To All Leitrim Supporters

The Leitrim GAA Supporters (Dublin Branch) invites you to attend the Supporters Club Annual Launch on Thursday 28nd January 2010 at 8.30 pm in the Herbert Park Hotel, Ballsbridge, and Dublin. (Entrance of Anglesea Rd,).

The 2010 Supporters Club will be launched by Gortletteragh native Joe Sorohan of Sorohan Builders. Joe is a former Gortletteragh stalwart, a former Leitrim senior footballer and was a selector on Leitrims history making 1977 U 21 Connacht Championship success.

The team management, Mickey Moran and John Morrison will brief the meeting on their plans for the forthcoming season. Leitrim play the winners of Roscommon v London in the Connacht Semi-final on the 20th June.

Last month there was a change of county board officers under the five year rule. We are delighted to welcome to the launch the new Chairman of Leitrim Co Board, Joe Flynn, Carrick on Shannon. Joe is a former Principal of Carrick on Shannon Community School and will update the meeting on the new County Board officers.

Gerry McGovern the outgoing Chairman of the County Board will update the meeting on the Annaduff training Centre.

This will be another great occasion for Leitrim people to get together. Please spread the word to anyone from Leitrim who would like to attend. The night promises to be a very sociable occasion.

Tea/ Coffee will be served from 8.00 p.m. with the compliments of the Herbert Park Hotel.  A Bus will travel from Leitrim to facilitate those interested in attending the event.  Please contact  Diarmuid Sweeney regarding same.

We very much look forward to seeing you on the night.

Leitrim shared the points with GMIT in the opening game of the FBD League played in Cloone yesterday.

The experimental rules were on show for the first time and the fisted hand pass proved difficult for both teams to execute properly. Despite the desperate weather conditions over the previous weekends the Cloone pitch was in ideal condition and both sides served up an entertaining hours football.

Leitrim were the more industrious of the two sides in the first half with GMIT having the better of the exchanges in the second half.

Perhaps the lack of collective training (due to the weather) by the Leitrim team since January was a factor as the game entered the final quarter. It is worth noting that the College teams are not affected by the "closed season" in November and December. All in all alot of positives can be taken from the game and well done to 3 players who made their senior debuts, namely Paddy Maguire, Wayne McKeon and Ronan Kennedy.

Final score Leitrim 1-11, GMIT 0-14.

The County Finals of Scór na nÓg took place last Sunday in the Community Centre in Ballinamore. Fourteen clubs were on stage as almost 160 participants provided the best in Irish cultural activity, music, song and dance.

It was great to see such a packed hall and with the cream of the crop of leitrims finest entertainment provided for the audience.  The adjudicators had a difficult job to do to settle on winners, as the standard was very high in all events. All of the winners received Scór medals presented by James Glancy of the Glencar-Manorhamilton Club and Leitrim County Player. Also, all participants received a Scór na nÓg Certificate indicating that they had participated in the County Finals.

A special mention must be given to the Fenagh Set Dancers who scooped the Leitrim Title for their 10th year running, a fine achievement by the Club.

Thank you to Fear a Tí for the night, Karl McCartin from Drumreilly who did an excellent job and helped to keep the event running smoothly for the afternoon. Overall, Scór na nÓg in Leitrim is a credit to the Clubs and Coiste Scór Liatroma for the effort they put into the event. The Cormac MacGiolla Shield for Club na Bliana was won by the Aughnasheelan club and was presented to Brendan Sammon.
