It is with great regret that Leitrim GAA hears of the death a past president of the county board and one of our greatest supporters Teresa Bohan. Teresa served as president of Coiste Chontae Liatroma from 2002 for 3 years until 2004.

Eamonn Duignan, Chairman of the Leitrim Supporters Club and friend of the Bohan family sums up Teresas dedication to the GAA:

"It is with great sadness I learn of the death of Teresa Bohan. As youngsters growing up in Mohill she came to all our matches from U 12 to senior, inÓgood weather & bad. She travelled to a lot of matches in my fathers car and in later years was my mothers companion to both club and county matches. After club matches whether you played well or not she bought you a 99 in Pauls. She could be depended upon to defend her team if they played well or not. In her long life supporting both Mohill & Leitrim she saw as many defeats as victories but was never discouraged. She was a source of inspiration to everyone who played football in both the Mohill & Leitrim Colours. May she rest in peace."

Glencar/Manor easily overcame the challenge of Bornacoola in Sundays Leitrim senior club championship football final in Carrick-on-Shannon where the north Leitrim side won with eight points to spare.  Following on from what was their first County Final victory in nine years Glencar/Manor will now face newly crowned Sligo Champions, Eastern Harps in the Connacht Club championship quarter-final in Markievicz Park on Sunday, October 19.

A 27th minute goal, which Darren Sweeney flicked to the Bornacoola net, put Glencar/Manor on top against Bornacoola.

Bornacoola, who had County midfielder Michael Duignan red carded in injury time, impressed in the opening eight minutes when they took a two points lead after Philip Howard and Mark McCloskey shot a point each.

Glencar/Manor levelled matters by the end of the first quarter after Adrian Croal hit a point and Alan Sweeney converted a free.

Bornacoola trailed by 0 – 3 to 1 – 6 at halftime. After the restart Bornacoola reduced Glencar/Manors lead in the first six minutes of the second half with points from a Mark McCloskey free and from play by David OConnor.

But thenÓglencar/Manor finished strongly after Gary Hickey opened their second half account when he put over a 44th minute free.

Over the next seven minutes Bornacoolas David OConnor and Mark McCloskey traded points with Glencar/Manors James Glancy and Darren Sweeney.

Glencar/Manor sub Anthony McDonald won a penalty before the end when he was taken down by Bornacoola ‘keeper, Gerry Gearty.

Following todays washout the CCC met this evening and in consultation with the teams have decided to reschedule the Intermediate Championship Final to tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm in Cloone.  This situation is not ideal but both clubs wish to complete the championship with the winners having the chance to prepare for the Connacht Clubs game against Sligo opponents on Oct 19th.

The Junior A game will be rescheduled for a later date and the Minor and Senior games are still on the schedule subject to a pitch inspection tomorrow morning.  The minor throw-in is fixed for 1:15pm while the Senior is at 3:00pm.

The young under 8s footballers of Tir Conaill Harps returned to Glasgow unbeaten after an action packed weekend of coaching and football in Connacht. They were hosted by the Shannon Gaels club in Roscommon who organised a fantastic five team Go Games tournament in Croghan, which was played inÓgreat spirit with all the participants receiving plenty of encouragement. Prior to the tournament Peter Carney was on hand to host a coaching session with local coaches and the children from the five clubs.

At a days notice the Sean O Heslins club in Ballinamore organised a game for us when a tournament we were to take part in was cancelled due to a bereavement. We really appreciate the club doing this for us as we dont get games inÓglasgow. We hope that the club will come back on a return trip to Scotland some time in the future.

If any club is interested in bringing underage teams on a trip to Scotland contact me on any of the numbers below.

On Saturday last our under 14 hurlers took part in the Veronica Connolly/Mickey Cunniffe inter County hurling blitz hosted by the Padraig Pearses GAA club Roscommon.
The lads played very well, topping their group with wins over selections from Mayo and Roscommon but were very unlucky to lose the final by a goal to Sligo. Congrats to all involved especially Bernard Murray for all his work over the season and also to the Sean OHeslins club for the use of their grounds.

Drumkeerin are as busy off the field as they are on it with the launch this week of their brand new website.  County final week is a good week to launch the site which is just finished.  It is a very polished affair and full of very interesting pages including a very informative section on the clubs history.  The lotto, news, fixtures and photo gallery are just a few of the sections included in the site design.

The site is designed by Francis Redican who has utilised modern programming methods to produce a fast dynamic site.  The colour schemes and navigation menus are easy on the eye and very effective.

Well done to Francis and all concerned,  the club can definately be proud of this fine production as they prepare for the Intermediate final on Saturday.

Scór na mBunscoileanna
Details have now been circulated to all schools in the County about Scór na mBunscoileanna. Last year 17 schools took part at two venues. This year it is hoped to run a North Leitrim event if enough schools are willing to take part. So we are particularly asking North Leitrim schools to take part in a least a few events. Some items are more easily organised than others, solo singing, solo dance, solo music, recitation and question time are relatively easy to get going. The two South Leitrim events are scheduled for Thursday 6 November in Ballinamore and on Friday 7 November in St Marys Hall, Carrick on Shannon. The North Leitrim event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5 November.

Scór na nÓg
Dates have also been set for Scór na nÓg. The two semi-finals are on Saturday 6 December in Ballinamore and on Sunday 7 December in Carrick on Shannon. The finals will be in Manorhamilton on Sunday 4 January 2009. Dances which are excluded this year are: Rince Foirne; Trip to the Cottage, 8 Hand Reel. Rince Seit; Cavan Reel set.

Scór Sinsear
It may seem a long way off but club Scór officers are often asking early about Scór Sinsear dates. Well dates have been set and are as follows. Semi-finals on 6th and 7th March with the Co Finals on 14 March 2009

40 years of Scór Sinsear
This is the 40th year of Scór, it all started in 1970 on a small scale and of course is now the biggest cultural event of the winter months. It is expected that all clubs will make a greater effort to participate in this the 40th year. It is also planned to have some special events to mark the occasion.

Comhbhrón
The Scór community was saddened to learn of the death of Josephine Brogan last week. Josephine was a stalwart of the Aughnasheelin Novelty Act team and won a County Scór title in Nuachleas with Aughnasheelin in 2006. Go ndéana Dia trócaire uirthí.

Linda suffered heartbreak in last years final with London,  but bounced back with an impressive display to comprehensively outscore Derry and lift the West County Hotel cup. In an entertaining game Linda gave her usual  full hearted performance at wing half back and was delighted with her teams performance and sucess. Well done Linda from all in Leitrim.

The search for County players is never ending and the new management team, who are currently working with an initial group of players, wish to view all potential county players over the coming weeks.

The first trial for the county team takes place this Sunday morning, Oct 5th.  Those involved in the initial trial will be contacted by a Liasion officer this week.

Watch out for further notices as it is intended that the initial trials will continue through out October to allow as many potential players as possible the best chance to prove their ability.

If you are not contacted but are genuinely interested and have what it takes and wish to participate then let us know your interest via your club secretary.
