinamore SOH enter the game with a win under their belts in Round 1 over Drumreilly and then last weekend Drumreilly blew the group wide open when defeating a hotly fancied Annaduff side. Annaduff simply have to win and one wonders will they be able to perform given the amount of pressure they are under. Sean O’Heslin’s were impressive against Drumreilly but they will be acutely aware of the Annaduff challenge. It remains to be seen can Annaduff live up to their âÅgreat expectationsâ or can Ballinamore SOH do a âÅgood deedâ for their neighbours Drumreilly! Â
Carrigallen v Glencar Manorhamilton ââ Saturday at 7.30 in Pairc Sean
Carrigallen defeated Bornacoola in Round 1 and now face the County Champions Glencar Manorhamilton who were rocked last weekend by a one point defeat by the Bors. A one point win will be enough to see Glencar Manor through but a defeat or draw and they are gone. Carrigallen will be looking to avenge recent results against Manor and in doing so do a huge favour for Bornacoola who will be anxious observers. Will the champions get back to winning ways or will Carrigallen clear the way for the crowning of new champions in 2011?
St Mary’s v Allen Gaels ââ Saturday at 6pm in Ballinamore
Allen Gaels not only have to win this game but do so by four points to advance – a tall order against last years beaten county finalists! St Mary’s were less than impressive in their first round win against Kiltubrid while Allen Gaels will wonder why their performance levels slipped in the second half against Kiltubrid last weekend.  St Mary’s start as firm favourites and this will suit Allen Gaels down to the ground. If Allen Gaels turn up they are sure to trouble St Mary’s and derby matches often take on a life of their own ââ you decide who your money is on!Â
Aughawillan v Cloone ââ Saturday at 7.30 in Ballinamore
This game has a winner takes all outcome. A weakened Cloone side were demoralised last weekend by a heavy defeat at the hands of table toppers Mohill while Aughawillan were unlucky not to get something out of their first round game with Mohill. If Cloone welcome back some of their players they will be a different force. I suspect âÅReeling in the Yearsâ may provide some motivation for the two sides – The Intermediate Championship Final of 2009 saw Cloone defeat the Willies ââ a colossal encounter is in store again!

Drumkeerin v Glenfarne Kiltyclogher ââ Saturday at 6pm in Drumshanbo
Drumkeerin and Glenfarne Kiltyclogher have both qualified for the quarter finals courtesy of their victories over St Mary’s second string. This North Leitrim meeting will decide who tops the group and with that and pride at stake we would hope the contest is full of passion. Glenfarne Kiltyclogher have shown the better form and the fact they are competing in Division 1 should stand to them but Drumkeerin have the experience of contesting last years Intermediate Championship Final!
Ballinaglera v Gortletteragh ââ Saturday at 7.30pm in Drumshanbo
Another winner takes all encounter. Both teams were well defeated by Melvin Gaels and one wonders which team can recover in time. Neither team will care how they play, they won’t care if it is low Scóring or memorable ââ a win and a place in the quarter finals is all that will matter. A draw would be enough for Ballinaglera but that is perilous territory for them to even think likely. A serious contest is in store at the Drumshanbo venue!
Glencar Manorhamilton v Aughnasheelin ââ Sunday at 2pm in Pairc Sean
The winner of this encounter will join Eslin as group runners up. Both teams leaked goals against Eslin and one would imagine the team which can address this should advance. Even in defeat both teams have put up big scores so expect the same on Sunday ââ if the game ends in a draw ââ Glencar Manor will advance. At the quarter final stages last year Aughnasheelin defeated the Manor men ââ has history a habit of repeating itself?
Dromahair v Fenagh St Caillin’s ââ Sunday at 3.30 in Pairc Sean
Fenagh were unlucky last weekend to go down to Aughavas by a single point and this game was always billed as the crunch tie. Fenagh were left ruing Scóring opportunities the spurned and if they address their Scóring return they are sure to put it up to Dromahair. The North Leitrim men start as firm favourites based on their demolition of Aughavas in the opening group game and their Division 1 League status. This may not be Fenagh’s year but it won’t be long coming!

Our quarter finalists are now known following the last round of group games which took place last weekend. InÓgroup 1, Glencar Manorhamilton were ruthless in their must winÓgame against Carrigallen. Their six point winning margin was enough to see them top the group (on Scóring average) and qualify Bornacoola as group runners up. Incidentally, a five point loss for Carrigallen would have seen them through and Bornacoola out – that is how close this group was in the end. InÓgroup 2, St Marys beat Allen Gaels by five points and they topped their group with two wins from two with Kiltubrid finishing group runners up as they had already accounted for Allen Gaels. InÓgroup 3 Annaduff won their last game against Ballinamore SOH and this was enough to see them join SOHs in the Quarter Finals. All teams in this group finished on 2 points but Drumreillys poorer Scóring return let them down in the end. In the last Group Mohill who had already topped their group after Round 2 were joined by Aughawillan as they defeated Cloone by five points at the weekend. The quarter final meetings have thrown up some mouth watering ties. They are scheduled to take place on Saturday 20th August as follows:-

GWP Intermediate Football Championship
InÓgroup 2, Glencar Manorhamiltons second string accounted for an injury hit Aughnasheelin side. They now join Eslin who topped the group in the quarter finals. Gortletteragh were victorious against Ballinaglera and joinÓgroup 3 winners Melvin Gaels in the quarter finals while inÓgroup 4 Dromahair accounted for Fenagh and this result saw them top their group with Aughavas runners up. The meeting of Drumkeerin and Glenfarne Kiltyclogher was postponed owing to a bereavement in the Glenfarne Kiltyclogher Club. We take this opportunity to sympathise with the Harkin Family, Glenfarne on the sudden and sad loss of Desmond Harkin, RIP. This game is re-fixed for next Saturday evening at 7pm in Ballinaglera. The result will decide first and second group placing.
The Intermediate Quarter Finals are scheduled for Sunday 21st August as follows:-

In the Junior A Championship there were second round wins for Allen Gaels, Melvin Gaels, Annaduff and Gortletteragh and this weekend the final group games take place. InÓgroup 4, Drumkeerin were the only team to exit the championship after Round 2 while Gortletteragh and Mohill have qualified for the quarter finals but do meet this weekend to decide first and second group placing. In the other 3 groups it really is down to the wire this weekend and as we know anything can still happen. The following are the games scheduled for this weekend.

Hurling News
Club HurlingHurling Go Games for Under 8s / under 10s/ under 12s
All new players are encouraged to come along even if its their first time. The first blitz took place on saturday 30th July in Ballinamore where up to 40 boys and girls aged from 6 to 12 took place in various small sided games. This was a great success and provides the indroduction of hurling at a young age. The next blitz will take place in the Bee Park, Manorhamilton on Saturday 20th. The blitz scheduled for Saturday 13th in Carrick will be changed to a date in September
Under 14 Hurling Championship Final
Ballinamore hurling club won an extremely entertaining final over Cluainin Iomaint last saturday week in Pairc Tom. The Manor men started the game in emphatic fashion with Damon Beattie hitting the net and Ferghal Rooney and Martin Feeney both hitting points. But Ballinamore hit back and scored some excellent scores from Pearse Dolan to go in at half time with the advantage. Both teams contested full blooded for the sliotar in the second half. Ballinamore physical strength seemed to be the difference between both teams. The skill level from both teams was a fantastic sight. Both full backs on either side held their respective defences together with Kevin Mullen of Ballinamore giving a great display on how to catch a sliotar over his head while Cluainin Iomaint Fergus Munday broke out of defence throughout the game. Mid fielders Micheal Feely, Kieran McPartland(Cluainin Iomaint) and Conor Cullen/ Donal Feely(Ballinamore) gave it their all tackling ferociously throughout. The hurling skills of Pearse Dolan/Peter Reynolds (Ballinamore) and Stephen Loughlin/Martin Feeney and Ferghal Rooney (Cluainin Iomaint) shows that hurling in Leitrim is alive and well. The final score was Ballinamore 3.07 Cluainin Iomaint 2.06.
Well done to Stephen Loughlin (Cluainin Iomaint) who lined out in the Waterford colours last Sunday in Croke Park at half time in the All Ireland Hurling semi final. Stephen attends St. Clares National school Manorhamilton and gave a man of the match display in the Cluainin Iomaint defence in the under hurling 14 final. Well done Stephen.
Under 14 and under 16 development squads have commenced training with the first session taking place last week in Carrick. They will train inÓgortlettragh at 1pm this thursday. Both squads will train at a different venue each week under the guidance of Steve Feeney, Kevin McGrath, Alan Duffy and Tommy McCormack.
Under 16 Championship Fixtures-
Cluainin Iomaint will travel to Gortlettragh on tuesday 9th which will be the first game in the under 16 championship. Current under 16 champions Cluainin Iomaint will be favourites with their participation in the Sligo league under their belts. St. Marys are due to play Ballinamore this week.

Cluainin Iomaint were due to travel to Gortlettragh last Monday evening but with many of the Gortlettragh squad involved with the football championship they had to concede and hand the points to the Manor men. St. Marys will travel to Gortlettragh this Monday and need a win to stay in with a shout to reach a league final.

Intermediate Championship
The Leitrim Intermediate ladies finished their championship group stages campaign on Sunday last in Ruislip, London where they overcame London, 2-15 to 1-02, so it is four out of four. Leitrim now top their group and will see an All Ireland Semi Final. The exact date has to be confirmed along with those they are meeting on the other side of the draw.
We would like to thank to thank the Ladies Committee in London for providing fantastic hospitality after the game.
On a local note it was great to see Una Creegan from Cloone who is based in London line out for the exiles. Also thanks to all the Leitrim people who made the journey over to support the girls.
The trip would not have been made possible without the background work of certain people, namely Patricia Bohan and Michelle Duffy so a big thank you to those ladies.
Under 16 All Ireland Semi Final
Best wishes go to our U16 Ladies this weekend as they take on Longford in the B Championship Final this Saturday at 3pm in Mullahoran, Co. Cavan. All Support would be greatly appreciated.
Dawn Run
What a fantastic scene it was at 6am on Saturday morning last when 200 people converged upon St Marys GAA grounds for the Dawn Run in aid of the Leitrim Ladies.
We would like to thank all the clubs for providing stewards and help, the members of the county board who helped out on the day.
Thank you to those who ran/walked or done a bit of both. The support was overwhelming so thank you to everyone.
Last but not least a big Thank You must go to Bernie Glancy for her endless work on organising this run. It is much appreciated by everyone on the county board and most of all the Leitrim Ladies Senior team.

Intermediate Championship
The Leitrim Intermediate ladies continue their championship campaign this Sunday afternoon in London where they have their final group game against London. Thanks to their win on Sunday last against Limerick they will see an All Ireland Semi Final this year. A win however against London would have them on top of their group so best of luck to the ladies.Â
Under 16 Connacht Final
Congratulations to the under 16 ladies on their Magnificent win against Roscommon on Wednesday evening last in the Hyde Park Roscommon where they overcame Roscommon in the B Championship final. Well done to all the girls and their Mentors. This win sees them in an All Ireland Semi Final against Longford on the weekend of the 13th August. Please keep an eye on fixtures for this game, support will be needed.
Dawn Run

Shocks a plenty in the Senior Championship
Club FootballConnacht Gold Senior Championship
Bornacoola provided one of the shock results of the weekend when defeating the reigning champions Glencar Manorhamilton in a close encounter in Pairc Sean on Saturday evening. The Bors were full value for their one point victory (0-14 to 0-13) and for Manor to survive they must now beat Carrigallen this weekend and if that happens Scóring difference will decide the quarter finalists from this group with the 3 teams on a win apiece. Of course a Carrigallen win or draw will dump Glencar Manor out of the championship. Kiltubrid defeated Allen Gaels in the second game at the county grounds and they will be anxiously awaiting the result of the Allen Gaels v St Mary’s game this weekend (a St Mary’s win will ensure Kiltubrid’s passage to the quarter finals while an Allen Gaels win and Scóring averages again will decide the placings).
At the Ballinamore venue on Saturday evening Mohill were the only team to secure their place in the quarter finals in Round 2 by comfortably defeating Cloone. Aughawillan and Cloone will go head to head next weekend to decide who will join them in the quarter finals. In the other group game Drumreilly had a massive one point win over a shocked Annaduff side. Drumreilly will be hoping that their neighbours Ballinamore SOH beat Annaduff next weekend – a result which would see them through to the quarters finals and Annaduff facing a relegation battle. On the other hand an Annaduff win and Scóring averages will again be decisive. An interesting weekend is in store all round!
GWP Intermediate Championship
In the Intermediate championship – Eslin, Melvin Gaels, Drumkeerin and Glenfarne Kiltyclogher have all secured their places in the quarter finals. Glencar Manor and Aughnasheelin meet next weekend to decide who will join Eslin as group runners up while Gortletteragh and Ballinaglera do likewise in the Melvin Gaels group. Glenfarne Kiltyclogher secured their place in the quarter finals by defeating St Mary’s second string. This result put St Mary’s into relegation battle. Next weekend Drumkeerin and Glenfarne Kiltyclogher meet and the result will decide first and second group placings. Aughavas defeated Fenagh by the minimum in the last group game and next weekend Fenagh will be hoping to upset the odds by defeating Dromahair in their last group game.
Junior A Championship
In the Junior A Championship there were first round wins for Leitrim Gaels, Bornacoola, Ballinamore SOH and Mohill. This sets up these teams nicely approaching Round 2 of the championship which takes place next weekend.

Coiste Chontae Liatroma wish James Gilmartin (Glencar Manorhamilton) get well wishes after he sustained a broken leg during the Glencar Manorhamilton v Bornacoola Senior Championship match on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean. We must take this opportunity to compliment the quick actions of the players and officials and thank the many medical personnel who attended to James both on and off the field of play. Glad to report James is recovering well after surgery in SGH.

Lorraine Flynn RIP
Club FootballCoiste Chontae Liatroma extend deepest sympathy to the family of the late Lorraine Flynn, Celbridge, Co Kildare who passed away aged 18 years on Friday 22nd July, 2011.
Even though Lorraine lived her too short a life in County Kildare she inherited a great love for Leitrim and Leitrim GAA from her father James who played for Gortletteragh for many years and her mother Jacinta. The Flynn family have a long association with Leitrim GAA and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
A minutes silence was observed in memory of Lorraine ahead of the Intermediate Championship match betweenÓgortletteragh and Melvin Gaels yesterday (31/7/11).

Respect Initive
Up to Under 14 Championship
Their has been a great responce to the respect initive at our under 8 & 10 go games blitz and our under 12 mini league games. Now that the under 14 championship has commenced we are asking all clubs to ensure there coaches and players observe the initive by wearing the Respect bibs and getting the players to line up and shake hands before and after the game.
Schools of Excellence / Development Squads
U-14 School of Excellence
The U-14 school of excellence will take a break for a few weeks while the under 14 championship is onÓgoing.
U-15 School of Excellence
Our under 15 squad played Longford in a final trial on Saturday last in Annaduff GAA grounds. This proved a very exciting game with Leitrim pushing a more established Longford all the way. Excellent workout which will give the Leitrim management plenty to work on. Next session takes place on Sunday evening next. Players will be contacted with full details.
U-16 Development squad
The group stage of the Fr. Manning cup competition involving Leitrim will now take place on Saturday next 30th July in Michael Fay Park (Longford Slashers) Longford commencing at 2pm.
VHI GAA Cul camps 2011
Vhi GAA Cul camps Great turnout again this week at our Vhi GAA Cul camps taking place in Drumkeerin, Fenagh and Leitrim Gaels.
The last of this years Vhi GAA Cul camp will take place in Ballinamore commencing on Monday August 15th.

The Leitrim Intermediate ladies continue their championship campaign this Sunday afternoon in Ballinamore at 2pm where they host Limerick. This looks to be a tough encounter as there was nothing between both teams in the League this year. Please come out and show your support for the girls.

Division Three League Final
The Division Three League final took place between Fenagh and Dromahair B on Saturday last where the final score was 3-19 to 0-09 in Dromahairs favour. Well done to Dromahair on another League title this year. Hard luck to Fenagh but this should stand them inÓgood stead going into their championship.
