An injury time point sealed victory for Clare against a shell-shocked Leitrim who dominated proceedings throughout in Cusack Park yesterday (7/3/10).
Despite the loss it is only fair to point out that the Leitrim team had excellent performances throughout the side and every player gave their all in the pursuit of victory. 17 points was a great score to accumulate and to have lost having registered that score was obviously devastating for the panel at the final whistle.
The team led 0-9 to 0-5 at the break but rued registering eight wides from play. In the second half, the team led by 0-13 to 0-7 when the Banner hauled themselves back into it when they goaled. Despite this setback the team held firm but with six minutes remaining another goal broke Leitrim hearts. This score tied the contest and both sides exchanged points from play before Clare got the winning point in injury time to leave Leitrim devastated at the final whistle.
All in all, alot of positives can be taken from the game and one would only hope that the individual and team performance keep steadily improving as they are and that lady luck would shine on the team for the rest of the season.
Final score from Cusack Park, Clare 2-12, Leitrim 0-17.
Leitrim scorers: M Foley 0-8 (0-7f), P Howard 0-3, D OConnor, J Glancy (Glencar Manor) 0-2 each, P McGuinness, D Sweeney 0-1 each.
Leitrim: G Phelan, D Reynolds (Annaduff), J McKeon, D Beck, J Glancy (St Marys), G Reynolds, S Foley, T Beirne, D Sweeney, P McGuinness, D OConnor, M Foley, P Howard, J Glancy (Glencar/Manorhamilton), D Gilhooly. Subs: D Reynolds (St Marys) for Glancy (St Marys, 26), B Prior for D Reynolds (Annaduff) (h-t), C Clarke for S Foley, D ODonnell for Howard (63), S Canning for Sweeney (63).

Leitrim GAA rocked by double injury blow
County FootballLeitrim GAA has been rocked by the news that star players Emlyn Mulligan and Colin Regan have both suffered cruciate ligament injuries.
In a devastating blow for the Melvin Gaels Club and our County, Emlyn was injured in a Club game last weekend while Colin was injured during a club training session. Both players now face the long road of intensive rehabilitation.
Leitrim are already without the influential Declan Maxwell, who had surgery for an ongoing problem with an ankle injury last week and will be laid up for the remainder of the league.
Leitrim are already absorbing the losses through emigration of Gary McCloskey and Adrian OFlynn to London and Pat Gilmartin to New Zealand.
Leitrim GAA take this opportunity to wish Emlyn, Colin and Declan all the best in their respective recoveries.

Fermanagh 1-16 Leitrim 0-14
Fermanagh scored a decisive win over Leitrim at the end of a tough battle in Brewster Park, Enniskillen on Sunday.
Leitrim got off to a great start and dominated the first 20 minutes where they led by 0-6 to 0-3. However, just before half time, Fermanagh got a rather fortuitous goal and added a point to leave the sides level at half time.
Midway through the second half, there was nothing between the sides but in the last 15 minutes of the game, Leitrim seemed to run out of steam and Fermanagh ran out 5 point winners.
Leitrim Team ; Paul McKiernan, Kevin McGrath, Davis Tiernan, Sean McWeeney, Kieran Boyle, Vinnie McDermott, Michael Poniard (0-1), Keith Connolly (0-2), Clement Cunniffe (0-5,3f), Conor Burns, Ian Bermingham (0-3,2f), Fearghal Carroll, Mick Burns, Dan OBrien, Liam Burns. Gallogly Catering ACL Divisions 1 & 2 commence
Club FootballThis weekend sees the start of league competition for Division 1 & 2 teams. This year, Gallogly Catering sponsor the All County Leagues (Divisions 1-5). Below we take a brief look at the games.
In Division 1, Glencar Manorhamilton take the first step in their quest to retain their league title with a re-match of last years league final against Kiltubrid. This match is a home game for Manor and last years league encounter resulted in a draw so expect a tight game here.
Melvin Gaels host Ballinamore SOH in Kinlough and the loss of some key players to Melvin Gaels and the progress of Ballinamore in the Senior ranks could see a tight encounter here. Melvin Gaels are extremely difficult to beat at home but Ballinamore SOH will test them.
Allen Gaels and St Marys (both under new local management teams) will be hoping to gain bragging rights in a local derby match to be played in Drumshanbo – youd be wise to make a prediction on this one!
Dromahair (the oldest club in Leitrim) make their debut in the Senior ranks against Aughawillan who just survived in Division 1 on the last day of the season last year. If Dromahair show the same pride as they did in gaining promotion and in the Celebrity Bainisteoir competition – they will not be found wanting in Division 1.
Annaduff and Carrigallen are both under new management. Michael Moyles (Former Mayo Player and Sligo Minor Manager) and Dominic Corrigan (Former Sligo and Fermanagh Manager) are at the helm in both clubs respectively and big things are expected in both camps. Although Carrigallen are newly promoted – if their performance in the County Final last year is anything to go by – they will be tough opposition for all Division 1 sides this year. However, Annaduff are extremely difficult to get the better off on home soil so an interesting game in store by all accounts!
Drumreilly host Mohill in the last Division 1 game and perhaps the loss of Declan Maxwell to Drumreilly and the return of Shane Canning to Mohill may be the difference in this one.
In Division 2 Bornacoola and Aughnasheelin will be hoping to make a quick return to Division 1 and while Bornacoola should account for Eslin in their game, Aughnasheelin will have to be at their best to match Aughavas who have home advantage and will still be on a high after winning the Junior A Championship. 2009 Intermediate Champions Cloone host promoted Ballinaglera who were Division 3 League Finalists last year – this game should be a cracker. Newly promoted Glencar Manor make the short trip to Drumkeerin while Glenfarne Kiltyclogher make the long journey to Gortletteragh and as all 4 sides are evenly matched – tight games should be on the cards in both.
