An online meeting of Coiste Chontae Liatroma took place earlier tonight via MS Teams, at which the referred motions from last Monday night’s Convention Clár were discussed and decided on. The motions and the decisions are outlined below.

2022 Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship
Senior Football Championship to consist of 10 teams with rounds 1 to 4 to be an open draw. The draw, if possible, and at the discretion of CCC Liatroma, to take place on the weekend prior to the following weekend’s set of games. The draw to factor in that each club to have two home and two away games at the round-robin stages. Teams can only play a team once in the group stages. After the round-robin games are complete the top 2 teams with the highest number of points automatically qualify for the semi-finals with the teams that finish 3rd to 6th to play off in the quarter-finals. (3rd plays 6th, 4th plays 5th) semi-finals to be open draw. The teams finishing 7th to 10th to play in relegation semi-finals (7th plays 10th, 8th plays 9th) with the two defeated teams to play the relegation final, the defeated team in this relegation final to play IFC 2023.

Semi-Final Draw to ensure that the top placed teams avoid each other at this stage. Winner of Junior A Championship promoted to IFC 2022. The bottom-placed team in each group to be relegated in addition to the defeated team of a relegation final to be played between the fourth-placed teams in the groups.

In the event of there being 9 teams, these are to be grouped into three groups of 3. Top teams in each group plus the best runner-up in accordance with Rule 6.21 TO 2021 shall play semi-finals, avoiding teams from the same group playing at this stage. Winner of Junior B Championship promoted to JFCA 2022. Bottom teams of each respective group to be relegated to JFC C 2023. In the event of there being 8 teams these to be grouped in two groups of four. The top two teams in each group shall play semi-finals (1 v 2, 2 v 1). Bottom teams of each respective group to be relegated.
There shall be no seeding in this draw.
Junior C Corrib Oil Football Championship 2022
The Relegated Team from the 2021 Junior B Championship plus any additional teams that are eligible and participating in 2022(to a maximum of 5 teams). This competition is to be played in a single round-robin format with the top team qualifying for the final and 2 v 3 plays semi-final match. In the event of there being six teams participating, teams to be placed in two groups of three teams each. Top two teams in each group will play semi-finals (1 v 2 and 2 v 1).
No promotion from JFC C in 2022 only. There shall be no seeding in this draw.

Other Motions
That for championship purposes, that any team that plays Senior championship names 17 players that aren’t eligible to play second team championship football and a further 15 if they are entering a third team. Naomh Muire Cill Tochairt (Motion withdrawn)
That at any level within the county, a club should not enter a 15 a side competition, only knowingly having the intention to play 13 aside. Players on both sides are losing out on playing time, and this is unfair to players and is not in the spirit of our GAA ethos. To accommodate clubs that do not have sufficient players to enter a second or third team, that these clubs be allowed to amalgamate together within their region and be entered into the Corrib Oil Junior C competitions only. In the event of a club’s home pitch not being playable, the given fixture (league or group stage championship) will automatically revert to the away team’s home ground. GeneralLeitrim GAA Supporters Club will charter a bus to Semple Stadium, Thurles, for next Sunday’s Allianz League Division Four match with Tipperary if there are sufficient numbers interested. Leitrim GAA’s 50 miles in January 2022 gets off to a Flying start!
50MilesChallengeIn January 2021, Leitrim GAA organized a 50mile challenge to encourage participants to shake off the restrictions of the Covid regime and discover the beautiful walks in the county and benefit from walking and exercising in the open air.
It was successful beyond expectation with many of the Leitrim diaspora across the world participating. The second annual 50 miles in January challenge commenced earlier this month and the challenge has been taken up with gusto by Leitrim People from all around the world as well as here in Ireland.
With 1,700 hats already distributed there are Leitrim people walking in the 50 miles challenge in nine different countries, including, Australia, Austria, Canada, Dominican Republic, United Kingdom, United States, Denmark and Spain. There are 212 people already taking part in the United States, and 36 in the United Kingdom, in addition people are walking in 27 out of the 32 counties across Ireland with 1,191 registered for the challenge in Leitrim there are 75 registered in Dublin and 27 registered in Roscommon. Already in the second week of January almost €65,000 has been raised to fund the preparation of County Teams by those taking part.
Leitrim County Council is delighted to partner with the GAA on this initiative. The potential reach to the Leitrim Diaspora at home and abroad and the opportunity to promote the County as a destination for visiting, relocating to or starting a business in gives the Council a readymade opportunity to assist in having the awareness of the county raised across the world. Leitrim County Council has identified several key synergies between this initiative and its potential in assisting the Council in achieving objectives in relation to diaspora engagement, tourism promotion, outdoor recreation in the county, and to support other sectoral initiatives.
County Leitrim has a significant offering in terms of quality of life for those living here or indeed those members of the diaspora who may want to consider a future return home. Quality employment is available in many sectors including Hospitality, Services, Retail, Public Service and technology focused businesses with Vistamed for example recently announcing the recruitment of 100 members of staff at their Carrick on Shannon site. In addition the County offers quality childcare and education facilities, sporting and leisure facilities are all of an excellent standard.

While all of those participating are walking in their local areas, you may be interested to see the range and quality of walks in the County, from walks in Towns and Village, to Forest Walks, Canal and Lakeside Walks, looped and long Distance walks for all abilities, and if you don’t get to try them during January you may get a chance to explore on your next visit home.

GeneralLeitrim GAA is very pleased that its latest newsletter has included recognition for our County Final Match Programmes in view of the fact that its attention to detail recorded the townlands of the various players involved. County PRO Barbara Loughlin Byrne is the Leitrim GAA PRO responsible for the production of the Match Programmes and the inclusion of the minute detail of the players’ townlands has been in operation over the past decade, a brainchild of former Leitrim County Librarian, Ballinamore man, Seán Ó Súilleabháin.
