To mark the culmination of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, Electric Ireland, in partnership with the GAA, has opened nominations for the 2021 Electric Ireland GAA Minor Special Recognition Awards, which will champion the outstanding off-the-pitch contributions of two Minor players during 2021.

The two unique Electric Ireland GAA awards will take into consideration the difficulties experienced this year by players and communities across the country and will see Electric Ireland recognise Minors who have gone above and beyond in their community during the challenges of Covid-19 – with one Minor honoured in each code – one hurler & one footballer.

The Electric Ireland GAA Minor Special Recognition Awards will be open to GAA players of Minor age at both club and county level and aim to bring a major moment back into this age group’s lives. Having missed out on a host of coming-of-age moments over the past eighteen months, the award will recognise that what these Minors have been doing for their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic, truly is major.

To nominate an extraordinary contribution made by a Minor during the course of the year, simply visit https://www.electricireland.ie/MinorAwards. Nominations can be made by any individual, parent, guardian, volunteer, club official or county official individual or sporting body. Nominations for the awards will close at 5pm sharp on September 1st, 2021.

We believe it is incredibly important to recognise the major impact of this brilliant age group, particularly in what has been an extremely challenging year for all.

Please do let us know if you have any questions or queries regarding the awards and the nomination process. You can also view the 2020 Special Recognition Award winners here.

Leitrim GAA has begun the process of recruiting its Senior Football Team Manager for 2022. An email has been sent to all Leitrim GAA Clubs inviting them to consider possible nominations of suitably qualified personnel. The Club is advised that they must have the permission of the person they may choose to nominate, before doing so.

In addition to this, Leitrim GAA Management Committee, through its Selection Committee, invites applications from persons who may have an interest in the position. Interested parties should apply in writing and submit a CV with details of coaching qualifications, details of previous GAA Management experience, and any other details that the candidate may consider relevant for consideration by email to secretary.leitrim@gaa.ie by Friday, August 27th. Additional detail of a possible backroom team that may accompany any such application is desirable but not necessary. Any queries with regard to this process may be addressed via email to the secretary.

The Selection Committee will give all nominations and applications fair consideration as part of the ongoing process in the selection of Leitrim GAA’s next Senior Football Manager.

Leitrim GAA has been informed by Senior Team Manager Terry Hyland that he has decided to step down from the role. We wish to express our eternal gratitude to Terry and his entire backroom team, for the professional, wholehearted, and energetic manner in which they have carried out their respective duties to the team and all associated with it over the past three seasons. In his first year in charge, Terry oversaw the Allianz League promotion to Division 3 in 2019 and a rare appearance in a Croke Park Final which gave Leitrim GAA, its players, and supporters the biggest lift since the days of 1994. Over what has been the most difficult sixteen months in living memory since the onset of the Covid pandemic, Terry and his management team managed to navigate our players through difficult times for all concerned, while always respecting and abiding by the various levels of restrictions that we have experienced across these unprecedented times. Progress was inevitably affected by the huge disruptions that this caused to all involved.
Leitrim GAA is hugely appreciative and proud of its association with Terry and his professional and practical manner of dealing with both the board and its players over his three seasons in charge. We appreciate his many sacrifices on our behalf. Indeed his contribution to the activities of Leitrim GAA went way beyond those expected from a Senior Team Manager, particularly during the course of the pandemic. We will be always grateful for his very positive efforts with us and the wealth of experience he brought to the role of Leitrim Senior Team Manager. We wish Terry the very best of luck in the future.
We wish to also acknowledge the excellent contributions of Jason O Reilly, Gary Donohoe, Padraig McGourty, Kevin Downes, Padraig Dolan, Damien Eames, Colin McCabe, Shane Bohan, Fergal Wynne, Alan Loftus, and Ronan O Rourke as the various members of Terry’s backroom team over the past three years, while not forgetting the unsung heroes Leo Duignan, Kevin Lee and Brian Blake.

Leitrim GAA are sad to hear of the passing of Kitty Nangle Castleknock Dublin. Kitty was a fanatical Dub supporter married to a fanatical Leitrim supporter the late Gerry Nangle who passed away on the 25th April 2019.

Kitty became known to everybody when she told her story to Eileen Magnier  on the RTE main evening news at the official opening of the Leitrim GAA Centre of Excellence.
