Divison 5 League starts this weekend

The League competition for 2007 starts this weekend with 7 games arranged for Division 5 teams. This is a particularly busy competition as 14 teams compete in what is the largest Division.

Championship draws

The championship draws for the Masonite Leitrim SFC 2007 and GWP IFC and JFC A will take place in the Bush Hotel on Monday night March 5, commencing at 9pm.

As the draws are to be featured live on Shannonside Northern Sound Radio it is imperative that all attending the draws are in attendance at no later than 8.30pm in order that the live broadcast may commence uninterrupted at 9pm sharp.

National League Defeat to Clare: An experimental Leitrim team suffered a heavy loss to Clare in Ballinasloe on Sunday afternoon last. Leitrim never got out of the blocks in the first half as Clare dominated possession and were impeccable in their shooting, aided by a strong wind. Training by 1-14 to a single point at the break, Leitrim improved considerably in the second half and outscored their opponents by 1-4 to 1-3. Again there was a long injury list but Leitrim used the unlimited substitution rule to take a look at all of the players on the panel with a total of twenty four players used during the game. With two losses to date, Leitrim’s next game in the League against Limerick in two weeks time is crucial to Division 2 survival. Limerick lost their opening three games and a win for Leitrim will ensure that Limerick are relegated and Leitrim remain safe and qualify for the quarter finals.

2006 Division 2 League: The first club action of the season will take place in Manorhamilton on Sunday next when the home side entertain St Josephs for a place in the 2006 league final where Annaduff await the winners. The game will take place at 12.30pm.

County Board Meeting: The March meeting will take place on Monday evening next at 9.00pm in Arus Padraig. An executive meeting will take place at 8.15pm.

Golf Classic: A golf classic in aid of the county board will take place on Saturday 16th June in Castledargan. Details to follow later.

Referees Course – Dates Confirmed

The referees course is rescheduled to Friday, March 9th and this date is a confirmed date by the Referees Officer, Seamus Prior. The course will be held over 3 nights.

Fitness Testing Event & Coaching Officers Meeting

Fitness Testing Workshop
A practical workshop on Fitness testing for club players will be given by John Tobin this evening in the Mayflower , Drumshanbo at 7:00pm. This course will give all coaches and Managers an in site into various methods of fitness testing for club players. Those currently completing the level one course should include this workshop as part of their course.

Coaching Meeting
All Club Coaching officers note that there is an important meeting with County Coaching officer Máirtín Mac Gabhann in the Bush Hotel, tomorrow, Wednesday Feabhra 28 at 8.30pm

National CCC meeting arranged for next Monday

The National Competitions Control Committee (CCC) next scheduled meeting is next Monday (5th March).

This will be the first opportunity to discuss the refixture of the postponed Senior game between Leitrim v London.

Under 16 League Fixtures now online

The Under 16 League Fixtures now available online for the 9, 11, 13 and 15 aside competitions. Click on the Coiste na nÓg – League Tables – link on the left hand menu.

Please note the following:

1. Top 2 teams in all Divisions play in Final

2. In Division 4 [ 9 a-side ], if there is any play-off’s they will be played on 23rd and Final will take place on 27th April.

Leitrim v London off – pitch unplayable

The referee Brian O Shea declared the Ruislip pitch unplayable at 12:15. No alternative venue was offered.

Some photos have been added to the Gallery showing the water logged pitch. Normally pictures can paint a thousand words but in this instance the water hides the sticky underfoot conditions were deplorable in many areas of the field with a definite risk to all concerned.

Division 5 – Round 1 fixtures announced

The first Club games of the 2007 seasonÓget underway on Saturday 3rd March at 4:30pm when the 14 Division 5 teams take the field in Round 1 of the League.

Leitrim Supporters Fundraiser – Thank you

Organisers of the Leitrim GAA Supporters Club fund raiser held in St. Marys GAA Club, Leixlip have issued a big thank you to all participated in a very successful event.

A word of thanks goes to those who performed on the night, Killian Prior and Tony Gallogly would like to thank Charlie McGettigan, Morris Lennon, Aughnasheelin Ballad Group, Raymond McHugh, Michael Fanning and the Sean O Heslins Novelty Act who all helped to make the event so enjoyable.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the large volume of supporters, who traveled from all over Ireland, who made the night a great success. Finally a word of thanks to St. Marys for the use of the venue.

Referees Course & FUNdamentals courses postponed

Tomorrow nights Referees Course is postponed by 1 week until March 2nd. The FUNdamentals (Ladies) course is also postponed until Saturday April 14th.
