Intermediate 9 Aside Shield Final

St Josephs 6-10 Dromahair 3-03

St Josephs captured the first Adult silverware of the season when they proved too strong for Dromahair in the Intermediate 9 Aside final. The final scoreline was in stark contrast to the score of the previous meeting when St Josephs escaped with a one point victory. While St Josephs were a full strength Dromahair missed the very influential Anna Conlon. Once St Josephs got going, they dominated in most areas of the field and moved the ball swiftly and Dromahair could not contain their lighting strikes. St Josephs created openings early on but had a number of wides.

The opening score fell to Dromahair where Erin Farrell finished of a lovely move with a cool finish to the net. A minute later the Fowley sisters linked up and Róisin fired over from close range. Vanessa Gallogly then came to St Josephs aid when she blocked a goal bound shot. Dromahair for whom Leonie Conlon and Eimear McDermott in the backline were outstanding resisted St Josephs attacks until the 12 minute. Sharon Kerrigan fed Michelle Heslin and she soloed through to goal. Dromhair were dealt another body blow when Leonie Conlon went of injured. Michelle Heslin added another goal a minute later and St Josephs were in front for the first time.

Áine Heslin finished of another move that started from their goal line. Sinead Fowley was brought down in front of the St Josephs goal and the free was easily scored. With two minutes to go to half time Dromahair trailed 1-02 to 2-01. However two late goals by the Heslins twins left an uphill struggle for Dromahair playing against the wind in the second half. From the first whistle St Josephs controlled the second half. Two points in the first minute by Clare Owens and Michelle Heslin were signs of what was to come. Sandra Brady played a long ball in Michelle Heslin latched on to it and goaled easily to give St Josephs a 13 point lead. Erin Farrell responded with a cracking goal. But St Josephs continued to dominate around the middle where Sharon Kerrigan and Alana Bohan were superb.

Points from Aisling Cooke, Sandra Brady Michelle Heslin and Brady again added to the St Josephs tally before Michelle Dolan interrupted the St Josephs run. However with good ball going into the St Josephs forward line the points continued from Louise Mollahgan, Edel McLoughlin, and Mary McBrien. Erin Farrell showed great strength and skill to goal but St Josephs finished the Scóring through Lisa McDermott

Starting Teams:

St Josephs

He was closely associated with Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada as he was a member of the committee that purchased the grounds in 1964 and was chairman of the committee for 34 years until his retirement in 1995.

The underage teams continue to do well. The County U12 team take part in the Mayo Blitz in Kiltimagh this Saturday. We wish them all the best of luck. Leitrim not to compete in the 2008 TG4 Connacht and All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship The Ladies Gaelic Football Association wishes to confirm that Leitrim will not be participating in the 2008 TG4 Connacht Senior Football Championship or the TG4 All-Ireland series.  This unfortunate situation has arisen due to circumstances within the county and while it is regrettable in the short term, new structures are being put in place that will ensure that this type of situation should not arise again.  The Ladies Gaelic Football Association is confident that the necessary structures will be quickly put in place in Leitrim and that the county will be in a position to compete in next year’s League and Senior Championship.  Geraldine Giles, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association said: “Leitrim have contributed hugely to Ladies Football in the last number of years, competing in a Junior All-Ireland final in 2006 and winning a thrilling Intermediate Championship final against Wexford in Croke Park last year.  “What has happened in the last few months has been an unfortunate series of events which has led to the situation whereby Leitrim cannot compete to the level they would have hoped for this season. As a result, Leitrim will not be taking part in the 2008 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Championship. However, I am sure that Leitrim will be back even stronger next season.  “The new structures in place within the next few months will stand the county and its dedicated players, administrators and supporters inÓgood stead into the future.”
