Connacht Scór Final Report

An incredible night for Leitrim in the Connacht Scór Finals in Loughrea, Co Galway on Saturday. Leitrim topped last years record of 5 titles by winning 6 of the 8 events. This is Leitrims best representation ever in an All Ireland Scór Sinsear finals since 1984 when Leitrim won no less than seven of the eight events. The 6 titles won seen the County top a record 100 Connaught titles in the 40th year of Scór. Leitrim was also the only county to be represented in all 8 categorys and in turn was awarded with the award of Connaught County of 2010. The Cormac MacGiolla Cup was presented to Rúnaí Maura Mulvey and Cathaoirleach Séan O Suilleabháin by Ailbhe McGill.

Glencar-Manorhamilton first to the stage won the Figure Dance beating the 8 ladies from Kilglass, Co Roscommon. This is the clubs 8th trip in a row to Killarney and they will be hoping to go the extra mile and bring the title back once more having last won it in 2002.
Elaine Duignan from Ballinamore gave a fabulous rendition of the Rocks of Bawn but Claire Igoe of Corofin took the Solo Singing title back to Galway.
Leitrim Gaels had every foot in the hall tapping with their quirky and modern take of arrangements for Instrumental Music sailing through to the All-Ireland finals. They last featured in the finals in 2008.
Louise Staunton from Bornacoola won Recitation, she also went through in Question Time and has doubled her chances of bringing a medal home from the All-Irelands.
Ballad Group was one of the tightest competitions of the night with 4 of the 5 counties taking part. St Marys clinched the title with their superb harmonies and contrast of songs.
Question Time went to the knowledgable Bornacoola club after a nail biting 4 rounds head to head with Claremorris Co. Mayo to break the equal marks throughout.
The fantastic and witty Seán OHeslins won the Novelty Act. Having won the All-lreland in 2009 the club will be hoping to repeat their sucess again in 2010.
Set Dancing was won by Abbeyknockmoy, Co Galway, a narrow call by judges between our ownÓglenar-Manor and Mayo, all giving fine performances.

Tickets for the All Ireland Finals in the INEC Killarney on Saturday 24th April must be ordered in advance. For the competing clubs, tickets must be ordered through your clubs Scór officer as soon as possible. For people outside those clubs they can be ordered directly through County Scór Rúnaí, Maura Mulvey. It is not certain that all orders for tickets can be accommodated due to the large volume of numbers from our County so please contact your Scór officer asap if you wish to order tickets. Clubs are also asked to make sure that anyone who orders tickets pays for them with the order, as tickets are non-refundable and the clubs must pay for all tickets when ordered.

Seachtain na Gaeilge Traith na gCeist in Croke Park on La Fheile Padraig

Bornacoola close to All Ireland Trath na gCeist title.

Bornacoolas quiz team were within a question of winning the All Ireland final of the Seachtain na Gaeilge Tráth na gCeist in Croke Park on Lá Fhéile Pádraig. They scored 56 out of 65 questions and were one behind Lucan Sarsfields from Dublin on 57. With two rounds to go they were one up and they were level with Sarsfields with a round to go. They were extremely unlucky not to get at least into a tie-breaker.

Well done to the team on a terrific performance.

Alliance NHL – Division 4

Allianz NHL Div 4 – Round III

Leitrim 3 – 15, South Down 3 – 10.

Leitrim staged a dramatic come-back to win their first Allianz NHL Division 4 game of the season in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday after a tough encounter with South Down.

scores were level on a number of occasions and Leitrim were reduced to 14 men on 42 minutes after Paraic McWeeney got a second yellow card. At that stage, Leitrim were trailing by four points but for the remainder of the game, every Leitrim player battled as if their lives depended on it.

In the last throes of the game Liam Burns scored a goal and a point to ensure victory for Leitrim. Clement Cunniffe was back to his best from both open play and frees despite carrying an injury and each player responded inÓgreat fashion to get this victory.

Scór County Final Results

Leitrim Scór Finals took place in the Canon Donohue Hall Mohill on Saturday last. It was a packed venue with an eager audience to see Leitrims talent showcase their finest performances in the hope of securing a county title.

Rince Foirne

Figure dancing saw Glencar-Manorhamilton win the title for the 8th time in a row but not without stiff competition from the Sean OHeslins club. Dancing for Glencar Manorhamilton were Nicole OHara, Amanda Sweeney, Clare Mc Loughlin, Edel Fowley, Damien OBrien, Shane Conaire, Ciaran McManus and Aiden McLoughlin.

Amhranaíocht Aonair

Solo Singing had 5 competitors through to the finals with Aughawillan, Sean OHeslins, St Marys, Ballinamore and Melvin Gaels all hoping for a win. Elaine Duignan took the title for the Ballinamore club.

Ceol Uirlise

There were three groups in the music, Aughnasheelin, Leitrim Gaels and Dromahair. Leitrim Gaels group of Mick Blake, Cyril Geoghgan, KevinÓgeoghgan, SeanÓgeoghgan and Gerard Mc Andrew repeated their success of 2008 and 2009 and will be hoping for another trip to Killarney in 2010.

Aithriseoireacht

Louise Staunton won the recitation for Bornacoola, also competing were St Marys, Carrigallen and Melvin Gaels.

Bailéad Ghrúpa

A fabulous performance from St Marys in the Ballad group clenching the title for them once more. This is the 3rd win in succession for the club and their competitors Laura Crossan, Laura Phillips,Clodagh Flynn, Brian Farrell and John Butler. Glencar-Manorhamilton, Aughnasheelin and Kiltubrid also gave great performances.

Trath na gCeist

Question Time was won by the Bornacoola team of Aiden Dockery, Louise Staunton and Liam Rabitte, 6 in a row for the trio. Their whirlwind of knowledge seeing off teams from Sean OHeslins, Allen Gaels and Ballinamore Hurling team who also scored very high marks.

Nuachleas

Novelty Act was won by Sean OHeslins with Raymond McHugh/Brendan Brennan, Rowena ORourke, Ross Doonan, Brid OSuillivan and Paddy Prior. The club having won the All-Ireland title last year will be hoping to go the distance in the Connaught final and repeat their success. Hilarious and entertaining sketches by Drumreilly, Aughnasheelan and Kiltrubrid.

Rince Seit

Glencar-Manorhamilton team of Barbara Byrne, Claire Murray, Nicole OHara, Amanda Sweeney, Aiden Mc Loughlin, Shane Conaire, Ciaran Mc Manus and Michael Rooney won the Leitrim Title for Set Dancing beating Aughnasheelan.

Club of the Year award was won By Dromahair for the first time. The Cormac MacGiolla shield was presented to Scór Officer Stephen McInerney by Joe Flynn Cathaoirleach of the Leitrim County Board.

The Connaught Final will take place this Saturday in Loughrea Co Galway at 6pm.

Leitrim U21s V Mayo

The Leitrim U21 team pushed Mayo all the way in the Cadburys U21 Football Championship Quarter Final game played in Cloone last night. 

The large attendance of supporters were treated to an entertaining game of football which hung in the balance right up to the final whistle.  Leitrim started brightly and took a two-point lead in the opening seven minutes but Mayo, who took the lead for the first time in the 21st minute went in ahead at the break, 0-7 to 0-5.  After the restart, Mayo increased their lead with a converted free and a point from play by the 36th minute.  From here on in, Leitrim dominated quite an amount of the play and closed the gap on Mayo to two points by the 56th minute. Unfortunately, they were not able to bridge the gap further and Mayo ensured victory with late points to leave the final score Leitrim 0-9, Mayo 0-13.  Mayo now meet Roscommom in the Semi Final to be played on St Patricks Day.

Leitrim Ladies Notes

Club League & Championship Fixtures:

At our last County Board meeting the League and Championship fixtures were ratified. All fixtures will be up on our website. www.leitrimgaa.ie . This will be updated on a weekly basis. First round of the league for most clubs will start on March 21st.

Registration Deadline:

New players registration will have to be in with Tracey Costello – County Registrar by the 12th March, If your player is not registered she will not be able to play.

Minor Training:

The County minors training will take place this Saturday at 12:30pm in Aughavas. Minors first game is away to Roscommon on the 5th April.

U16 Training:

U16 training will take place Wednesday at 7:15pm in Kiltubrid.

Code of Ethics Course- Leitrim Sports Partnership:

This will take place on 12th April in the Council offices Carrick on Shannon. This course will cost €20.00 per person. Please encourage as many trainers as possible to attend and also any Childrens Officers who have not already attended the Code of Ethics course.

Coaching & Referees Course:

Please forward names of members interested in the following courses to Patricia Bohan-Development Officer.
Referees (Beginners) – 1 day Referees (Refresher Course) – 1 day
Fundamentals Coaching – 1 day Level 1 Coaching – 2 Days (Participants must have completed Fundamentals Course)
There is a minimum number of required participants and it is envisaged that courses can be arranged in any of the above areas as soon as possible.

County Committee Meeting Postponed

It is with deep regret that we inform you that Kevin Reynolds, son of Mary & Shay Reynolds Bornacoola passed away, RIP.

Accordingly tonights meeting of Coiste Chontae Liatroma has been postponed and will now take place in Áras Mhic Shamhrain, Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, ar Luan, 15 Marta at 8.30pm.

Leitrim V Clare Report

An injury time point sealed victory for Clare against a shell-shocked Leitrim who dominated proceedings throughout in Cusack Park yesterday (7/3/10).

Despite the loss it is only fair to point out that the Leitrim team had excellent performances throughout the side and every player gave their all in the pursuit of victory.  17 points was a great score to accumulate and to have lost having registered that score was obviously devastating for the panel at the final whistle.

The team led 0-9 to 0-5 at the break but rued registering eight wides from play.  In the second half, the team led by 0-13 to 0-7 when the Banner hauled themselves back into it when they goaled.  Despite this setback the team held firm but with six minutes remaining another goal broke Leitrim hearts.  This score tied the contest and both sides exchanged points from play before Clare got the winning point in injury time to leave Leitrim devastated at the final whistle.

All in all, alot of positives can be taken from the game and one would only hope that the individual and team performance keep steadily improving as they are and that lady luck would shine on the team for the rest of the season.
