Coiste Chontae Liatroma extends congrats to Gortletteragh and Ballinamore SOH who claimed victory at the recently held Feile na nÓg and Feile na nGael Finals held in Derry and Clare respectively.

Gortletteragh Footballers powered to victory having built up an early lead with the advantage of the wind in the 1st half. They never looked in any danger in the 2nd half despite Kildares Robertstowns spirited performance. Final score Div 6 Final – Gortletteragh 3-10, Robertstown 1-2. Meanwhile Ballinamore SOH U14 Hurlers created history by becoming the 1st Leitrim team in the 40 year history of Feile na nGael to win at the Feile competition. The team beat Old Christians from Limerick in the Division 6 Final on a scoreline of Ballinamore SOH 2-2 to Old Christians 0-3.

In recent years Leitrim Clubs such as Drumreilly boys and St Josephs girls have won titles at Feile and Ballinamore and Gortletteragh continued the tradition and in doing so do Club and County proud at National Level. Again well done to the teams and especially their mentors.

The draw for Round 2 of the GAA Football All-Ireland Qualifiers has thrown up a number of fascinating ties.

Leitrim will have to travel this year to either Newbridge or Casement Park for their next encounter which is in Round 2 of the qualifiers.  Kildare and Antrim must fight it out this weekend in Casement park (fixture to be confirmed) in a replay of last Saturday evenings Round 1 drawnÓgame in Newbridge to determine Leitrims opposition.  Earlier in the championship Kildare lost to Louth and Antrim lost to Tyrone in their respective provincial rounds.

Dublin, whose five-year unbeaten run in Leinster was ended by Meath on Sunday, face Tipperary at home.

Last years beaten All-Ireland finalists, Cork, have a home tie against Cavan, who earned their place in the draw with a stunning comeback win over Wicklow at Breffni Park on Saturday night.

The plum draw of the round sees Ulster rivals Fermanagh take on Armagh at Brewster Park in a repeat of the 2008 provincial final, which the Orchard County won after a replay.

Why not come out and support this great bunch of Lads. The under 16 league is nearly finished with the final few games in the 9 aside being played. Well done to Drumkerrin who defeated Allen Gaels in the 15 aside final and to Drumreilly who overcame Mohill in the 13 aside final.

The under 16 championship is due to commence in the end of August. The under 14 and minor championships are provisionally due to start on the 9th and 14th of July respectively. The under 12s are nearly finished a series of blitzs which have replaced the league, with mostly positive comments coming from them.

This year is the last year we will have an under 12 championship in Leitrim under a direction from Croak Park. The championship will commence at the end of August. The under 8s and under 10s go games blitzs are ongoing with a very positive response coming from them, the idea being that all childrenÓget a chance to play with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment from the games rather than winning or loosing.

Leitrim and Roscommon Supporters arrived in large numbers to support their respective teams in the Connacht Football Championship Semi Final yesterday in sunny Hyde Park.

We all travelled to Hyde Park with confidence that our Leitrim Senior Team could pull off a much needed victory to lift spirits within the County. After suffering a devastating blow with the death of our County Stalwart Philly McGuinness in April, private emotions remained just that within the Leitrim camp.

On the day there were a number of fitting tributes to the memory of Philly:-

• The players wore a specially designed simplistic warm-up top in his memory with his retired Number 10 on the back

• A wonderful article in the programme penned by our own Fergal McGill who paid tribute to the man who " died , as he lived, doing precisely what he loved"

• The minutes silence observed to honour Philly was beautifully calm

• The attendance of almost 12,000 were treated to a full-blooded and tight affair in a wonderful atmosphere

The game itself was an all too familiar story as Leitrim put up a typically brave and fiery performance from start to finish but just couldnt seal that all important win. Credit must be paid to both "Division 4" teams for the manner in which they approached the game and the standard of football produced.

Leitrim dominated the first half and led at half time yesterday and were well worth that lead 0-8 to 0-7. They mixed the long and short ball game to great effect. Unfortunately their periods of dominance did not reflect so on the scoreboard. Roscommon started the second half impressively and a Donal Shine goal in the 44th minute was the match-turning moment. They never looked back after the goal and Leitrim were always playing catch up. Final score Roscommon 1-13 to Leitrims 0-11. Well done to our own Michael Foley who was 100% accurate from frees yesterday.

We wish Roscommon all the best in the Connacht final.  Leitrim head to the qualifiers but they should be proud and optimistic.
