To MRI & X-Ray Services At Competitive Prices From Sunday 15th July 2007
[b]Medical Services – better services, lower costs and a better deal for Players[/b]
An issue of concern that has regularly been brought to our attention is the high cost of medical treatment of our players and, specifically, the high cost of MRI scans.
We have been looking at ways of reducing the expenditure of clubs and counties in this regard and have been examining ways of nÓgotiating lower prices nationally at strategically located MRI Centres throughout the country.
As a first step towards that end, we have nÓgotiated a service level contract, on a pilot basis initially, with Northwood Imaging Ltd, which comes into effect from Sunday 15th July 2007. In addition to the player centric approach and benefits, the prices agreed with Northwood Imaging will yield considerable savings to clubs and the GAA as a whole.
[b]Value for Money[/b]
The current prices being charged to GAA players, and in most cases being covered by the Player Injury scheme, vary from between 400 to over 600 per MRI Scan. We have nÓgotiated a price of 295 for a single MRI scan and 50 for an x-ray at Northwood Imaging in Dublin. These prices are all inclusive of professional fees, copies of scans on film or on CD etc. These rates represent a significant savings to our clubs, units and County Boards and clearly signal that a good cost containment policy is sustainable and consistent with improved standards of service. If this pilot scheme operates successfully, we hope to extend it to other regions during 2008 but for the duration of the pilot project these prices will be available to all players, club and inter-county, from all 32 counties, at Northwood Imaging only.
Northwood Imagingâs state of the art diagnostic imaging centre is located just 20 minutes from Croke Park and within 10 minutes from Dublin airport. The Centre has been added to the list of approved facilities by the major accreditation/funding agencies, including the HSE, NTPF and all private medical insurers, including VHI Healthcare, Quinn Healthcare, and VIVAS Health. As an integral part of this exclusive GAA service level contract, Northwood Imaging will extend its opening hours giving GAA players and our medical support personnel unrivalled access to their services for a total of 96 hours per week

[b]How does the scheme work?[/b]
1. Make contact directly at 01-8627333 and make an MRI appointment. No appointment is necessary for an X-Ray as a walk in service is available at Northwood Imaging
2. Download and complete the relevant âMRI Scan/X-Ray Request Formâ from www.northwoodimaging.ie or on the GAA website at www.gaa.ie
[b]3. On arrival at Northwood Imaging, the player will present the necessary MRI Scan/X-Ray Request Form signed by his club or county secretary and medical doctor. All requests must be supported and signed off by registered medical practitioners.[/b]
4. The player will pay the fee of 295 (MRI) or 50 (X ray) and claim reimbursement through the GAA Player Injury scheme, subject to the rules of the scheme. If the player has Private Medical Insurance (e.g. VHI Healthcare) the necessary claim form for these insurers will be completed and no fee will be collected. (Please note that travel and accommodation expenses are not covered).
The only way we will know if this scheme is to be successful or not is if we use it at club and county level when the need arises. Please encourage all players and the medical team attached to your club/unit/county to try out the service during the course of the pilot scheme and let Paraic O Dufaigh, Bainisteoir Leasa na nImreoirÃ, or the people at Northwood Imaging know what you think of the service. All feedback and comments will be taken into account in the development of our medical services policy going forward and as we seek to develop this pilot project to other centres in 2008.

GeneralArchive results from 2004 Championships to present day are now available via the links on the left hand menu. The links covering 2004, 2005 and 2006 are located on the lower section of the menu. 2007 is on the Championship Tables link in the Clubs section. The software is designed to allow a filtered view of a club so that you can see their progress inÓgroup and final stages.
A number of queries regarding the derogation to Rial 129 have been sent in by email and via the guestbook. In order to address the queries properly the CCC will issue a statement before Friday evening with regard to their interpretation of this derogation.
In addition a more detailed set of fixtures for the Championship will also be released which give firm dates for as many fixtures as possible.

CoachingOur Vhi GAA Cul camps continued last week, with camps in Mohill, Drumshanbo and Aughawillan with large numbers attending at each venue. Jimmy OâDwyer, National co-ordinator for Vhi Cul camps paid a visit to our camp in Drumshanbo on Friday last. The weather, while very poor at times failed to spoil the fun and enjoyment for all attending. Camps continue this week in Gortletteragh, Aughavas and Dromahair. Next weeks camps will be held in Fenagh, Drumkeerin and Carrick on – Shannon. Parents are reminded that they can still register for the camps but certain kit sizes are running out of stock so please donât leave it till the last minute and be disappointed.

GeneralAll clubs are invited to this event in Ardan Mhic Samhrain (Level 3 Meeting Room), Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada on this Thursday 19th July at 8.30 pm.
This will be an opportunity for all clubs to get up to speed with Insurance Forms and Processes and any questions relating to GAA Insurance will hopefully be dealt with on the night.
It is very important for all who deal with insurance in each club to familiarise themselves with forms etc.

Fr Manning Cup
Club FootballThe Fr. Manning Cup Competition for 2007 is due to commence on Wednesday July 18th and this year the competition will be divided into two sections, a Connaught section comprising of Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo and a Leinster section comprising of Longford, Offaly and Westmeath.
The teams will play each other on a round robin basis with the top two teams in each section qualifying for the semi-finals, where they will play the respective winners and runners up of the opposing section. The semi-final winners will then play each other in the final.
Leitrim have a bye in the first round and then play Sligo on July 25th in Pairc Sean in round 2 with the round 3 encounter against Roscommon in Hyde park on August 1st.

Club HurlingThe National Standards Authority of Ireland wishes to announce the launch of a period of public comment on the following draft standards:
I. S. 356 – Playing Field Equipment Goals Functional and Safety Requirements Test Methods for Portable and Fixed Goals (Rugby /Gaelic & Soccer Goals under 5m length)
I.S. 357- Playing Field Equipment Goals Code of Practice on the Procurement, Installation, Maintenance, Inspection and Storage
These standards have been prepared by the NSAI Technical Committee onÓgoal Safety in response to fatal accidents involving defective, modified, unstable or incorrectly anchored goals.
I.S. 356:
This Irish Standard has been developed for those involved in the Manufacture and Testing of new goals and specifies Functional and Safety requirements for portable and fixed goals.
It specifies the functional requirements for portable and fixed goals for rugby, hurling and gaelic football, and soccer goals under 5,0 m length.
It is applicable to goals used for recreational, training or competition in indoor or outdoor areas. It is not applicable to goals that are classed as toys.
I.S. 357:
This Irish Standard has been developed specifically for those that are involved in the procurement, installation, maintenance, inspection and storage of goals.
It gives guidance for the procurement, installation, maintenance, storage and inspection, of goals. It also gives guidance for their inspection and testing by the owner.
It is applicable to goals that are used for recreational play, training and competitions in indoor or outdoor areas. It is not applicable to goals that are classed as toys.
This period of comment will be from the 29th of June until the 10th of August 2007.

Aughavas make history with online Lotto sales

Our Vhi GAA Cul camps have commenced last week with camps in Manorhamilton, Ck on Shannon and Aughawillan. The weather, while very poor at times failed to spoil the fun and enjoyment for all attending. We would ask parents of all children who attended our camp in Aughawillan to check their childâs kit bag, as a Manchester United jersey got misplaced and must be in the bottom of some bag. Finding this jersey would make a very good week even better for one little boy. Next weeks camps will be held in Aughavas, Dromahair and Gortletteragh. Parents are reminded that they can still register for the camps but certain kit sizes are running out of stock so please donât leave it till the last minute and be dissapointed.

As our competition has now concluded we would like to thank John Connolly and the Leitrim Observer for running the competition on our behalf. John Mc Keon and Sinead Brennan will be our Vhi Cul camp ambassadors for 2007 and along with other members of our County teams will visit the camps to meet the children and have a chat. A surprise visitor at last weeks camp in Aughawillan was Mayo forward Andy Moran who called in for a chat, singed jerseys, hands, knees etc, and still had time to kick a few balls over the bar.

After absolutely dominating the exchanges in the first half, Leitrim had to come from behind to claim a minimum margin win over Sligo, thanks to a late Shane Flanagan free conversion at the end of Friday evening’s cracking Ted Webb Cup game in Kilcoyne Park, Tubbercurry.
Leitrim enjoyed a seven point’s interval lead after outplaying Sligo in the opening 30 minutes. But a rejuvenated Sligo turned the game completely around in the second half after they grabbed the lead at the end of the third quarter with goals from Thomas Byrne and sub Hughie Madden.
A dream start occurred for Leitrim when James Murray crashed the ball to the Sligo net within 20 seconds of the throw in after Murray had been put through by Shane Flanagan. Over the next 12 minutes Leitrim increased their lead when Shane Flanagan added two points and Morgan Quinn hit over a point, as well.
Leitrim ‘keeper Shane Sweeney prevented a Sligo goal bound effort entering his net in the 14th minute when deflecting a pile driver out for a ’45.’
Keelan Watters opened Sligo’s account when he hit over a long range in the next minute point.
Sligo’s Hughie Madden had a goal chance denied when Leitrim ‘keeper Shane Sweeney made a top class 21st minute save. Thomas Byrne cut Leitrim’s advantage when he put over a Sligo free three minutes later.
But Leitrim hit back with points from play by Morgan Quinn, Kevin Davey and Shane Flanagan to lead by 1-6 to 0-2 at the interval. However Sligo reduced Leitrim’s lead within five minutes of the restart when Thomas Byrne tapped over a free and Hughie Madden hit a point from play.
Martin Beirne kept the pressure on Sligo when he replied with a 36th minute Leitrim point. But over the next nine minutes Sligo took control of the exchanges and grabbed the lead for the first time in the game.
This purple Sligo patch was initiated by Jason Mathews when he hit over a 41st minute point from play. After that Tomas Byrne and Hughie Madden followed up with two well-takenÓgoals, which put the Yeats County in front.
After coming through some choppy waters, James Murray steadied the Leitrim ship when he levelled matters with a 46th minute point. Leitrim regained the lead when Morgan Quinn hit over another point five minutes later.
But Sligo regrouped and went back in front again by the 56th minute after Thomas Byrne hit over two points, one from play and the other from a well hit sideline kick. Byrne’s first point in this spell came an intense bout of Sligo pressure when Leitrim ‘keeper Shane Sweeney managed to keep the ball out of his net on no less than three successive occasions, before Byrne shot over.
Morgan Quinn failed to level matters when he hit a 60th minute Leitrim free wide but Shane Flanagan made amends when he tapped over another free two minutes later. Then, as the game was heading for a dramatic climax, Flanagan secured victory for Leitrim when he converted a 64th minute free.
However Sligo had a chance to claim a share of the spoils before the finish when Jason Mathews attempted to convert a long range free. But despite finding the distance with his kick, Mathews’ shot just tailed off wide.
