This year the Leitrim GAA Supporter’s Club celebrates its 21st anniversary of its foundation in 1986 by the present Chairman of the Dublin branch Mr Eamonn Duignan. In the mean time the supporters club has been very active in fundraising for Leitrim GAA, and has in the past number of has been the main funding source for our inter county teams at all levels.

This years draw will take place on Saturday night March 31st in Cox’s Steak House Dromod, and presently all supporters of Leitrim GAA are being asked to contribute and make this draw the best to date.

The supporters club has been a major factor in Leitrim providing the very best facilities for it’s inter county players, but with rising costs this task is getting more difficult every year. Leitrim Inter county players at all levels are very committed, and put in a huge effort year in year out to represent their county, and provide many hours of entertainment for Supporters, so it is very important that supporters recognise this , and supporting this draw is one way of appreciating their efforts

For this years draw there are 10 very valuable prizes , which have all been donated by business’s locally, with the first prize € 5000.The tickets cost €40 and everybody who joins the supporters club will receive the 2007 car sticker.

The car sticker is a great method of displaying your support for the team, and as you travel to the various games whether it is league or championship all cars displaying the Leitrim GAA Supporters Club car sticker is a great show of solidarity and support for the team.

Presently Leitrim GAA are also involved in two major developments , with the construction of the 3000 seated stand at Pairc Sean due for completion in May 2007, and the two training pitches ready for the final surface to be laid also in May of this year.
With those two major projects continuing along side each other it is very obvious that Leitrim GAA are working very hard to provide facilities of the very best standard for both players and supporters.

Developments of this nature are very demanding on the finances of the board, and supporters have beenÓgreat in making donations towards the cost of these developments, but this being the 21st anniversary of the Supporters Club, Leitrim GAA would be appealing to all its followers to rally in behind the Supporters Club and once again show that Leitrim Supporters are the best supporters in the country . Leitrim 3-15
Carlow 1-7

LEITRIM turned in a sparkling second-half performance to crush the Managerless and pointless Carlow in an entertaining game in Cloone.

Leitrim edged into a decisive lead by the 27th minute, with James Glancy Scóring a goal while Ciaran Duignan, Shane Foley, Donal Brennan, Fintan McBrien and Gary McCloskey added a point each, all without reply from the visitors.

However, Brian Kelly hit back with four converted frees to leave Carlow trailing by four points, with the half-time score standing at 1-7 to 0-6.

Ciaran Duignan added two Leitrim points from frees in the opening quarter of the second half, before Kelly replied with his seventh converted free for Carlow.

Carlow were right back in contention when Mark Carpenter drove home a well-takenÓgoal in the 50th minute.

However, they failed to score for the rest of the game as Leitrim went on to shoot an unanswered two goals and six points.

Manorhamilton has become the choice venue for Leitrim Scór Finals and it was another great occasion on Saturday last with a full house and great entertainment for the audience. Five clubs shared the list of winners with Glencar/Manorhamilton, Aughnasheelin, Bornacoola getting two each and Dromahair and St Caillin’s one each.

Rince Foirne

Bornacoola, St Mary’s and Glencar/Manorhamilton were the contenders and the old reliables, Glencar/Manorhamilton, won again with Ciara Flynn, Amanda Sweeney, Nicole O’Hara, Louise Loughlin, Emmet McMorrow, Michael J Rooney, Aidan McLoughlin and Shane Connaire doing the dancing.

Amhranaíocht Aonair

Dromahair, Sean O’Heslins, Leitrim Gaels and Aughnasheelin were represented in Solo Singing and Aughnasheelin’s Sinéad Egan won the Leitrim title for the fourth time in recent years.

Ceol Uirlise

There were three groups in the music, Aughnasheelin Dromahair and Bornacoola. Dromahair’s group of Sean Conlan, Stephen McInerney, Ann Conlan, Brid Donaghue and Noel McMahon repeated their success of two years ago.

Aithriseoireacht

There were new faces in this competition with Bornacoola, Aughawillan, St Osnatts and Glencar/Manorhamilton involved and a new winner with Louise Staunton winning for Bornacoola. Thus Bornacoola retained the title won last year by Aidan Dockery.

Bailéad Ghrúpa

After their victory in the All Ireland Finals in Killarney last year, Aughnasheelin had just there of last year’s group on stage: Brendan Sammon, Sinéad Egan and Síle McNulty. This year they were joined by Fiona and Shane McNulty and they won again ahead of Bornacoola, St Mary’s and Glencar/Manorhamilton.

Trath na gCeist

One has to back as far as 1989 to find any club other than Bornacoola and Sean O’Heslins winning the Question Time. Since O’Heslins faded off the scene Bornacoola are now the strongest in the question time and they won well ahead of St Caillin’s, Glencar/Manorhamilton and St Mary’s. Bornacoola’s team was: Aidan Dockery, Liam Rabbitt and Fergal MacGiolla

Nuachleas

This was probably the most exciting competition of the night with four very original and well constructed acts from Aughnasheelin, St Caillins, Bornacoola and Dromahair. Fenagh, with their All Ireland experience from two years ago to boost them were worthy winners again. Their actors were: T P McLoughlin, Betty Doonan, Séamus Mollaghan, Shane O’Rourke, Kevin Doonan, Martin Doonan, Eileen Doonan and Maureen McLoughlin.

Rince Seit

There was good entertainment here also with Bornacoola, last years winners, Glencar/Manorhamilton, Aughnasheelin and St Caillins involved. The winners were Glencar/Manorhamilton.

Club of the Year

The award went again to Bornacoola, as they were the only club to enter in all eight competitions at the semi final stage. The award was presented by Gerry McGovern, Cathaoirleach of the Co Board to Martina Hackett, Bornacoola’s Scór Officer. The whole night was under the excellent control of Fear a Tí; Sean Mac Suibhne.

Connacht Finals

The Connacht Finals are in Ballinamore Community Centre on Saturday next starting promptly at 6.00pm. There will undoubtedly be a full house in Ballinamore so supporters are advised to be there early.

Galway ran out convincing winners in a game that Leitrim were chasing from the throw-in. Galways pace and dominance in midfield were the main factors in this rescheduled Championship encounter in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe.

From the off Galway applied the pressure and led 0-3 to 0-2 after 10 minutes. Leitrims goalie Conor Daly had his part to play with 3 excellent saves in the first half. The score at half time was 0-8 to Leitrims 0-3. While there was only 5 points between the sides the Galway team were just getting into their stride.

The Leitrim defence were under pressure for the most of the game and none more so than in the second half. After 10 minutes in with 2 more points in the bag Galway scored their first goal and this put daylight between the teams. Galways dominace took over and they scored a total of 3-12 in the second half to Leitrims 3 points.

The final whistle couldn t come soon enough for Leitrim as the final result read:
Galway 3-20 Leitrim 0-6

Galway now proceed to meet Mayo in the Semifinal next weekend.

Leitrim 3 5
Sligo 2 8

A goal by sub James McGreal just before the end gave Leitrim a share of the spoils in an exciting derby showdown with neighbours, Sligo in Ballinamore on Sunday.

A very heavy snow shower after 7 minutes in the second forced a cessation in play for a 6 minute spell when both teams were sent to their dugouts by Referee Alan Kelly.

Leitrim were very impressive in the opening quarter and grabbed a seven point’s lead, thanks largely to goals from Sean Walsh and Michael Burns.

But the Yeats County were back in contention by the interval and only trailed by the minimum after Niall Cadden and Colm Crowley found the Leitrim net in turn.

Mark Burke put over three Sligo frees from 60 yards and Liam Reidy converted a 25 metre free, to level matters by the 72 minute.

After that Burke found the range from further Sligo frees, to put his side three points in front as the final whistle approached.

The goal by sub James McGreal in extra time gave Leitrim a share of the spoils goal in extra time by Leitrim divided the spoils.

20-Mar-07 by PJ Leddy

Unbelieveable as it may seem the U21 game was called off within 1 hour of throw-in. This is the 3rd time a Leitrim teams fixture has called at an away venue, twice inÓgalway and once in Ruislip. In fact it could be argued that it is the 4th time considering this weekends fixture change for the Seniors against London.

It is believed that heavy rainfall since 10:30am this morning is the cause of the postponement.

Refixture announced for next Saturday (24th March) at 3:30pm in Ballinasloe.

17-Mar-07 by Brendan Doyle – PRO
