As our players and backroom team continue to prepare for Sunday’s Allianz Football League encounter with Tipperary in Avantcard Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, Leitrim GAA wishes to acknowledge and thank the excellent and professional service provided by Advanced Medical Services at our Centre of Excellence on Wednesday night in the completion of the Rapid Testing Programme for our entire football squad of players and backroom personnel. Unfortunately, as a result of this testing, two additional players have tested positive and have now also also been ruled out of Sunday’s game. There are no close contact issues arising from these positive cases for the remainder of the panel that is available for Sunday. This brings to four the number of players that are unavailable this weekend due to Covid issues. A number of other players, who had been ruled out of last weekend’s match with Down due to close contact issues, have since been cleared to return to the panel for Sunday. We acknowledge the strenuous efforts of our medical staff and all associated with the panel in ensuring that this is the case by following all the correct procedures as laid down in line with GAA and HSE protocols.

We look forward to Sunday’s encounter as we welcome Tipperary to Avantcard Pairc Seán Mac Diarmada.

Unfortunately, due to the greater health situation that has gripped the country, Leitrim GAA has found itself having to concede our Allianz League encounter versus Down today. A number of players are awaiting test results and unavailable to travel. Other factors also prevented further players from being available, considering this greater health situation, and in this course of action, we must respect this situation. In summation, we are unable to field a team. We are living through very difficult times in an ever-increasing pandemic situation. Leitrim GAA is acutely aware of the efforts that have been made to get the inter-county season up and running. However, on this occasion, we cannot fulfill this fixture which is regrettable. We are hopeful that our situation will have resolved itself before next weekend’s fixture versus Tipperary.

There are a number of changes to TG4’s GAA schedule for the week ahead.  Below please find the updated schedule.

Sunday 11 October

2.00pm   GAA Club Gold

Gaoth Dobhair v Scotstown in the 2018 AIB Ulster Club Football Final.

Gweedore edged out Scotstown by a single point in extra-time to claim their first Ulster Club title in a pulsating encounter at Healy Park.  The Gaeltacht club become the first Donegal side to lift the Seamus McFerran Cup in 43 years.

4.20pm   GAA Club Gold

Ballyhale Shamrocks v Slaughtneil in the 2020 AIB All-Ireland Club Hurling Semi-Final.

A high scoring match which was played in Páirc Esler, Newry with Derry’s Slaughtneil taking on the Kilkenny and Leinster kingpins who were also the defending All-Ireland champions and, with seven titles, Ballyhale were this competition’s most frequent winners. Commentary by Brian Tyers.

Monday 12 October

7.30pm    Laochra Gael – Seánie McMahon

Clare’s Seánie McMahon is the subject of this programme. Between 1994 and 2006 he was regarded as one of the greatest centre backs in the country. During that period he won 2 All Ireland Titles with Clare as well as a ‘Player of the year’ award in 1995, but the road to Croke Park was full of challenges. In 1994, after his poor display against Limerick in the Munster Final, Seánie’s place on the team was under threat and again in 1995 after breaking his collarbone. He retired in 2006 as the highest scoring back ever in the hurling championship.

8.00pm    Cluichí na Bliana

Cuala v Na Piarsaigh from the 2018 AIB All-Ireland Club Hurling Final at Croke Park (Drawn match and extra time). Commentary by Mac Dara Mac Donncha and Donal O’Grady.

Following yesterday’s Government announcement and publication of the Living with Covid Plan, the return of spectators to matches has been made possible midnight September 16, albeit under certain conditions. As a result of this announcement, a maximum of 100 supporters in total may gain access to this weekend’s Vistamed Junior Football Championships quarter-finals, semi-finals, and playoff games, given the venues that these matches are taking place. The admission fee for these games will be €5 per adult and the host club will retain the gate receipts to cover ground rent and other associated costs that accrue with hosting these games. As regards the Smith Monumentals IFC Final and Connacht Gold SFC Final which are due to take place on 26-27.09.2020 and will be live-streamed by Leitrim GAA, the fact that these games will be scheduled for Avantcard Pairc Seán Mac Diarmada which has rated capacity in excess of 5,000, there will be a maximum of 200 spectators allowed entry to each of these finals. Each participating club will be allocated 100 tickets for sale to supporters at €15 each. It is a matter for the Executive Committee of each club to decide how these tickets will be allocated individually. There will be no tickets for sale for these matches from the officers of Leitrim GAA. There will be no admission to any supporter to these matches without a ticket. Player/Official passes will be made available to participating clubs in line with the numbers as were the case for the recent semi-final matches. Media passes for the finals will be made available on consideration of a written request to secretary.leitrim@gaa.ie.
