Longford 2-10 Leitrim 0-6
A cracking goal from Paul Barden with 26 minutes gone in the first half put Longford on the road to a comfortable victory over neighbours Leitrim at Pearse Park.
Prior to the goal, Leitrim led by 0-3 to 0-2 with points from Michael Foley, James Glancy and Ciaran Duignan. Longford scored from frees by Francis McGee and Brian KavanÓgh.
Further points from wing back Noel Farrell (free) and McGee — the latter landing a fine strike from play — left Longford 1-4 to 0-3 in front at the break.
When Leitrim right half-back Stephen Feeney surged forward to fire over a point midway through the second half, just a goal separated the sides, but Longfords class and conditioning came to the fore as they dominated the final quarter.
Luke Dempseys slick side added another 1-5 to their tally with KavanÓgh and McGee notching two points apiece, while corner-back Dermot Brady joined the attack to fist over the bar in the closing minutes of the game.
The second Longford goal in the 64th minute was the result of a well-worked move, second half substitute Liam Keenan playing the ball into McGee who planted his shot into the corner of the net to send Leitrim towards a 10-point losing margin.

Suzuki National League Leitrim v Clare
LadiesThe Senior team put in a vastly improved performance against Clare in Div 2 of the Suzuki National League. Leitrim started brightly and carried the game to Clare but were denied by tenacious defending; Leitrim had the wind in their backs in the first half but had to settle for 3 Naomi Lee frees. The half time score read Clare 1-03 Leitrim 0-03. Leitrim still had lots of possession in the second half but had only a Michelle Reynolds goal to show for all their efforts. In the last 10 minutes Clare pulled away by Scóring 5 points and 2 fortuitous goals. Best for Leitrim were Anna Conlon at centre back and Sarah McManus in midfield. The County Committee are indebted to Brendan McCawley and Ann Marie Cox who have temporarily taken over the reins of the Senior team as the County Committee go in search of a new management team. Unfortunately our selection committee of Pat McWeeney, Helen Ward and Damian Brennan had to step down due to time commitments after the Westmeath game. We want to thank them for their great service to Ladies football over many years and no doubt whey will be involved again. The U14 had a good workout with Longford and the management of Pat McWeeney, Bernie McLoughlin and Kieran Moran are will pleased with the performances of all the players as they try and blend a new team together. Trials for the U16 team are taking place in Ballinaglera this Saturday March 1st at 12pm. Clubs are asked to send all prospective players to the trials.

No success for Leitrim in All Ireland Scór na nÓg
ScórNone of the four Leitrim clubs were successful at the All Ireland Scór na nÓg Finals in Athlone on Saturday last. It was disappointing for the Mohill, Aughnasheelin, Sean OHeslins and St Caillins clubs but the standard in all competitions was extremely high. All of the Leitrim performances were on a par with the others but when the results were announced there were none in the winners list. However, most of the contestants are still eligible for next year when we are sure they will have another go at the various competitions.
Scór Sinsear
Next Friday is the deadline for entries for Scór Sinsear and all clubs are asked to have their details in with Scór Rúnaí, Maura Mulvey by then. The competitions are on the following weekend.

Fixtures masterplan dilemma for Leitrim Clubs
Club FootballAt the county board meeting of Coiste Chontae Liatroma of 11 Feabhra, a discussion around the timeframe of club fixtures for the 2008 season took place and the difficulties that face CCC Liatroma in the planning of the year ahead were pointed out, particularly with regard to the vast array of county fixtures that are due to be played at the various levels and codes, and the particular dates that apply to these fixtures and the gaps that are planned between particular games at these levels and codes.
It was pointed out and accepted by the delegates that the discussion was mainly to aScórtain views and it was not in any degree intended that decisions would be taken with regard to starting dates for competitions etc at the meeting, as this is the function of the CCC. No confirmed starting dates were made available to the meeting.
Further to this discussion the CCC are requesting at this stage that clubs consult with their delegates who were present at the meeting and, in consultation with the other interested parties in your club, CCC Liatroma would welcome your views regarding the following:
– What are your clubs views regarding approximate dates for the commencement Club Championships 2008, considering that recently and traditionally the Club Championship has not commenced until Liatroim has completed Senior Inter County activity?
– Given that, as pointed out at the meeting, this may prove to be a more difficult year to plan Club Fixtures, what would be your clubs position with regard to the suggestion of playing a number of league fixtures without county senior players?
It must be pointed out that this is a consultative process which should be viewed in the context of the points that were made at last Mondays meeting and CCC Liatroma will welcome your views on the matters as discussed on the night and mentioned here in advance of a Club Fixture Plan being committed to.
CCC Liatroma recognises the fact that club delegates could not commit to concrete views at the meeting, but points made were valued and the very fact that a consultative process was engaged in was appreciated.
Ultimately your clubs views are now invited for consideration in the planning of the 2008 Club Fixture Calendar, and in this regard submissions should be made no later than 6pm ar an Luan 18 Feabhra 2008.
It is important, in the overall context, that your club responds to this request.
A Master Fixture Plan outlining Inter County activity 2008 is available to download and very quickly shows a congested fixture schedule that leaves little room for maneuver for Club competitions. Please take the time and make the effort to have a look at the schedule as this affords every Club member a chance to have a say in the format for the year.
