Postgraduate Research Scholarship 2024
Connacht GAA is offering a scholarship to pursue a specialised full-time one-year Masters
research degree at the University of Galway commencing in September 2024. The value of
the scholarship will fully cover the programme fees of the successful candidate plus an
allowance of €500 for research expenses. Progression to PhD studies may be a possibility.
The research may be situated within any of the Schools, Colleges or Research Centres
attached to the University of Galway. A list of applicable academic disciplines is provided in
Appendix A (subject to availability of an interested supervisor in the proposed area).
The successful candidate will be expected to produce a 10,000 word dissertation of
publishable quality. Interim deliverables will be required at various stages of the project.
Potential applicants are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) before April 30,
2024 by contacting Dr. Michael Lang (Michael.Lang@universityofgalway.ie) and/or Dr.
Cathal Cregg (cathal.cregg.connacht@gaa.ie).
The EOI document should consist of:
1) Applicant’s name and contact details (address, email, telephone).
2) Intended area of study (see Appendix 1).
3) Title of proposed research.
4) Names of possible supervisor(s), whose consent should be obtained in advance. See

5) Outline of proposed research (500-800 words): State your motivation and research
objectives, clearly explaining the potential benefit of your work to the GAA.
6) Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend for interview no later than June 7, with
provisional notification of award by June 14.
It shall be a condition of the award that the successful candidate must, by September 2024,
have completed a Level 8 or higher qualification with minimum overall standard of Honours
Grade 2.1 (GPA 3.0).
Prior experience of writing reports and research papers is highly desirable, as is having some
knowledge about Gaelic games or other comparable sports.

Major event showcasing the best of County Leitrim set to be held in London
GeneralOn Friday, March 22, Leitrim Co Council, in conjunction with the Leitrim Association London, Leitrim GAA and Leitrim LGFA will host a County Promotion business event in London.
Taking place at the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith London, the event will present County Leitrim as a dynamic location to live, work and invest in.
The main focus of the event will be to showcase what the County has to offer to a range of people in business in London with a Leitrim or Irish connection and who were interested in learning about the many opportunities County Leitrim now boasts.

The event aims to disseminate information on Leitrim from an economic perspective, including demographics, details on economic sectors, growth and employment opportunities while emphasizing the economic opportunities that the county has to offer.
It will also showcase the flagship strategic infrastructural projects planned and already delivered within the County, and the tourism developments including expansion of attractions and experience offerings.
The speakers at the event will include Michael Curry, chairperson of the Leitrim Association London and Joseph Gilhooly, Interim Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council.
Mr Colin Regan Community and Health Co-ordinator with the GAA will facilitate a panel discussion with Mr. Pat Gallagher, Gallagher Group Chairman, Ms. Norah Casey Owner and Chairwoman of Harmonia and Mr. Barry Regan, Vice President of Vistamed.
Leitrim County Council will showcase recent infrastructure and recreational investments and developments around the County with a focus on sharing what the County can offer people or companies who may want to consider the County as a place to live, work or invest.
The Council are keen to support businesses which may be considering the County as a suitable fit for re-location.
The Council is hoping to attract, in particular, members of the diaspora interested in establishing a business in Leitrim.
The event will also showcase recent investments in quality turnkey office accommodation and remote working infrastructure by Leitrim County Council.
A spokesperson said, “The County of Leitrim has seen an increase of over 9% in population at the last census, the largest increase in the Northwest.
“Having been voted the best County in which to start a business in November 2023, through a survey undertaken by procure.ie the County is certainly on an upward trajectory.
“We are also hoping to attract professionals interested in re-locating to Leitrim.
“For any persons interested in re-locating to Leitrim, the County also offers affordable housing solutions and quality childcare and education options.
“Staff will be on hand during the evening to discuss recent developments and answer any queries you may have.
